Why is SEO So Important?
SEO is very important to your website. If you want to be successful, you will figure that out quickly. SEO, or search engine optimization, will determine if you fail or succeed with your website. One should want their website to be visible to the search engine, and if you have a good SEO, the more success you will have with your site.
What SEO Does
Think of SEO as a way to get traffic to your site. If you do not have the site listed with a search engine, it will be very hard for you to get traffic to your site. And essentially you want as many people to visit your site to make the traffic grow. This is how your website will survive. If people can not find your site, they will not visit it. Many visitors only look at the first page or two of search results, so it is important that your site is ranked high to get visitors to your site.
So how do you get a search engine to find your site? The fastest way to do this is to submit the site yourself to a search engine. All you do is provide the URL. If this option does not suit you, you can also have your site listed on other sites that point to it. This will eventually get your site indexed, but note it will take longer than if you had submitted the URL yourself. Once your site is indexed, you will be able get more visitors to your site. You can submit your site to Google, Yahoo, or MSN, or submit it to a website directory. Remember though that nothing will happen overnight and you should exude some patience.
How to Rank High with SEO
Ranking high means your site will be one of the first sites a visitor sees when they type in their keywords. This can easily be done by choosing keywords or phrases that are relevant to your site. Note the relevant part. When deciding which keywords you will be using for your site, you should pick ones that are not too general. You may desire to use key phrases if you feel that a single word is too general. Think to yourself “if I were to search for something in this field, what keywords would I type in to find the site I am looking for?”
And use words that have a lower competition rate. You can do this by picking a synonym for your keywords. This will allow you to use a word or group of words that others may not pick for their sites as keywords. Most importantly, note that users will click on the page that matches the search they are looking for. This is why it is a good idea to use only words or phrases that fit your site to a T.
If you get the search engine to notice your site, and get it indexed, that is going to help your site. But remember that the higher you rank, the better traffic you will receive.
