Can someone help me change my site to HTTPS please?!

Desperate to find someone who can help me switch from htttp to https as per the new GOOGLE rules - keep seeing everyone saying we need to switch but no clue how, any help would BE much appreciated!!! Thanks, Blake

I actually went through setting up the SSL certificate recently and it honestly isn't hard at all.

I am not sure which web hosting company you are currently using but majority sells the SSL and even help you through installation. I know that NameCheap does and they even have a click type of install that you can do through the Cpanel.

So, before you try and do it all yourself contact the web host and see if they sell it and set it up/guide you through.

I was really confused at first as well when I wanted to setup SSL for my site as well since I had never done it before but it's actually really easy once you know what you are doing. You can get an SSL certificate from sites like GoDaddy but if you do not want to spend money then you can get a free one from LetsEncrypt (but you will have to renew it every 3 months). All you will have to do is contact your host and they will handle most of it (as long as they support LetsEncrypt).

you need to contact your hosting company, and check if they have site support so you can tell them you need to change to HTTPS. That's if you don't see any provision to acquire the SSL certificate. Then when you contact your hosting company, they will give you the guidelines to do that, some even come with just a single click, once you have paid for it, depending on your hosting company.

I think you can get Let's encrypt SSL. You can have it through the Cpanel of your host. You can ask them to deploy that system on their hosting services. And this may take time but it is definitely doable. You can see that some of the HTTPS would be leading for the new browsers. You can also use other paid SSL options. You may have to get it from the reasonable priced hosting services. You can then attach that to your hosting. That works out just fine.

It sounds like you have had several people answer your discussion here so my guess is that you will have your site switched back to https in no time. It is a good thing there are people available who can help with these concerns.

I did it through my hosting provider. Namecheap, did it for me I paid for the SSL and they did it within 5 minutes so yeah ask your web host and depending on who you're with some don't mind doing it for you.

Changing your site to https is quite simple and what you can do yourself simply by going to the settings page of your control panel. You are going to edit your site to https redirects, but you will be warned that this change may affect some other features within your account. Thus, you will be asked if you would love to continue with this option. The decision lies with you. You are in full control.

I think CPanel now has that automated. And it can be done even without we doing anything. So the HTTPS is going by default for the sites. So it seems like a good thing to do. For this I am guessing the web hosts need to upgrade the cpanel on their own. I have hawkhost where it is done automatically.

In order to use https on your site, you should get a SSL certificate from your host. You can use free SSL certificate from Letsencrypt. However, if your host does not support letsencrypt, it is very difficult to do it by yourself unless you know coding.

I have to agree with this. I have letsencrypt on the cpanel. But many hosts like hostgator and few others are avoiding that. They want to make money from the paid SSL. And for that reason they don't allow the feature for the HTTPS. So it;d be reasonable to make use of the other options that you have with you. That's going to help a lot.

Generally speaking, the web hosts that sell SSL does not support free SSL certificates. For instance, I use namecheap and namecheap does not support free SSL, if you want to use HTTPS, you will have to buy security certificates from namecheap. However, there are many hosts that support free security certificates.

Yes they want to make money selling things. So they don't allow users to use free service. And that way they are staying in a business. I hope that changes soon. Because letsencrypt should be offered by your webhost. And otherwise they are not worth using because google prefers SSL based websites. And lack of SSL reduces your SEO.

In my observation, most of the big web hosting companies do not support free SSL because they also sell security certificates. Most of the small web hosts support free SSL. Why should you pay for a thing this is already available for free. Therefore, it is better to change to the host that offer free SSL.

I think big ones do support the free SSL. e.g. companies like digitalocean, rackspace, linode, etc are big companies that support free SSL. But namecheap, godaddy, hostgator companies from EIG brands. They don't support the free SSL. The reason being they want to make money and want to take advantage of the people who don't know about this.

Changing your website from http to https shouldn't be an issue at all. It depends on your choice when you were trying to buy the domain. Usually, options are given as to what kind of protection and privacy you are willing to give your domain or website. Charges go along with these selections depending on your preference. For instance, when I was ordering for my own domain, I paid for SSL certificate, privacy and protection which the https is all about. The https, when attached to your domain, adds privacy and protection to your website.

It is not hard to change to https but first I need to know which hosting control panel are you using?
Setting up https based on hosting control panel will help us to setup right configuration because on each control panel as directadmin, cpanel, plesk..etc then there are quick way to setup, even you just enable some features on Cpanel as openSSL then you could use https without more configurations for your sites.

Wait a minute there. May I know if getting an SSL certificate will cost you money? If yes then how much would it cost me to convert my site to HTTPS by using that SSL certificate? Another question is about the validity of the HTTPS site with the old Chrome because there are HTTPS sites that we couldn’t access using Chrome that we had to shift to Firefox to be able to access it. Any ideas?
