    Which contests are good for forums?

    What type of contests will stimulate the most amount of new discussions. What contests have you used and prizes offered?

    My contests are only for new content. I don't reward members for just making responses as I need new articles and blog entries and new discussions most.

    Best avatar for Halloween was a popular contest on our forum last year. We had a lot of fun there too. Everyone dressed up as favorite character and posted photo as avatar. We picked the winner. There was no big prize but it was a success.

    This idea could be adapted for a Christmas related contest too. Or, really any holiday including Valentines day.

    Some good ones for a forum are Posting Competition, Referral Competition, Graphic Competition, and even just a random number drawing one.

    You could have a competition for best article or tutorial submitted for a category and offer a nice prize for the winner. This idea would draw some attention from established and new members alike.

    There was one forum with a contest for the best thread. The winner is the one that gets the most comments. I did not find it interesting because for sure the member with the most number of friends will win. In one local forum, I joined a contest for the funniest anecdote. It should be a true story. I did not win but it's worth joining because I know that many members appreciated my anecdote.
