It can be but I would not recommend it unless you own a million dollar forum whole can blow money on a form of advertisement that cannot prove any results what so ever.

On the contrary radio advertising is not really expensive and it depends on the network and the program. There are big network with not so popular programs that they have a lower pricing for the advertisements. For small radio networks you can target the block timer programs because they accept advertising for peanuts and sometimes even for free. You just have to be resourceful in searching.

Here's one example where a local radio ad might produce good traffic for your forum. For instance, let's say you have a local Dallas, Texas computer repair shop and a forum where you answer questions from people in the local area (and nationwide) about various computer repair related issues. You could easily include a link to your forum in your local radio ad. Such as 'visit our forum to post your tech help questions and get help from the tech help gurus at ABC Computer Repair of Dallas'. This would give your customers yet another way to make contact with your local business in a low pressure way that could easily convince them to use your services.

That's actually a great example, thank you!

We have a family friend who hosts a radio program. He is a novelty singer who was popular in the 1980s and his radio program is running for 20 years now. That means he’s got a good number of listeners. Advertising in that program will surely help particularly if your business caters most to the locality. What’s good in some radio programs is that they don’t charge a fee. A token or product samples would be enough for them. That’s why those kind of radio programs are the favorite promotional venue of producers of indie movies.

I believe if one forum caters for the locals then advertising on the radio is an added advantage because listeners would log into the site to see what going on there and of course that's a whole lot of traffic coming in.So yes Radio ads can help a local forum.
