Top 5 SEO Practices

If you are a webmaster using old tactics for search engine optimization, you clearly understand when I say that the conventional search engine optimization practices have been shaken severely by the recent Google updates namely, Panda and Penguin. In order to list down the top 5 SEO practices you need to fully understand the Google updates as well as the search engine optimization system. You might have your own list of top 5 SEO practices, but for me the top 5 SEO practices are as follows.

1.      Study Your Target Market

The basic rule, before and after the updates, is the same – to provide useful information to the readers and to maintain the quality. Most webmasters optimize for the search engines, thus compromising the content quality. But, more important is the fact that the content should be reader oriented. To provide valuable content, it is necessary to study your target market or audience in detail. If you don’t know for whom you are providing information, you can’t do it properly. Market study is a continuous process and studying the demographic data is also important. Look for things that will give you leverage.

2.      Content Creation

The next thing you would do once the market study is done with, is the content creation. I know creating content is important, but more important is creating quality content. Instead of posting low quality material on daily basis, you should try to create two or three high quality articles to be posted on weekly basis. Quality of the content is the only factor that would enhance the user experience.

Quality content is not just posting pure information, but the format is also important. Firstly, it should be free of any grammatical or spelling mistakes. Then, the content should be divided into short paragraphs. In addition to this, you must also add images and video illustrations to make your text more interesting and readable.

Keyword usage should be appropriate. Never stuff your article with keywords; instead, use them as they come natural.

3.      Organization and Website Structure

SEO is all about giving the best to the users. Your website design is one of the most important things you need to work on. The site should have a user friendly interface, a site map and easy navigation. Each page should have links to important pages, as well as to the main page. Each page should be well organized and should provide clear information.

4.      Relevant Link Building

You can have a million of inbound links, but if they are not relevant, they will not do you any good. Moreover, illegal link building practices like link farms or buying links should be strictly avoided. Building natural and relevant links with high authority sites is the only way to optimize for your website.

5.      Keyword Usage

An appropriate keyword usage is required. Think about what the audience would type in the search engines to get to your page, and optimize for those keywords.  Use no more than 1% to 2% of keyword density; rstuffing is not liked by readers as well as search engines. Put your primary keyword in the title tag as well.

These are the top 5 SEO practices which can be used without any hesitation or doubt, and they give long term results as well.
