Why most buyers act like a boss instead of a friend?

After 7-8 years working as a freelancer, I have faced many buyers. Some were very friendly and very communicative, whereas others were really bossy. And some of them act as like they do not only purchased service but also they purchased freelancer too. I had many strict buyers who react as if they are a boss instead of friends.

So- Do you think friendly communication between both is the best way to get the best service from a seller instead of acting like a boss?

And what intend really working in buyer mind to act such a bossy?

I also got several buyers who were bossy and quite rude. Unfortunately even though I prefer the ones who were always friendly and polite, it is quite normal to have buyers act as if they were the boss, and as a responsible seller you need to handle them as politely as any other buyer of yours. They act like this most probably because they are the ones who are paying, and so they possibly think that if they act that way they are going to make a seller deliver a better job. I agree that it is better to be friendly instead of making a seller feel uncomfortable.

Hi EliteWriter thanks for your reply. yes I completely agree with you. All are not same. Some are rude and some are polite and very friendly. I do not care even rude, but some of misbehave too with seller. I faced many times. And I feel like as slave. They try to use as they can. Some buy service for $1 as example. But shows as like they purchase a freelancer not only service. That is very unfortunate. I know that is not huge and maximum are polite and communicative. And I know as a good freelancer, you need to polite for any situation.

I think it human nature to always behave rude especially if they know they're on a more advantage position, in this case they're the ones paying you and not the other way round.

The best way to handle such situation Is to ignore them and pretend like you didn't notice the aggressiveness or any bad comment and just focus on doing the job for your cash.

yea man i agree elite writer you do have a valid point you know i have had to deal with buyers that were really difficult too work with some people were straight up rude and made it seem as if they were trying to take advantage , and i agree they are paying you know, always deliver with good composure , there some times is not really anything you could do , you know some times it is part of the job there is no way of avoiding these kinds of situations it comes with the work , but it is always in control how you handle things on your end

If one of my buyers were rude to me, not only would I cancel their order, but I would cancel all future orders from this specific buyer. I'm not freelancing to have clients speak rudely to me. That is not good business. I'm usually always polite unless a "client" tries to scam me or gives wrong negative feedback.

I am by nature an impatient person. So believe me when I say that I have had to force myself to be patient with certain buyers. Even when they are somewhat rude I try to keep calm and be cool. There was a time when a particular buyer was really nasty and for no reason I could imagine he even sweared etc. That was something I could not accept. Ultimately I won the battle by still keeping calm and answering back quite politely, and then I had support step in to figure out by reporting him.

It was most likely a reseller. Resellers are very impatient because they resell the services elsewhere and have really low time durations. So they will harass you until you complete the order. It's really rude for anyone to be unprofessional when you're taking your time to fulfill an order, or a slew of orders.

People need to understand that freelancers such as ourselves have many clients, and many orders to complete within sometimes impossible deadlines. We strive for excellent customer service with hopes of the client reordering our services. So if anyone is waiting for an order, please be patient with your seller.

Hi Everett thanks for your reply. And good to know as you mentioned as reseller. It is really true. Most of the reseller moving here and there and purchasing service from several marketplace and try to pressurize on seller to make deliver order very quickly. And thanks for understand about what freelancer doing. Yes! most of the freelancer are very busy and they has ton of order like reseller. And I think both should be understand value of time and work. Sometimes order may delay due to various reason. But, do not need to show up as bossy to seller. Rather friendly communication may more help to get proper work from seller.

Some people just don't know how to deal with other people, whether it is in business or any other way. I've had people ask me for directions in such a way that I was tempted to give them to middle finger Why most buyers act like a boss instead of a friend?

I think that although things maybe be dealt with in a friendly way, they should always be dealt with in a professional manner. If buyers deal with you in a way that is bossy, rude or offensive just stay professional and polite anyway. It takes all types of people and not everyone will be nice and respectful.

Hi Lynne thanks for your response. yes! I do agree with you. As a professional freelancer I always follow rules of what is best for handling situation and I never act such rudely. I always keep silent and polite myself to buyer. And I know that he paid me. But, do not forget he paid for service and he never able to purchase you. I know for any individual service that buyer of my boss. But, when you will see, somebody act like as bossy and use some strict and rude word or you feel that he is scolding, you never take it easily.

so, I think friendly behavior between both may extract more excellent work from seller.

Yeah, hate that kind of buyers. They bought a 10 dollar service and they essentially think to themselves I just bought myself a sort of slave. They get all bossy and very demanding, asking for extra things you never agreed on. I usually do my best to satisfy them and after that I never accept orders from them again.
No point in having bad experiences for 10 bucks from people that don't understand they're buying a service not a worker.

Well that is the life of a freelancer. Good or bad, this is that you are your own boss and you can decide to accept or reject a client if you so choose to. You don't have to take crap of anybody. You might think you're losing money by letting go of trouble clients, but in reality you are opening up the door to make way for more appreciative worthwhile clients.

I agree with you on this multimastery. I have had so many clients who were impossible. You explain things to them, you remain as polite as can be, you retain your patience even though you feel like you are going to explode.... believe me I have been through it all. After several years and numerous experiences I have come to the conclusion that it is better to avoid these people from the very start and deal with others who are friendly and straightforward and polite. Otherwise you end up feeling frustrated and exasperated, and this will affect your working days until you settle their orders.

I usually lay down the law right in the beginning and let them know what is going to happen and when it will be happening.

I do deal with the bossy client here and there, but I let them know that we know what we're doing and they're safe with us. I think a lot of clients who decide to get bossy are like that because they don't know any better or they've been like that with their clients for so long that it spills over to everyone they talk to, which is sad.

I've dropped a client before because they kept trying to tell me how to do my job. I literaly said "I know what I'm doing, that's why you gladly signed a contract with us. Don't worry about anything with your rankings because we've been doing this since 2003" he then responded with a pretty awful email but I'll give you the PG version lol. He said "If you and your not so awesome team knew what the heck they were doing, I'd have bunch of flipping traffic by now!" And this was after just 2 weeks of work on an extremely difficult niche.

It's sad to see this, but some people don't know how to talk to others.

This is the part that I've been worried about. I mean that someone is a buyer and is paying for a job shouldn't make he/she think everything is fine. The seller is providing his/her services for goodness sake and should be respected as well.

Whenever I get bossy and sometimes impolite clients, depending on the deal I would either drop the account instantly more so if the pay is pretty low. But in cases when the pay is well worth it, I would do my job and get paid.

That bossy attitude of a buyer may have originated from the saying that the customer is always right. It gives the buyer a sense of importance that he is needed by the business so he can act in any way he wants. However, it also depends on the character and personality of the buyer because I have encountered buyers with good manners and they don’t abuse the business. But with the rude buyers, I really don’t care much about them. I give them a stance like take it or leave it.
