Why selling something online is better than selling at a trade show

Selling something online is now becoming the better way of making sales compared to selling at a trade show. Don't get me wrong, trade shows are a great way to make money with your own products, but they're limited compared to online sales. I've actually done both and I much more prefer selling online for a few simple reasons.

Why selling online is better than trade shows

1) Broader Reach
When you're selling online you definitely have a broader reach to your potential customer since most people at trade shows are from a 20 to 30 mile radius from where it's being held. When you're selling online you can target your area, but the beauty of selling online is that you can target the entire world if you want. How many trade shows do you think you'd have to go to in order to get your product in front of the entire world?

Having your items online lets people come to you and make a purchase from the comfort of their own home. Online sales are on the rise for the last 10 years and show no signs of slowing down, so get your items online and you may not have to go to trade shows anymore Why selling something online is better than selling at a trade show

2) Streamlined
Selling online is much more streamlined and easier to do since you don't have to travel at all. You can sit at home while setting up your website and adding images of your products. You can set everything up once and let it run unlike a trade show where you have to drive all of your tables and product to the location, set it up and handle sales for the time the show is going on then break everything down and go home. When the trade show is over you are technically done working for the day, which is what I'll go over next Why selling something online is better than selling at a trade show

3) Always Selling
Since you have a website up and running you'll technically always be selling your products. You could be sleeping and make a sale at 4am from someone who can't fall asleep due to the fact they have some product like yours running through their head. They open up their phone and make a purchase from you and when you wake up you have $XX.XX in your bank account. You then ship out your item or do the work that was agreed upon and everyone is happy Why selling something online is better than selling at a trade show

If you set up your website well then you can even get upsales without having to talk to anyone, which is what we're all targeting, more money Why selling something online is better than selling at a trade show Think of your website as a business card, make it look nice and have the content written in a way that will convince people to sign up and you won't have to talk to anyone. And this is where #4 comes into play Why selling something online is better than selling at a trade show

4) No face to face
If you're like me, you're not the best at selling something when you're face to face with someone lol. I've been to a few trade shows and after the first one I realized that my role was to help with the set up and break down of everything and the transportation. I can type up a storm and make everything convincing, but talking to people who aren't interested yet in what I have is tough for me. Now if someone wants to talk about signing up for my SEO services I can talk for days, but that's not too often since my websites are set up with detailed Q&A's just to prevent me from having to talk on the phone lmao Why selling something online is better than selling at a trade show

Selling online, if you set it up right, will allow you to not have to talk to your clients. Now you'll have to talk to some of them because there are a few out there that want to have a conversation prior to making a purchase, but that's ok. The bright side of this is that you can use the conversation as more content to your Q&A in order to avoid more phone calls in the future Why selling something online is better than selling at a trade show

5) Advertising
When it comes to advertising, it's tougher to purchase billboard and TV ads since they are always much more expensive. One billboard company I talked to in the past wanted $8,000 for a year of advertising and it wasn't even on a highway. The problem with billboard advertising is that people are becoming blind to them similar to how they don't see banners on websites even without ad blockers.

Advertising online is pretty easy since there are platforms like Adwords and Bing Ads that allow you to set up an ad once and let it run for however long you want. You can literally set it and forget it, but I don't recommend that because you always want to monitor your ad just in case you're spending too much money.

In Conclusion:
I prefer to sell online because I can sit at home and make more money, but there are people who don't want to sell online and would rather go to trade shows. I can set up a website for a single product in one day and have all the advertising platforms up and running that night, but at a trade show you're set to specific times to set up and sell Why selling something online is better than selling at a trade show It's really up to you which you prefer, you can actually do both if you want Why selling something online is better than selling at a trade show

Trade shows work great however the downfall to a trade show is that you are limited to only a minority of people who will be interested in what you are selling, when you sell online your audience will increase by a lot because online you can reach out to more people who have an interest in what you are selling. Advertising is also better online because again your advertising will reach a wider audience meaning you reach more people worldwide who would be interested and become potential buyers. Trade shows are okay if you are looking to make a small amount of money however if you are looking for a lot of sales and making a lot more money online is better.

The marketers that sell online face-to-face in a physical store should totally adapt and also sell online, otherwise, they risk everything they have a few years from now.
On the other hand if you sell only online, there are little benefits into starting a physical business too, I mean, if you ever get big, sure, you will probably need to have a physical location, but if you aren't very popular yet and aren't earning enough, don't complicate things, stay online and try to improve your business on the internet.

I think that selling at a trade show will bring more customer's and some of them may become loyal ones. If a customer has the item in its face and can try it or see if it is functioning, is more willing to buy that product. Selling online is more difficult, the product may break on the road delivery and replacing a product takes time, energy and costs. I prefer selling at a trade show!

Joining a trade show is no joke. The joining fee alone would be enough to pay for your domain and hosting for a few years. Yet, there are no guarantees that you can sell or make other forms of conversion. Nowadays, people prefer to browse the internet to find almost everything. Trade shows are losing attendance in many places. Your website can be up and be set to do all the tasks while you sleep. The array of products that you can display on your website can very well exceed the space that you will be allowed to occupy on a trade show. This maximizes your investment.

In order to sell through a trade show, you need to book a stall at the show. This costs a lot of money. People will buy on trade show only when you are offering for less value than it is generally available in the market. Because of these two things, you might end up having a trade deficit.
On the other hand, if you are selling online, your promotion cost will be a way far lower than the promotion cost at the trade show. In order to benefit from trade show, you need many customers. However, for online sale, few customers can give you a lot of profits.

We can't compare the two because online sales is the best for now. Even one with a small business can do well now online.Trade show could be for a limited time but online sales is forever thing. It can even be automated and one can still be making money while asleep which is not same for trade show that one has to always be there physically to get things done

Just by reading the title of this discussion, what comes to my mind is the universality of the social media. Your marketing campaign can be read by a variety of people and if you are well versed with social media marketing, you can have a way of exposing your promotion to the appropriate people. One way is to create a Facebook group that will cater to people interested in your niche or business. If you can gather hundreds of members in that Facebook group then you are on the right track.

You've explained the PROs and CONs perfectly. Of course, in the end, why not do both? Some people love online shopping. But some people still like to go shopping! Physical shopping, the good old-fashioned way, where they can see and touch the merchandise.
