    Dont over optimize your anchor text. Try to have at least 80% do-follow links and only 20% or less no-follow.

    I know that the default setting of a web page is do-follow that whatever you post on that web page will be a do-follow which is visible to the search engine crawlers. The no-follow makes the post invisible to the search engine crawlers that when someone would post a backlink on that web page it will not be seen by the crawler and therefore will not be much effective as a backlink. What is your purpose for having a no-follow link?

    Here are some of the things that I consider while link building
    Build links from reputed sites and the sites that have high page rank
    Build links from the sites that are related to your niche.
    Instead of quantities, always focus on the quality of links you are building.
    Always build links with do follow links.

    Thank you for the information. This is added knowledge for me. I also have read in another discussion that you opt for quality with the backlinks instead of quantity. That means posting your backlinks on popular website will give you more chances of getting a hit instead of spreading too many backlinks on any website. Be choosy with the blog or forum that you go to for prospecting a backlink posting.

    Backlinks should always come from the sites that are ranked higher than your website. Backlinks are important for search engine ranking. Building backlinks is off page SEO.
    Web 2.0 sites are good platforms to build backlinks.
    While building backlinks you should always choose related content. For example, if you want to backlink your gaming website, you should build backlink from a gaming site, if you generate backlink to your health website from a gaming website, it will not help your website.
