What are some of the quickest ways to generate traffic with today?

Hi all, there are many many guides and things out there that you can find on this, on generating traffic to your website quickly. But I don't think we've ever had this as an actual discussion on here before now? So I know a few myself off the top of my head, and if I had to, I would be able to make a list. But I thought I'd pose this as a question here to see what other peoples ways and methods are of going about this.

Basically, what are some of the quickest ways of generating traffic to your website today? I'm talking about both paid and free ways but preferably free ways as I'm on a shoe-string budget! What are some of the quickest ways to generate traffic with today?

There are 4 ways I know of and use which are;

  1. Posting to related Facebook groups and communities.
  2. Posting to related Google+ communities.
  3. Posting on related forums to your niche.
  4. Posting comments on high traffic blogs.

What other ways are there (that you use/used) to generate traffic quickly?

Let's try and create a list of many different (real working) ways of doing so!

Thanks!

Even though I'm aware of the ones you've mentioned, I'll definitely enjoy other replies and suggestions, especially now when I've decided to start a blog.. Well, I will probably start a blog.. It's not set in stone yet, even though I'm eager to start something new.. - Traffic is all that matters in the end, right? - So make sure to bring me tons of suggestions! Usually when I make a website, I like to post on forums in my niche to get that traffic, and also a good backlink. Basically, what I would do is go to Google and type in (for instance) "Money making forum", or "earn money forum". I would then register, reach a post count (if necessary) and then add my link to my signature (if the forum allows it) and create a topic. This is mostly the first thing I do, as it helps with SEO, and plus you get the extra traffic. So I definitely recommend this method.

However, you must first gain some forum rank, or credibility because forum regulars will probably see your posts as spam, and may report them and then they will be removed, and you do not want this. So if you are going to go with this method, make sure you are somewhat not a newbie when attempting to gain backlinks on the forum you're posting on, otherwise you will be wasting your time.
Posting comments on high traffic blogs.

I have not had much luck with this in the past. Usually the blogs I find have moderated comments, meaning the blog owner will have to approve them.. manually. Sometimes the blog owner approves, and sometimes they do not. Also, sometimes when they approve your comment they remove your link.. so this is usually a hit or miss when trying to get traffic.

Some quick ways to get traffic are:
  • Traffic Exchanges
  • Social Exchanges (use facebook post, and twitter tweet/retweet sections)

Yes Everett I have to admit that I usually just bin comments with links, since most of these are so spammy and done so badly.

Then if the comment is really good I will most likely remove the link and publish the comment...

However the big problem I have here is that the majority of people that try and leave a link on my websites leave spammy comments and links, or they leave a good comment with an affiliate link... or the link is not 100% related to the topic.

If someone leaves a really good comment on my website with a link relevant to the topic, that is not an affiliate link and the website it is linking to is good quality I will publish the link too.

However the amount of times I have approved a blog comment with a link I can honestly count on one hand!

Adwords, just have an adwords campaign if you need traffic and have something to sell. If you don't have a conversion based website or online store, well yeah, social networks can be a source of traffic but 99% of times they aren't, at least not for the average Joe who struggles with his new website.

A quick cool way of getting traffic is to publish your link (aka spam) on alternative active communities. I've managed to pull some crazy traffic from Reddit and 4chan as well as other similar websites. These sites have very active users but you need to have the niche for them, it won't work with everything under the sun.

These are all great free ways to generate traffic. These require no money at all just a little time and dedication. The thing i would add is to build your own following start with your friends ask them to suggest you as a friend to others on Facebook. Having people that pay attention to you on a daily basis is just as important as having people to blast new important information from time to time. Asking people to share your posts or status actually works and you would be surprised to see how many people will actually share your content if it relates to them. I use twitter to generate some traffic and it works! If i need direct targeted leads i will use email marketing i always get interactions and emails back so it works! The best part about your suggestions and mines is that it cost ZERO money to do.

Those tips are quite valid but then again, you can post those topics and nobody still click on it.I think we should do more on the areas of catchy titles and quality contents.

My take on the discussion is posting on Facebook. Have you seen posts that were shared which shows a picture of a sick person with a big caption that says 1 like = prayer for me. So many friends of mine are sharing those nonsense. What if you make a post similar to that but instead of 1 like = prayer, you can caption it with 1 click on the link = thank you. Maybe your connections in Facebook will be willing to help you with a click to the link that you specified.
