Researching high quality keywords typically involves three steps:

Firstly, the keywords need to be relevant for your business and what it does. If your business involves repairing washing machines, you want your business to appear when people search for keywords that are related to that specific task, such as “fix washing machine” or “washing machine repair quote”. These people are actually looking for what your business is offering and this results in a high click through rate (please that click on your business name after searching in Google).

Secondly, there must be enough people actually searching for that keyword online. There would be no point in getting your website to appear in the #1 position in Google for the keyword “cheapest place to get washing machines repaired” if nobody is even searching for that! I will find keywords that people are actually looking for new or existing pages on your website.

Thirdly, I will give you keywords that are fairly low competition and will be fairly easy to rank in the top positions in Google. These keywords are often "long tail keywords". For example, lets imagine you are selling weight loss provides and services. While the keyword “lose weight” is extremely competitive (and may take years to rank), there are other keywords that can be targeted that will be much quicker to rank, for example “quickly lose weight from home” or “how to lose lots of weight without diets”, etc. These are still profitable keywords and the best thing is that after a short amount of time, you will start seeing results.
