Do you get too many Facebook friend requests?

And, how do you determine what is a real friend on Facebook and just someone looking to spam you with updates?

Try to check which of your mutual friends are and if they seem to be what they seem then you know what to do, you may also unfried those mutual friend you have. But then if you are one of those spammers, approved everyone. I also approve anyone who send friend request to me, they could give hits to my site. Remember every visitor counts lol.

I assume its your personal account so if you don't know them then don't approve.

I am now very careful in accepting new friends that I don’t know personally. When there is a mutual friend and it seems that the person who sent a friend request is commenting on my posts then I would ask the mutual friend about him. There was a time that I accepted a request with a mutual friend that I assumed was for real until the mutual friend told me that he didn’t really know the person. Eventually the new friend just wanted to chat and posting is not in his agenda.

I only have a few people in my connection that have their own sites so I don't have to worry on useless and annoying links whenever they update a site. And I only add people whom I know from forums and in real life.

Currently have hundreds of unconfirmed friend requests...

I think if a person know you personally then you can determine about his intentions otherwise its quite hard to predict.

I don't get many friend requests, just a few every week and only from people that are friends of friends. If I got too many friend requests, I would be very suspicious, indeed.

Real friends are real on Facebook and off Facebook. If you only know that person on Facebook can you really call them a friend? Then again, some real life friends are fairly treacherous.

And, how do you deal with all those friend requests? I'm surprised that Facebook would allow people to spam you with so many requests.

The most better way to determine a real friend on Facebook is by checking the number of friends such person has got before sending you a friend request. Also, checking the number of pictures he/she has uploaded is another way to check how active they have been on the network.

I never accept a friend request at once unless I really know the person who is requesting. Every month, I get to check the list of friend request but I rarely accept a request from a person I do not know maybe unless that request has several mutual friends that I can trust. My Facebook account is mainly for connecting to my circle and collecting new friends in social media is not my cup of tea. The number of friend requests I currently have is more than 100.
