What a clerk is

A clerk is the person behind the counter who does one defined piece of work for you and keeps the record of it. The word comes from clericus, the literate one, the scribe: the person you hand a job to, who does it properly and writes it down.

That is what this marketplace is. You bring a job, a freelancer takes it at the counter, and the record of it — the order, the delivery, the review — stays with both of you.

Why it looks like this

Three clerks stand behind a counter. Each worker is a single capsule drawn in the same round-capped line as the letters in our name, and the counter is one bar beneath them.

• It is plural on purpose. Seoclerks is not one person with one skill, it is thousands of freelancers on duty, so the mark shows a group rather than an individual.
• There is no face. A drawn face has to be somebody, and the moment it is somebody it is the wrong age, the wrong hair, the wrong decade. Capsules stay anyone, which is the point of a marketplace this size.
• No two clerks are the same height. That is deliberate: three uprights of equal height on a base are classical columns, which is a bank, not a marketplace. Three different heights read as three different people, and the tallest one gives the group a focus.
• Everything is built from the same stroke as the letters in our name, so the mark and the name look like they came from one hand.
• It still works small. At the size of a browser tab there is nothing to lose: three uprights and a line.

Light and dark

The tile always inverts against whatever is behind it. On a light page it is a blue tile with a white mark; on a dark page it is a light tile with a blue mark. It is never light on light or dark on dark.

Using the mark

Keep clear space around it equal to the width of one clerk, do not recolour it outside our blues, do not add a shadow or an outline, and do not stretch it. If you need the name as well, use the full logo from our promotional page.
