Content creation tips: Writing really fast!

Look, I personally know I'm not the best content writers around. And guess what? This is important! Don't get ahead of yourself when it comes to your skills, I'm not saying don't trust your abilities, but never assume you are an expert at something, you will always have something else to learn and there will always be someone better than you!

I remember when I first started working online, offering my services for forum owners that needed content. My written English was terrible! Took me 10 minutes to write 25 words post! But I always persevered and I always did my best - these two aspects are in my opinion the most important part of being a content writer, you don't really need to have native talent (although that helps) you just need to persevere, constantly improving but also (highly important) NEVER submit sloppy work, always do your best (this is the way you keep clients around).

Ok, so we outlined some crucial factors in being a content writer. The next problem you are going to have is writing fast enough to make things profitable.
It doesn't matter how much you are getting paid for your writing, you need to learn to write fast and accurate, time is you biggest enemy, the more time you lose in a day's work, the smaller the paycheck.

So here are my main tips on how to write fast:

1. Discover the period of the day when you mind is the most active and start writing! Personally, I can't really write on afternoons, so I avoid creating content on afternoons, I focus instead on research, noting subjects I want to approach next time.
The best time for me is in the morning, my mind is highly active and I end up doing a lot by noon.

2. Set up a clear time period for you to write in. Don't over do it! I set myself 1 hour at the desk for continues writing, I generally don't move and I avoid any distraction in the period. Once the hour is up, I take a small break and come back to polish my creation.

3. You need to have a desire to write. Don't see it as an obligation or as a choir you need to finish, train yourself to love what you are doing, love to write!

4. Always write content ideas down! Every day I dedicate my time for at least one hour to research, this is when I filter topics and write down future content subjects.

5. Create a content structure for every article. I always split everything into subheadings and just fill the blanks afterward, if you want to write fast you need to have a clear idea where you are heading before you actually start creating the main content.

6. If you write a lot and you just end up running out of ideas is time to take some time off from writing. Let your mind relax.

7. Have a specific ritual set up. Discover what works for you and what makes you productive (coffee, tea, morning workout, etc) and do that every time you start writing. If you don't have any ritual or don't know what works for you, start testing stuff, eventually, you will find the right approach.

8. Stay on track. When doing research don't get lost reading about other topics. Stay loyal to the content and subject you need to finish.

9. There is always a tomorrow. Don't overdue it if you feel you wrote everything there was to write about a specific subject in one day. Wait a day or two and come back with a fresh perspective.

10. WRITE. This is probably the best and most important tip I can give you. If you want to write fast you need to have a lot of practice. The more you write on a daily basis, the more your writing will improve and you will end up writing faster and bigger pieces of content!

Thanks for your tip!

I particularly like to organize in topics the content that I will produce. This makes it much easier to start writing and besides, I can take a break when I want to and then rewrite without getting lost. Separating the content and topic also helps me to improve my inspiration and to focus on small steps instead of thinking about the full content and simply not being able to focus on anything specific.

Your tips are great and I'm going to apply some of them.

You make a very interesting point. Couple of years ago I was shut from a freelancer site. I did not do any wrong except I was applying on the jobs that I did not have expertise. You know how to write does not mean you can write all sorts of things. If you are a good article writer for newspaper, it does not mean you will become a best online writer. A story writer may not be able to compose a poem.
I never go for fast writing. I can write an article in 2-3 hours, provided research has been already done, however, I never publish immediately, I let it mature and come back to the article few days later.

You are right that writing does not mean you know how to write but you also need to know the subject matter very well. That is the reason why I am learning SEO methods because it is very popular now and there are many forums with an SEO board which means I can earn more if I have full knowledge of what SEO is all about.

Thank you for sharing these tips!

These are very encouraging. I always like to write though English is not my native language, I am trying to improve my writing skill. I learned to have a content structure from Michael Hyatt recently, and it really saved my time. I am also trying to write down any ideas as much as possible. I agree with the last and most important tip - just WRITE. I also found that the more I write, the better and faster I become.

I'm not a content writer, but still enjoyed reading this. There are definitely certain times of day when my mind is more active, and it is easier for me to accomplish things. I usually try to avoid doing anything important late in the evening, because I'm more prone to making simple mistakes.

On the subject of writing, one day when I have more free time, I'd like to try and build a text content generator...just for fun. I know people hate those things, but I find them interesting.

I have just started trying my luck in this business and being non-native also and that was very helpful thank you! It's important not to give up and don't let disappointments to bring you down. It takes time and practice to be good at anything in life and writing is no different.

Thanks for a great article. With regards to point 8:

"8. Stay on track. When doing research don't get lost reading about other topics. Stay loyal to the content and subject you need to finish. "

This has always been my downfall. I enjoy the research aspect and often get sidetracked wasting valuable time. There are so many things to learn that are sometimes more interesting than the topic itself.

Very good tips there, well done! I agree that it is really important to notice when you feel like writing, because at times you just cannot make yourself write anything, and chances are that if you try you just end up delivering a lower quality content. Personally I prefer to stick to a certain time every day, as having a habit helps, at least for me. Also, having some time off and getting away from the computer helps a lot.

This is perfect. There are really times when I just don't have the desire to write, I feel like it takes me so long to think of ideas rather than when I'm in the mood for writing and an idea just pops up every minute. I've never tried creating a structure for my content before, and I think it's a very smart idea, will definitely try that out soon.

This is very helpful! Anyone can use one or more of your tips.
I would add one more: you need to be devoted to the article - if you are writing something just to finish it, it shows. There isn't any soul in it, and I guess, no one wants to read articles that sound like they were written by robot.
I usually write in evenings, that's when I'm most relaxed and my brain works fast (I am not a morning person at all). If I need to write about something and ideas cross my mind during day while doing errands, I write them down in my phone, just in case not to forget them.
I really love what you wrote in tip no 7. and I completely agree - you need to have a small set up ritual. Mine is big cup of coffee, light music in the back and the most important one - I have to be home alone so no one would interrupt me.

What a inspirational post, really enjoyed the discussion you gave there and some unique tips which I will implement into my next content. I tend to do better at night when I can relax more and so far I have started up a new blog with wordpress and working hard at it pushing content out daily. I do work 1 to 2 hours on the blog then after that I share it around the social media websites online and around the internet.

As you say take a break and then go back to it I often sometimes do this I will write the content and stop half way through and make sure I save it to draft first then when I come back to it I do seem to write more and more . Anyway great post and wish everyone success along the way.

Thank you very much for the awesome tips. I already knew most of them but it is always good to refresh your previous knowledge and brush off the dirt! Content creation is one of the most important things if you want to be successful. You always want to aim to make unique, never read or seen content. It is not an easy job at all and it can get frustrating when you fail to do it.

That's why the people that do manage to continuously produce high-quality content tend to be very successful with their business. Content is needed everywhere - on your web pages, your blogs, and so on. Hey, you can even sell good content. There are so many clients looking to buy well-written articles. It's up to you though.

I must admit that you have quoted down the best possible practical points that really help in writing well. Choosing the correct working time and limiting it in short spans has really helped me a lot in improving my writing skills. I'm completely new here and still have a long way to go. Your posts shall prove very helpful in guiding me through the long journey.

I totally agree with you. These are maybe the most important points when it comes to making content for a website. I have a blog and since I do some of this things I have seen a huge difference. I always carry a notebook with me to write content ideas!

It doesn't matter how much you are getting paid for your writing, you need to learn to write fast and accurate, time is you biggest enemy, the more time you lose in a day's work, the smaller the paycheck.

I get this so much. Do you know how many endless nights I stayed up to make up for unproductive days? I agree about finding a productive time for you. Also, yes. You really need to love what you're doing. They say if you do a job you love, you will never work a day in your life. It's not much how much work you do; it's how you do it. In other words, it is quality over quantity. Ideally, you want both, but you want one high-quality article as opposed to ten terrible ones.

Thanks, your ideas are really positive and really essential in my view to be an effective content writer. I have been gradually improving in some of the areas that you have outlined. However, one area that I believe that I should be better in is to be able to stick to the task more consistently and not wander off the track too frequently.

well, I am in tune with your points. Writing has been something natural to me. Starting is the difficult most of the time, but whenever I break that barrier, it comes just like pouring water out of a cup. And I write continuously without regard for any point or something. I only correct wording, punctuation, and grammar when it comes to editing. And that is the recommended bit, always write and edit later.

Great article! I agree as well, the time that you write will affect how fast you write and the quality of your work as well. I like writing in the mornings or after midnight when everyone is in bed. I get easily distracted by noise, sound and movement so I ensure there's peace and quiet when I want to write.

Hii I personally desagree with the ninth point where you said to not overdo/ Overwork, For me when I start to write I have to continue to write The only freedom I take is for Snacks, meals, And sleep because When I stop and take a break for one or two days then I start over Or forget completely where I was and what's next!!! I guess it does not work for everyone.

Your #3 is the most important for me - needing a desire to write. I find that writers enjoy their job and most of the writers I know would always say that if you don't enjoy writing then do not write. And if you know the subject matter very well then you can write a substantial post or comment, depending on where you are writing. Bloggers tell me that writing from the head is not a good idea, you need to have an outline as guide to the flow of your article. And for forums, some of the best forum writers I know had said that you have to understand the topic and don't rush in writing a response.

I'm currently a freelancer at a content mill and though I've been writing content and ebooks for the past four years, I still read sensible tips that can help me improve as a writer. I'm guilty of wandering off to other content when doing my research and that can steal valuable time that I would have devoted to the job at hand. The site I'm working with has tons of advice to content writers as well and I plan to share them with you on separate posts.

As a content writer, you're being paid for the number of words that you can produce within a specific time frame so you'll always want to turn out as many words as possible without sacrificing quality. I find that this gets easier with time as I continue to write and practice.

Create a content structure for every article. I always split everything into subheadings and just fill the blanks afterward, if you want to write fast you need to have a clear idea where you are heading before you actually start creating the main content.

I believe that this is the killer tip for content writing. This provides the system/structure to your research and writing. You can go further by setting a word limit/allowance for each subheading, introduction, and conclusion.

I think tip number 10, basically just start writing and get your gears moving, is the most important step of all. It's easy to use 'writer's block' as an excuse but more often than not it's usually anxiety that stops us from writing the first word. Once you get over that initial hurdle, it's much easier to flesh out thoughts and write fluidly.

Also, I feel that jotting down main points helps me a great deal. I tend to waste a lot of time thinking and remembering what I want to write so putting a small memo beside my computer helps with maintaining a smooth writing flow.

These help me a lot! They are really simple and easy to apply. Ispecially relate to the one you said we have to adapt our writing schedule to
the time in the day we are most active, because it’s true, no one has the same
routine. For example I’m always active after 7pm until 12 am, it’s not for
everyone but it works for me, so that’s the important thing. Thanks again for
the article, it was really helpful.
