How do you deal with slow internet connection?

Using a slow internet connection has a way of killing my mood when I try to get things done online. There have been a couple of times where I have been forced to quit a task or source for an alternative internet access. Here in this part of the world where I am, Nigeria to be precise, a major problem we've been plagued with is poor internet connectivity and slow speed. The internet service providers here are mobile operators owned by private individuals and their internet coverage strength is controlled by competition and subscriber database.

Each mobile operator has specific areas where their internet coverage is either strong or weak. In summary, none is a major stakeholder in providing internet service in all locations. I always have to be on an internet bundle with at least two of the mobile operators to be on the safer side. To be honest, having to live this way has not be profitable and not everyone can afford to do this. Also, their internet speed is poor compared to other countries out there. On the average, I get about 0.49 Mbps for download and 0.20 Mbps for upload which is very slow. Watching a High Definition video on YouTube is frustrating with speed like this.

How do you cope with slow internet if you have experienced something similar?

A very fun discussion, and one that not only I can relate to but others as well. Let me start out by saying most internet providers are frauds, and when you initially order a package from an internet provider at first the internet is really fast, and over time you notice a little change in the internet speed. And if you really pay attention, this happens at the end of your contract (if you are on a contract). This is done on purpose, for the following reasons:

1. Internet providers sell too much, and can not keep up with the demand. They will oversell their services and over time your internet speeds will decrease to a point where you will have to contact them. Their usual response is that the wiring is old, or that they dont see any speed decrease on their end.

2. To upsell more services, packages or bundles. Some people will pay extra to increase their internet speed. A lot of people are not tech-savvy and have no idea how much speed they really need but they often think they need mid or top grade internet speeds. They would buy these premium packages and the speed will of course lower to a degree that you will have to contact the provider again and get the run around - again!

However, there is a couple of things you can do to help this issue:

1. Install an ad blocker
Advertisements sometimes take forever to load, thus increase page load times. An efficient ad blocker will actually block the source, instead of just hiding the advertisement on the page. I strongly suggest using uBlock Origin. Ad Block Plus use to be my favorite until they sold out, they now allow companies to pay them to whitelist their domains. . totally bull!

2. Utilize your hosts file. On windows you have a hosts file, and you can add entrees into this file. I previously replied on a discussion and include my full hosts file that not only blocked ads, but it also blocked malicious domains too. Once these entrees are in your hosts file, the domains will not load.

3. Uninstall add-ons, extensions, and plug-ins you don't use or have no use for. This will slightly increase page speeds.

4. If you can enter your router account, you should try and see if you can enable parental controls and add the most popular advertising domains such as double clicks, google ads, etc. This is block the domain from loading.

5. Install NoScript to block javascript advertisements, and/or disable flashplayer.

If you need help, feel free to send me a message and I'll help you make your internet more faster.

I agree with the first point you made about ISPs throttling one's speed towards the end of your contract. That's no good way to do business and it's shaddy.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Everett
Yep, they do it all the time. In fact there is an automatic process that does this. A friend of a friend of mine, or my friend's friend works for an internet company and says it happens to most people who have a contract with them. There is nothing workers can do about it, other than wait for the customer to contact their internet service provider to complain about slow internet speeds. And also a lot of the time, and especially if you order a package and it is a promotional package for say 2 years and you are granted say 75mbps internet speeds. They don't often follow through with the agreement and at most you'll get about 20mbps, instead of your full 75mbps that is owed to you, that you purchased. They will do this around the 1 year mark from the initial order date. And sometimes the support will try to sell you additional services. It's a complete mess really.

I have a problem with Ad blocker because it may have a drawback with the Adsense of some sites that I visit. We also have our blog that is in Adsense and I would hate it if the ads on our blog wouldn’t earn because of the Ad blocker. Anyway, I agree that some ads take a long time to display in full and that it very noticeable in the online version of the newspapers here. Maybe I should use Ad blocker on those sites.

Slow internet connection is so bad. Its not a good situation for online jobs. You better change your internet connection. Its really difficult for me to do my job online if my internet is very slow. I really went to the office of the internet provider and gave my resentments to them.

When I went their office and talked with their front desk clerk, they admitted that its really their fault. She said that they are doing something to make their internet speed faster. My monthly payment will be adjusted because of their poor service. Today their connection is good because I told them of our internet problem directly before.

My download speed is currently 6.33 Mbps and that is considered quite slow although it tends to be the same for a lot of people over here in London. I could not imagine having a speed like 0.49 MBps for download, that would just be awful, to be honest. Makes me panic thinking about such a slow speed.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vhinz
I don't download big files often because here in the Philippines the ISPs change the data that a subscriber could use every money. They implemented a monthly data capping for new subscribers. They data that new subscribers can use is limited based on monthly internet subscription fee. ISPs were not able to fix the slow internet connection problem that's why there solution is to limit the data that subscribers can use.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DarthHazard
Luckily, we don't even have to worry about download sizes because we are on an unlimited usage plan so we can download as much as want every month without having to worry about any extra costs. I think we pay around £25 per month for our unlimited internet.I could not imagine having a cap on how much I could download, especially considering how large some of the games I download are.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vhinz
It is really disappointing that here in our country ISPs implemented data capping. We are the most costly and the very slow internet connection in the Asia. And the amount that we are paying is not really the speed that we get.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Data caps are like traps. They tempt you to with a bit higher speed. But eventually you'll run out of data and end up paying more. So it's better to get an unlimited data plan.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vhinz
Yup! Here in our country ISPs implemented data capping that's why new subscribers don't have a choice.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's very unfortunate. Maybe there'll come a time where the tables turn. Consumers need to start getting what they pay for. I hope it happens soon.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's hard. But it seems like a common thing for people living in your country. I feel like most users are not getting the speed they deserve. It's probably the bad way internet providers make lots of money.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well... I think 0.49 MBps for download certainly sucks (especially for those who usually download large and / or heavy files). I don't think I would have known how to handle such speed for a long time, haha. I would have to solve this problem as soon as possible.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Me too. That's why I tend to avoid using other internet services. Most of them are unreliable. I'm sticking with the one that's working relatively well.

6.33 Mbps is some pretty amazing download speed. I wish I could experience such around here. Some private broadband companies offer 4G LTE connectivity here but it is quite expensive and their network coverage is available to a few cities.

I can see why. Most Asian countries have slow and unreliable internet speed. Japan is probably one of the few exceptions. They have blazing fast internet connection.

I thought that slow internet connection only happened in the Philippines. Hence, I believed that we have one of the worst internet connection around the world. It is so slow but we pay extra for that. It is so unfair.

We had an issue with this at home for a while, but my roommate works from home as an IT tech and consultant, so she had her company pay for faster service and get everything under control, etc. I am lucky to have her as a roommate, and I would not have this luxury otherwise. I have found, though, that the basic residential download and streaming speed here in American neighborhoods is pretty fast and consistent. I am not downloading huge data chunks, so for what I use the net for and the bandwidth for is pretty low key and no hassle.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
It's pretty cool to have a fast internet connection for it makes files easier to download and the best part of doing so is that one can get things done easily working on the internet. It's great to know that most Americans enjoy that privilege.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
Barida,
Exactly--recently, we had some really inclement weather, and it adversely affected out internet connections. I had become so spoiled on our high speed set-up that I was going nuts watching the spiral on the screen or in the window spin incessantly while I was waiting for a page to pop up or for something to download or finish. It really is a privilege, and if Americans lost it for any length of time, I think they would flip out and go a bit crazy, lol.

While I was studying in USA, I noticed Internet was really good, compared to the service we have in Latin America. So first, people don't complain about it please, because you don't know how lucky you are. What I did noticed too, and was really annoying, is that every time weather changed, and it was windy, or rainy, Internet went out of service, as well as cable TV either. But generally speaking, service works fine there, and you can count on Internet to do mostly all your errands online. I do envy you guys.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
I am glad that you posted this--I think that most Americans really do not know how good they have it, and this pertains to many things and not just the Internet. The infrastructure here for all things media is super-enforced, and billions of dollars go into it. I grew up, being born in the seventies, without the internet, so I think that I still have a grasp on what a luxury it is to have all of the amenities which the American lifestyle has to offer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Exactly, I grew up in the 70's-80's, and in a third world country, so for sure I know how to appreciate what I have right now, even if it's not the best in the universe. All those billions of dollars are paying it right, because if you were here where I live, you will get insane hahaha. And I want to make it clear, I'm not making an empty critic here, our Internet service is unbelievably bad, and we suffer for it every single day.

Luckily Malaysia internet speed had improved now. Before, my internet speed was around a few mbs, it was as slow as a snail. The best time to use the line is midnight when everyone is asleep. Now, the speed had increased to 10GB, although I don;t get the full speed, half of the speed is good enough

Good thing in your country. Here in my country internet is so poor. Sometimes you cant able to watch movies because of the bufferings.

I'm from the Philippines where internet signal is very low. Jack Ma, the founder of alibaba,, visited the Philippines last month and he was not impressed when he tested our internet. He told our government and the Telecom companies to work together to improve their services because having a good internet connection it will help businesses and individuals to become more competitive online. Having poor internet connection is really a problem here in our country especially like me that is living in a province. That's why it is difficult to work for a client online that requires high speed internet connection.

First, I do the basic procedures: check the settings or turn off the modem to rest and reconnect it afterwards, for example. When these procedures don't usually work, I think there is nothing more to be done other than wait.

If the problem persists, so... It's time to call the technical assistance to solve the situation.

WOW I thought my internet was painfully slow. I have Comcast and I am suffering with 25mbps for $30 a month. In the mean time WOW is offering 100mbps for $19.99 a month. But Comcast has a monopoly on this apartment complex, you can only get Comcast because they signed a contract with Comcast saying that they will not let anymore internet providers in here.

P.S. I would probably throw my computer out of the window if I had 0.49 download speed.

I find it fascinating just how terrible internet connection really is in first world countries. Countries like the United States and England are the epitome of what most would consider first world living, and yet their internet connections are absolutely atrocious, especially for the cost.

For the longest time while I was living in New York City, I had an internet connection of under 5Mbps with Verizon, and I remember my family paying ludicrous amounts for our bills, like upwards of $80.

Currently I'm living in Eastern Europe and I get just under 30Mbps (usually around 3.7 megabytes a second) for the equivalent is 5 USD, and I could get even higher speeds for just a little more money but I find more than that unnecessary anyway.

I hope that policies on internet connection change for the better before I return.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Soulwatcher
It's sickening the amount of money that they charge for the speed that you get. 3rd world countries have better internet speeds then the United States and their internet is cheaper to boot. I don't like to get into politics but our government is letting most companies stomp all over consumers because big business is lining their pockets with money!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Funny thing is, we kinda get used to this snail speed around here. Our taste will change the very moment we experience faster connectivity. As a kid, I remember the very first time I experienced 3G speed. It was like the best thing that ever happened to my internet experience back then. Before then I was used to EDGE/GPRS bandwidth which I was okay with.

Using the internet back then required a lot of patience and time input. I could remember loading a javascript enabled page for over 5 minutes or thereabouts.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DarthHazard
I could not even imagine waiting 5 minutes for a single page to load. That sounds like hell to me. The thing is, once you have used a faster connection, you will get used to it and you will think of it as being slow so you will then want even faster internet, like myself How do you deal with slow internet connection?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
It's not fair to read that a particular network provider could have monopoly over providing internet connection and still couldn't make it as fast as possible. I hope the government do something about it as quick as possible.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Baburra
I have had this problem before and thankfully it has cleared up, but I understand how frustrating it can be. Back then, I would load multiple pages and just use multiple tabs so I could have the next page loaded when I need it. I think there is not much you can do with slow internet so it may be best to just focus on troubleshooting that if it becomes too much of a hurdle.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I believe more issues is with the network provider than hardware issues of the internet which is why I think we have to take a look at how efficient the network providers are before talking about troubleshooting.

Luckily for me, the internet is actually not too bad even in the evening. If I am gaming online then I will notice a tiny bit of a lag especially if everyone in my house is on their devices using the internet. But most of the time it is good enough and doesn't affect my internet speed. For me, the internet is perfect in the morning as well (around 8am - 10am).

My internet speed is file all day but I live in the city with HUGE Fiberoptic connections so I rarely have a problem with the internet. heck even my cellphone internet is good around here, I get like 28mbps down and 5mbps up almost 24/7.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I struggle with this a lot. You can see that some of the time it'd be not so easy with the internet connection. I can't even make use of the connection for reaching to the online websites. And this in turn going to have it's set of the limits. And that in itself is not going to be good enough for many among us. So it's always a good idea for people to try out good internet with or without mobile based plans. And surely that would be good for the online earning.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

0.49 Mbps?! For most of my life I lived with 5 Mbps internet and I always felt like the speed was atrocious, but now I realize that I never had anything to complain about. If I were you I wouldn't even bother watching high definition YouTube videos and would just lower the quality in exchange for a smoother watching experience.

I honestly don't think I can even give any adequate advice given that these days I operate on 30 Mbps, and when that internet goes down I have a wireless USB connection that is even faster than that. Safe to say I'm fairly spoiled.

I seriously hope that they improve the connection in your country because I think an internet connection that slow really dampens your potential.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Everett
Oh totally, you do not know how good you have it until you use someone's internet or find out their internet speed. For instance, the discussion creator mention their speed is less than 1 MBPS which is laughable in the developed world. However, in such countries you don't have many choices and you have to pick the best provider, and sometimes they cost a fortune or both providers are equally as bad so you have to pick one that is the cheapest or offers the best area coverage.

There is a real monopoly with internet providers in the under developed world because they can get away with it, and they do often. The only time they either up the internet speed, or lower prices is if a competitor comes in. However, this probably won't happen because they usually get a non-compete legal contract with either the state or city stating that no other companies can come in to compete. I've learned this from a documentary on Youtube. If I can remember the documentary name or find it, I'll edit this post and add the youtube link. So basically they are stuck with horrible internet until something changes and more reliable internet sources arrive.

Another area of development where governments around the world are failing miserably. We are supposed to be the progressive generation. Internet should be a basic need like water, housing, electricity e.t.c

Before you subscribe to any internet service you should find out what their speeds are. If they don't provide those speeds you should speak up and even demand your money back or ask for a credit.

My internet provider is supposed to provide me with 30mps. They hardly ever do that. I keep sending them e-mails, twitter messages and calling them. I often threaten to change providers. I've noticed many of their clients doing this and I have noticed their services improving. If you're paying for something don't accept nonsense guys, otherwise, people will take advantage.

This doesn't happen around here. Even if you do a proper background check on an internet service before you hop on the train, reality will dawn on you when you discover that their services are poor and there is really nothing that you can do about it. ISPs usually get away with their dubious acts and are usually not held accountable.

Yep, same here. I am pretty happy with my ISP but I know a few of them are just so bad. My grandmother signed a contract with one and she was promised a certain speed yet she never has it. I used to experience that while working in the office. The internet seems okay but then it will stop working. So you end waiting more than 5 minutes. It slowed operational time a lot until it got fixed.

I am pretty fortunate because I live quite close to the city and the internet that we have here is extremely good, reliable and fast. Just a while ago, they freely upgraded the internet speed - no extra costs, perhaps so we'd stay with them for more years, no idea. But I never experience slow internet, ever. The only times that I had such experience was when I was in a hospital and they had some really bad WiFi. I tried to get some of my work done and it drove me crazy... it took 5 minutes to even load a page. I can understand how frustrating it must be having to deal with such issue on a daily basis.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It's very frustrating if you have a slow internet connection especially if you work online. Ever since I switched to a new internet service provider I stopped having this problem. Previously, it was taking ages to load a single page or to post something online. It was a nightmare to watch YouTube videos. Nowadays, I watch many movies and sports online. Moreover, I work as a freelancer online and it is imperative for me to have a good internet connection.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Everett
Because of your faster connection, I am sure you probably earn more income than you did before you upgraded your internet. I could not imagine using a slow connection such as dial-up for instance. I would probably never go on the internet if my connection was that slow. I may go to great measures to actually move somewhere where the internet connection is faster. Sounds crazy but I need the internet to survive in this world. Plus, I love to work online and am a bit addicted to it, i need to fuel my addiction!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That seems to be the best solution. If we can afford it, we should just change service providers. Life's too short to struggle with unreliable services. Not to mention how expensive it is. Best to get what we pay for.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

My internet connection is not the greatest, but what bothers me more than slow speed is not enough data. I have a limit on my bandwith and it drives me out of my mind. My ISP does offer unlimited data but it is very expensive. I can't wait until we get an affordable service.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Oh, I know what you mean. It's best to avoid those with data cap. It's like a trap for people who want faster speeds. With how we use the internet, we'll quickly use up our allotted volumes faster. Better to choose unlimited data plans.

The only time things get slow in terms of loading pages is when I an uploading a video 100 MB's or more to YouTube - and trying to work at the same time. My local area provides three options. Regular Verizon internet service, Verizon FIOS, or Optimum broadband. Years ago I signed up for a cable, internet and phone bundle with Optimum. But the phone service had a few odd drawbacks. I'd get wrong numbers at odd times of night and sometimes the line would be compromised when I tried to dial out. But that's probably because I switched my old phone number to one provided by Optimum. So I switched over to Verizon and haven't had any problems since.

Upgrading might not be the solution if you have epileptic internet connection like what we experience here especially if the maximum speed provided by an ISP is generally slow. I guess the best thing will be to ditch the slow ISP and switch over to another much more faster ISP.

I agree that slow internet connection can ruin your mood especially when you have a big workload to do. In our previous internet provider, there were periods, particularly in the daytime, that access was very slow and sometimes the webpage even hangs. It was difficult to work so what I would do was to stop working and do some other things. There even was a time when I went to the nearest fast food outlet just to avail of their free wifi for my laptop. On another occasion, I did my online work in a cyber shop. But now our internet connection is pretty good.

It's become one of the great necessities of modern life. Nowadays, we can't live without it. Literally. It's as if all jobs are connected to the internet. And if you don't have one, it incredibly limits your job choices.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Nice to hear that. It seems that some of us are getting better connections. But you're right. Lots of people still struggle with having reliable internet connection. It's very disruptive if it happens during work hours.

We live in an apartment complex and use the Internet Service Provider who landed the contract. Most of the time, the service is fairly decent. But there are days when the service sucks. I take each day as it comes.

I live in an apartment complex to and they signed a deal with Comcast and so its Comcast or nothing. Apartment complexes should not be allowed to restrict other companies from coming and selling internet to the residents in the complex. Because I could get a far better deal with WOW but Comcast blocked them from coming into the complex.

The bane of restricing internet access to an apartment complex or any other form through whatever means is sometimes costly. Individual firm's monopoly may aise and can be also be disadvantageous to a lot of people. You're stuck with them till the contract expires.

Thanks for the heads up.

That's so not cool. People should be allowed to choose their service providers. It's like they're forcing us to buy stuff because we can't get any other seller. Not because there's no one else but because they won't allow it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's unfortunate. I guess they like monopolizing things. They want to sell their services. But that's not a fair way of doing so. They're only making users less inclined to use their service.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's a very realistic approach. I too have had days where it wasn't performing at maximum capacity. But I guess you just have to go with it. You can't change their service. Only provide feedback.

I am based in Nepal and I live in a countryside. In the city, I can get upto 10 mbps if I subscribe to a business plan, however, this package is very expensive. I have to pay $30 for this package, which is very expensive. In the countryside, the only available option is mobile data in 3G band. This is a prepaid package and I have to pay $3 for 6 GB data. The speed is not very good it is around 1 or 2 mbps.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I see what you mean. I'm currently subscribed to a plan. I find it better because it's consistent and reliable compared to mobile data. It just wouldn't work if I were to use anything else.

Things have changed now in my place. I have subscribed to broadband service, however, speed is still not very good, however, it is better than the mobile data. Internet is still expensive in my country. I am paying $21 per month for 1 mbps.

It seems really not good I can tell. Good thing my country has LTE which is the new upgraded service. Even in the rural area the internet speed is better compare to yours but still I am not satisfied the speed.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I've found LTE to function best in urban places. It's because they're near to where they're getting internet signal. So I find them useful for those living in the city.

For a slow INTERNET, you can use any light and portable browser. This will be very useful, or you may try to make contact with your ISP and request for speed upgrade. Now the mobile Internet is very rapid, but it will be more costly than conventional home cable Internet.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I prefer home internet because it's more stable. Mobile internet is usually unreliable. And I think we should measure internet performance with consistency instead of just speed.

I live in EU and I have Orange ISP. This is very good provider. I remember when I have slow internet about 10 years or more ago.
My connection was at 55,6Kbit. I could not open 2 or 3 websites at the same time. Just 1 website.

To speed up slow connection you can check autostart cmd > msconfig to see if any software use your internet when you don't need this - like Dropbox.

That's one of the tips people are looking for. Thanks for sharing this. I'm glad I have less to worry now compared to the previous years. I used to have internet problems all the time.

I don't know how it is in your place, I live in Nigeria and we have various things we do to deal with ours over here, it also depends on your location and what type of network you are subscribed to.

Here I switch of my phone if network start misbehaving I guess you should try it too maybe it might help, I also switch my sims to see which one has a good network to be on a safe side, also when you are facing network issues you can go on airplane mode then switch it back it can revive back the slow Internet connections.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah, I think I'd agree with you as regards mobile operators and their network receptions at specific places. It's always a good thing if one is lucky to be on the point where network reception is at it's best.

It's simply blissful.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's unfair. How is everyone supposed to get good internet connection? It's really difficult to get what you paid for when using mobile operators. That's why it's better to have a plan subscription to more stable alternatives.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I remember trying different things to get mine to work. But at the end of the day, it's really the network provider's fault. So we should consider switching to something more reliable. We shouldn't pay for faulty internet.

I would simply just deal with them by calling their service and tell them how bad and slow their internet can go and they should stop raising the payment as well. I don't like doing some stupid things that I saw or have seen on the internet like the hack life on how to get your internet fast, and someone said that they should put a foil on the antenna of the router, and for me that's stupid. The simple and amazing tips I can give is call their service and tell them that you'll cut your internet if they didn't do a thing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Sounds like you've had bad experience. I don't know what others would do in your case. Maybe they'll call as well. But not everyone has the guts to actually push through with a complaint like that. So good for you for fighting for your rights. You deserve to get a decent service for the fine they charge you.

I hate slow internet connection. If I really can't avoid having one, I just prioritize which sites I have to open and which job should be finished first. I open pages one at a time to ensure maximum speed per page. I don't really multitask with slow network connection, so finding out which tasks are more important is essential in working in slow speed situations.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Me too. Opening multiple tabs just makes it harder for us. So I only focus on a few pages at a time. I don't like the feeling of having to go through more than 5 tabs because it's too many.

Well i suggest that you first determine the cause of the slow connection. In my experience, i determined that the physical part of the connection is mainly the cause of the slow connection. There are two possible reasons of slow connectivity, the services side and the physical side (antenna and router). If you are in a highly populated are and most residence have connections, i think its probably the connection side. There are times that your connection is quite fast and there are times it's slow probably because of data traffic...and the only way to address that is tweak your antenna.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Most providers for those with slow internet connection are unsatisfactory. They're already really slow to begin with. And they become unstable as weather conditions and heavy traffic come in.

Speaking of slow internet connection, first, it's sad to say that my country is one of the countries that has slowest speed of internet which recorded as 5.5 mbps only. How do we deal with it? Personally, I deal with our slow internet connection as it is because no matter how we tried to do something to make it a little bit satisfactory even we spend a little more as well, it doesn't still makes sense at all because our internet provider has the root cause for slow speed. I remember one forum that I attended before and one of the speaker is actually one of the employee in our big telecommunication companies and he admitted that we have the very slow speed because of some political issues so I believe that we can only get the good speed we deserve if they settle whatever issue they have regarding in providing our country with internet.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Other countries may have similar issues. It seems that only a select few countries have fast and stable internet connection for everyone. I hope more countries improve their internet speed and connectivity.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
That will only happen if they are willing to improve the service they provide for the people, but if they are still into their own interests then there will be no changes at all. Though my country has different providers that we can choose of, but most of the good one especially those small companies with lesser number of subscribers are not available in some areas which is unfortunately the place where I live is included. Therefore, we have no other choice but to avail with big companies who can accommodate bigger distances when it comes to connection.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I feel sad about that. It's like people are forced to choose the lesser alternatives because there's no one else left. Internet providers are usually shady when it comes to making money from people's necessities. They give us expensive internet plans that aren't worth it because of the instability.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
Yes, it is really so sad and I think most of us feel the same way. That's true, they give us expensive internet plans and yet the connection is just horrible. There are days sometimes that the connection is worse than the usual and it really pisses me off because internet is part of our daily lives now and internet is one of the requirement in work or to any business matters. Then in the end we have to deal with it in a not nice way. I wonder how it feels to have a connection without any internet connection interruptions or buffering, though sometimes it is inevitable but when it is always happening then it is not good at all.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I've wondered that as well. Actually, I was astounded when I first got a more stable internet connection. I used to have a very bad internet provider.

I had to switch because it wasn't worth the pay. Thankfully, the next one was better compared to it. Now I can actually use the internet instead of waiting a long time while it's loading.

I'm not surprised that other service providers are unreliable. Their top priority is to make profits. Customer care is far from even being second on the list of stuff to do.

I hope so but my country seems need more times to have the fast and reliable internet connection. We have 2 giant telco companies here and both of them seems deaf to the complains of their customers. They always promised good service but once you purchased their services by that time you would realized how bad it was. Government was telling the public that 3rd telco would enter the Philippine business and yet until now never heard any updates regarding to it. What was the latest update was this third telco was from China and still under negotiating until now.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Many developing countries seem to experience this. That's why I feel for you when you share stuff like this. I really hope that the 3rd telco can change things for the better. Everyone deserves a stable connection.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
In the past, I would just go with it. I used to not have my own subscription plan. Just a basic pocket wifi. And when I say basic, I mean that it's incredibly unreliable. It's better to invest in an internet plan with the leading subscriber. This reminds me of a saying. It's about choosing the lesser evil... if you know what I mean.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
There's really no way of getting around it. The possible exception is if you have technologically adept friends. Otherwise, you have to pay for premium speed. And even that can sometimes be unreliable. So most of the time you're settling for less than what you're paying for.

I can't handle it waiting for the net to load so I just let it be and just do somethings else rather than waiting in a slow internet connection. If it is important then I really have to be patient since it is important. I'd rather play offline games than to wait, I don't know but I easily get irritated.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I feel you. It's easy to get impatient for paying and not getting the quality you deserve. I've noticed that it's a trend for most developing countries worldwide. I wonder when things will improve in terms of internet connection.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

bienn05
It is so hard to deal with this issue. I usually turn off my router for about thirty minutes and try for the connection. In the Philippines, we have such a very bad internet connection. We pay for a huge amount of money but we cannot have the internet connection we deserved. Sometimes, there is nothing you can do with it because there are no such internet providers in our country. Even restarting the router can't help you.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I've been there. There's really nothing you can do if the internet speed is slow. I mostly just use stuff that's not too heavy when it comes to data. That way, I can still make use of the internet.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Here in the Philippines, almost everyone is used to having slow internet connection. We rarely experience having fast internet connection. But there are times when the internet is slower than the usual. Whenever that happens, the first thing I do is restart my router. If the internet connection is still slow, I will check the devices connected to the network. There are times when our neighbors hack our wi-fi password and share with our internet connection.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's really sad. I've also heard that others can hack wifi passwords and stuff. That's why it's best to check who's connected to your router every now and then.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Internet connection is a big problem in my country. They promise good internet service but once you subscribed to them, by that time you realized that you would rather not avail their services. But what should we do there are only two giant telcos here and hopefully one will come to compete soon. Slow internet would change your mood specially when you have something that needs to be done asap. What I should do to prevent it and finish it is to disconnect other mobile or laptops in the internet and let one device connected.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Me too. I feel sad about others experiencing bad internet connection. And they have to pay a high fee for such a disappointing service. It's a thing for most Asian countries. Japan is one exception because I've heard they have blazing fast internet there.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Yeah Japan is first world countries that is why they having a good internet connection. Internet should be fast because business nowadays needs a good internet connection. Business will collapse if the service is poor.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I agree. And lots of people are suffering because of it. Not only do they get poor service. They also have to deal with slow internet connection. So it's like you're paying for nothing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
That is right. Telcos company our not fair in terms of their service. But in terms of payment they asking it on time and once you are not paid on time they will keep on calling and emailing you all the time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I've also had my experience with this. They're very strict and prompt when it comes to billing. But when it comes to customer care and assistance, they just let it take too long. Very unfair indeed.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
When billing time they dont care wether their service is bad or good. What they want is for you to pay on time no matter what kind of service they have provided. Unfair for the comsumers,we paying exact amount for the it but the service they giving to us is not enought for what we are paying for.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's how most businesses work. They just want to profit off people. It's like they're predators. It's hard now to find a business that's honest and fair with its customers. Especially, in the internet provider service.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
That is true. Unfair but what should we do. We need wifi so we have to subscribe with their service even though its poor. Giant telcos company in my country is not doing anything to make their internet service speed up.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's very unfortunate. I also have a feeling that many are purposely keeping things this way. They're taking advantage of people's needs. It's common for stuff like this to happen in developing countries. I guess you'll have to find the least corrupt among the service providers in your area of living.
