What's the Preferred Social Network for Public Figures, and Why?

Just pondering, here..

Public figures have different requirements from social networks than businesses and general users.

I think that Twitter might be preferred over Facebook by most celebrities. It's still a great promotional network to get the word out about what you're doing, but it's not as... two-way with the public, I guess you could say. Now I think Instagram may be becoming preferred over Twitter for much the same reason.

Celebs are simply not able to respond to everyone who approaches them. Imagine getting 10000 tweets per day from fans, asking random questions, requesting favors, trying to connect. It's not possible to keep up with fans the way that businesses keep up with customers.

Twitter allows for quick "liking" and retweeting, both easy and quick ways to acknowledge fans, all in a stream, pretty much in bulk - not in separate page posts that may be several paragraphs long asking five questions each..

How creepy can you get in 144 characters or less? That's not a challenge, by the way. Haha.. My point is, It's easier to be a weirdo on Facebook. You can rant and rave and take as much space as you'd like, interact with other fans in comment threads, form a mob, etc.. It gets bizarre. Less so on Twitter.. and much less so on Instagram.

On Instagram, you're not expected to respond to comments or posts at all. Facebook, though... Boy, people post on someone's timeline, and they usually expect an answer. I've seen people get SO upset about not getting a response from their favorite singer. It's crazy. It happens less on Twitter, and even less on IG, from what I've seen.

Also, reporting threats, imposters and stalkers on Facebook is pretty much a waste of time. They really don't put effort into it, and it takes forever.. Twitter is really vigilant about it, though. They are all over it. Not sure about IG.

Enter Snapchat. I'm not sure about this one, honestly.. If someone's trying to promote themselves, their music, their tour dates, their new film.. They want that info to STICK.. The disposable posts platform.. I'm not sure that's what public figures want. Seems like more of a personal-use app. I don't know, though..

I'd really love to hear your thoughts on this. Please discuss!! What

I think I would go with Twitter. Seems like a lot of celebrities are on Twitter. Have you seen the "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets" videos posted on Youtube? Even people you didn't know that are celebrities have a twitter account. Most celebrities now try to be social, and some don't like to be in that spotlight, and don't post on their social profiles themselves. They hire people to post on the accounts for them. So without a doubt I would say that Twitter is the preferred social network. Plus, you are always hearing about celebrity drama via Twitter, so you know a lot goes down on Twitter.

when it comes to public figures and celebrities, then they need and mostly they do use all or most social networks because they want to get connected to as many as possible people around world and get as much popular as possible. I am not sure which social media works best for them as i can see them all over the place, but i also thing that they hire some very experienced social media marketers to do all this promotions and postings for them. Specially politicians and well known celebrities. While they personally say hello just occasionally i guess, to give it a boost little bit

I don't think there is a "preferred" social media they use. More than likely someone in their team posts for the. Even Donald Trump, the first presidential candidate candidate to use Twitter for putting out his messages...he doesn't post to those.

In his parting remarks to Cleveland on Friday morning, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump invited his social media manager to the stage. He introduced Dan Scavino as a “A Facebook, Twitter junkie,” who knows the platforms like nobody else. Scavino greeted his boss as “President Trump.”

“Twitter last night, exploded. Facebook exploded. Instagram exploded,” he told a crowd of Trump’s supporters. By the end of the convention, Trump’s Facebook account had gained close to 500,000 followers. And, he said, “Mr. Trump hit 10 million followers on Twitter. 10 million.”

That reach, Scavino proudly said, allows the campaign to bypass the traditional media if desired. “If things aren’t necessarily working out with CNN,” Scavino said, “We put it on his platforms and get more views.”

Define Celebrities. I think, it may depend a lot on the type of public figure.
For example, Mark Zuckerberg I would be surprised to have him using anything but Facebook.
  • Politicians go well with Twitter.
  • Models, singers and movie stars will do much better on Instagram.
  • Top CEOs and other professionals will go on LinkedIn.
  • Tabloid type "celebrities" should use Snapchat.

At least that's the way I see thinks.

We had a short stint in campaigning for a senatorial candidate during the 2013 elections. Created were a Twitter and a Facebook account. At first, Twitter was getting a good feedback but after a month, the Facebook account is like a galloping horse that is pulling away from the Twitter account. I guess Facebook is more attractive and the advantage is the 2 billion users of Facebook compared to less than a billion Twitters users. So it is Facebook that is the most popular for celebrities and public figures to be in constant contact with the people.

I am on social media to promote my business and generate sales. Public figures are on social media to reach people, their primary motive of reaching people is to provide information about themselves. Therefore, they have to use social media that has highest numbers of active users. facebook, twitter and instagram are the most preferred social networks for the public figures.
