Could one simple exclamation point increase your sales with 200%?

I recently read an article about an exclamation point ( ! ) and the insane results it could bring..

Let me tell you about this:
If you have a exclamation point after a headline ( ! ) in your sales page, we all know it will stand out a bit and make the sentence a bit "stronger". But, if you make that exclamation point into a graphic instead. So it's a .jpeg/.png image, some claims this to increase the sales with 200%.

Make the exclamation point graphic a html link, to where if people click the exclamation point graphic, it will send them off to get a huge discount.

Send this "secret" to your email list.

I have seen some a few marketers doing things like this, and it seems like it's working, but I don't have any experience doing this myself.. What's your thoughts on this?

Best Regards,

I've used techniques on my PPC campaigns in order to increase my CTR Could one simple exclamation point increase your sales with 200%?

I use numbers and symbols in my campaigns and it's shown a higher CTR than if I just use text.

Symbols:
The main symbols I'll use are !, $, -, | or ?
Using these strategically will draw attention to your listing because it will slightly stand out than the other listings around it. The reason it increases your click through rate is because it will break up the text and pull the attention to your listing so that your viewers can read it. Adding the exclamation point will make it seem like you're yelling at the user, so you'll need to use it strategically and make it seem like there's urgency with your product or service. The dollar sign will bring people in because everyone likes money and they'll be intrigued by what the price is. use the hyphen if you're breaking up a domain from the text like "example.com - this is awesome" and the same goes for the strait line |

Numbers:
By adding a number to your text, listing, titles, etc. you will notice a bigger click through rate and high conversions. It helps because people will see the numbers and get pulled in because it stands out from the text. Whether it be a phone number or the price of the product, it will stand out and people will be drawn to it. When adding a price, be sure to add the dollar $ign $ymbol so people automatically know it's a price. The only downside of adding a dollar sign to a PPC campaign is that not everyone uses the same currency as you, so use it only when targeting your country of origin Could one simple exclamation point increase your sales with 200%?

Interesting. I actually never tracked my campaigns for this purpose when i am using symbols like this because i never thought it is driving so much attention by readers. But now when i check my Google analytics i can note some positive differences and more activities on posts with this symbols. So i will give more attention to using this symbols in future to test it further. Every advice is welcome and most of us working on all this little and big things to boost our search engine and social media networks exposure, so this is just one step forward.

Well it is certainly worth a try isn't it?

It does seem like it may be a little far fetched that it can increase sales by 200% though, but if it is possible I would be happy to give it a go!

Hey Lynne,
It's definitely worth a shot, but I suppose the 200% increased sale statistics are from someone who had a LARGE email list.. I'm having a hard time believing it would be enough by just doing something simple like this, and get that results. It must be because of the size of the email list and not because of the exclamation point..

I do understand that one can get these results by having a large list and email all of them this "secret". But I can't see how anyone else would be able to figure this out.

Yes I agree. I don't have a huge list at all. I have a few hundred subscribers for one website, and then about 1500 for my mommy blog. I need to work on growing my lists.

That's 1500 + "a few hundred" subscribers, and you don't sell products..? Wow. Good for you! Could one simple exclamation point increase your sales with 200%?

I bet most people would try to send them a lot of various offers in attempts to benefit from them in more ways than just have them on a list, but I do think you're on to something here. Build your list and make it huge before sending out any offers at all.. I suppose that's what you'll be doing later on?

There is nothing to lose to try it of course. It might help because it does show a certain amount of enthusiasm to have it end with an exclamation, and while reading it it also makes you share that feeling, and subtly lead to a call to action. Twice as much sales may be great, but as pointed out above it is a bit too much I guess to achieve that much with such a small effort. It would depend on the number of people who are exposed to it of course, but no matter how many sales you get, any extra ones are surely welcome.

I agree with you. Any extra sales would be great, but the thing is, that when I heard about this, it was explained in such a way that you just couldn't think differently. You just had to believe what they where talking about.. But now, after a few days, I seriously doubt this. And I believe something like this would depend solely on the list you have.

Why would a graphic exclamation point be different from a regular one ( ! )? And why on earth would it bring 200% increased sales..? I just can't get it.. Even though I did believed everything I heard about it, when I heard about this the first time.

Thanks for sharing this hitmeasap. I have never ever heard or thought about this but it kinds of make sense because you are making your text more eye catching by adding an exclamation mark. I am going to try this and I will let you guys know the results.
