Email Marketing - How Often Should I Send Emails?

I am interested to know from seasoned email marketers - is there an optimal frequency for sending emails?

I know that I personally don't like receiving a lot of emails from anyone. I like receiving maybe a weekly or monthly email that has something I am very interested in.

How often do you send emails to your subscribers? Do you find that you have an optimal frequency that increases the open rate of your newsletters or maybe even conversion rates?

And at what stage did you find a lot of unsubscribes happening?

Normally when I'm doing something like this I'll have them scheduled to be sent out so that I don't have to do it manually. Because you know, who has time for manual work Email Marketing - How Often Should I Send Emails?

Anyway, when I get a new subscriber I will have my system send them a welcome email like most of us do. After the welcome email they'll get another follow up email the next day which is like a follow up asking them how they like the site. This email really doesn't do anything but remind them that they signed up to my website lol Email Marketing - How Often Should I Send Emails? They will usually come back or they will unsubscribe, but good riddance! I didn't want them anyway! :'( lol the third email I'll send out 5 days after they registered just letting them know about all the sweet features of the website just in case they missed something. This email again pulls people back in or a few of them unsubscribe. Now after the 1st, 2nd and 5th day I'll have the emails scheduled to go out weekly. So after the 5th day they're signed up, they'll get an email every 7 days until they unsubscribe or I forget to keep adding emails into my queue lol.

So this is what my emailing schedule looks like:
Day 1: Welcome email
Day 2: "Tanks Again" email which is a reminder they signed up.
Day 5: A "Sweet Features" email to bring them back in
Day 12: A newsletter type email talking bout general stuff regarding my website
Every 7 days later: General emails talking about the website.

Sometimes I'll throw an email in there if we do a big update or have a free giveaway coming up, but those aren't too often.

Thanks Razzy, I think I've got mine set about the same, it is every 5 - 7 days or thereabouts but I have to add more emails into my newsletter series! This has been on my to do list for a long time.

I totally agree with you, when someone unsubscribes then it is good riddance, It is not like a really good email autoresponder is free so every subscriber that doesn't want to read my content is costing me money, so yeah best they unsubscribe Email Marketing - How Often Should I Send Emails?

I send a first "welcome email" thanks for subscribing, bla bla. And after this first email I usually do it one per week or when I have something really important to share that I think it's worth sending an email about. My advice: do it natural, don't rush things and don't force stuff on your subscribers, otherwise you'll just become spammy. Try to think as a "subscriber" how often would you like to get that information?

Thanks Cristian, yes very good advice and that is how I did it really. I heard so many people saying you must send an email every single day and I just thought that is awful. Never mind that, I can't come up with something to send every single day! So my newsletters won't be quality if I do that!

I don't do email marketing much because I don't have a big email list. My list has just about 20o subscribers. In order to benefit from email marketing, you need to have genuine subscribers. By genuine, I mean the people who voluntarily subscribed to your products, services or blog. I think sending emails to your subscribers once a week is the most appropriate email marketing tactics. I am against sending too many emails. If you are sending too many emails, you are spamming your subscribers' inbox.

The frequency of sending emails depends on the type of emails. For a subscription of newsletter, it has a regular frequency like weekly or even twice a week. Since the receivers are subscribers, there is no problem with the frequency. But for a business email that is like prospecting, I guess it should be just once every 2 weeks so the receiver will not think you are spamming. And your emails should be creative to be very interesting to the receiver. Take note of the term very interesting. It should be otherwise to the spam folder your email goes.
