Google+ seems more like a blog than a social network. Even when someone is simply posting on their own personal profile, rather than a Google+ business page, the posts are more indepth than what you would find on Facebook. And, these posts are usually blog length. There seems to be less family socialization on Google+ and more professionals who are using the site to blog their opinions and ideas.

And, does this ranking help you get more traffic from Google? Or, is it just prestigious?

Yes, Google makes it faster for your blog posts to be indexed or crawled. If you want to start networking, you should start with Google. Make use of all these major social networks that will give your content exposures.

With Google+ you can create a profile and add your website details in the /About Me area.
You can also share all your sites posts on your /posts page.

With Google+ you can create a Google+ community. Then invite people to join it.
You can then promote that on other Google+ communities.

Google+ is just like another social media site, you can share your blog posts on your Google+ page. You should use google+ plugin to allow users to comment on your blog through their google account so that your link appears on their page too when they comment,

I don't think it is a good way to professional blogging by itself. However now a days blogger uses Google + to share there things. then they rank well.

Google+ has a huge user base. Wouldn’t it be perfect for blogging?
Lately, I have been hearing a lot of noise about using Google+ for blogging. I love Google+. It’s big, and it’s growing rapidly. It’s shaping up to be a serious online contender that moves beyond just another social network, but blogging? Is this really a good idea?
Probably not.
Blogging is something that I care about deeply. It is how we’ve built our business and audience, and it is something that we teach others to do. The power of content isn’t lost on me, and that is precisely why the idea of blogging on a social network brings such a cause for concern.

That may be the big difference of Google+ with Facebook. The posts are more like blogs than simple posts that you see in Facebook. And when you say there is depth, to me it appears like a serious or formal post. I agree that Google+ is more for the professional sector. However, Facebook is still more popular because it is universal in theme and anyone has the capability to create an account.
