    Can you create a high quality forum on a free host?

    Is it possible to create a high quality forum on a free host that will last for many years? Or, is this only available for someone willing to pay for hosting/domain?

    I've seen many busy fan based forums online that were created on a free forum host. The determining factor is not where your forum is hosted by how dedicated you are to making the forum grow.

    The only thing that matters with a forum is the community, not where it's hosted or even what it looks like. Though once you have a good community of loyal members posting, you can tweak the theme and look of the site for the members' benefit.

    I agree with you Beverly on this one. the community is the most important thing that you have, no matter what else you all have or do not have.

    Yes, just don't be deterred from starting a forum even if you can't afford monthly hosting. You could always just pay the $10 a year for domain name and that would save about $60 a year for hosting. Whatever it takes to get your forum going is what you need to do. Once your community is built and you can afford hosting,then start the new forum on paid hosting and ask all your members to join there and even import your discussions from the free forum if you can do so.

    When my forum first started, this is what I did. I purchased the domain name and used the ads-free hosting option from my host company. And, then i was able to get my forum off the ground before making a decision to go with paid hosting. There were lots of things to get done then, like start the forum, get members, put up posts etc.

    Once i was sure the forum would work as I wanted, then I made the small monthly investment into hosting.

    As long as you love your community and care about it's health, it won't matter if the forum is on a free host or paid host. You can still succeed and earn money either way.

    I don't think you can create a quality forum or blog or website with free hosting. Free hosting has many limitations and also many problems. One of the problems with free hosting is uptime. Second is the security of your website, third is having unwanted ads.

    I think there is no problem with a free host because a high quality forum is achieved not by the host. However, when the privilege expires, the forum is left with no hosting facility. I think I had been to a forum like that. When it vanished into thin air, I forgot all about it until I received an email that says the forum is up and running again. The reason for the absence is the move to another host provider. Maybe it was a free forum at first and when the forum got a lot of activities, the owner decided to get a paid hosting.
