Why blogging can be your secret weapon

Blogging has been around for a long time now and it surprises me how many people aren't using this secret weapon to fight their way to the top of the rankings and increase their sales exponentially throughout the year. Your blog is more than just a place to post some content that you think will never get read, it's a place you can build a community off of if you do it right!

When blogging came about, it was mainly used for people to post information about their day and what they were going though. That hasn't changed much, but now it's used for businesses to talk about what they are doing day to day and how everything is going on within their industry. The posts are similar but the approach is slightly different. Some of the biggest blogs are owned by individuals posting about a specific niche or industry, not just about themselves. Sure, they could be posting their own experiences and trial and error situations, but they are posting for the sole purpose of increasing their revenue down the road.

Yes, blogging can make you a great deal of money if you do it right, but that's not what I'm here to talk about. Blogging is more than a means to make money, it's a secret weapon that can intimidate your competition or even help others out along their difficult journey. How you use your blog is up to you, but there are a few distinct things that will happen when you blog the right way, and they are:

Increased rankings through specific keyword targeting
When you begin to blog, you may not understand exactly what keyword targeting or SEO is at all, but you might be doing it without knowing. This is a good and bad thing at the same time because you could actually be doing everything well, or you might be hurting your own website or blog while posting. If you don't understand on page optimization, I would highly suggest check out these 2 discussions I wrote up in the past and dive in deeper to research everything about them:

The Very Basics Of An SEO Campaign
10 Free Ways To Help Your Websites SEO

Now, if you went to those discussions and got an understanding of what SEO is, you will be better off when blogging Why blogging can be your secret weapon If you already knew what SEO was and you skipped over those 2 URLs, not a problem at all! Let's carry on!

You can target specific keywords with your blog posts and they will increase within the rankings for those specific keywords. If you were targeting "dog collars" and you post on your blog about "Quality dog collars" then you'll have a better chance at ranking for "dog collars", makes sense right? If you're posting on your "dog collars" page about "cat bowls" it won't turn out as well.

Increased engagement through comments and shares
People are always trying to increase their engagement on social media, but what a lot of marketers are forgetting is that you can do this on your own blog as well. You can get people to come in and comment on your posts in order to churn up a conversation, and keep people coming back.

You can also set up your blog to have people log in with their Facebook, twitter, or google+ accounts and easily write content. The only downside to this is that it's not fully researched to see if the content written up through social media accounts actually gives your website credit for the content or if it just shows up on Facebook, twitter, google+, etc. I'm pretty sure it doesn't credit your own website, unless you have them register an account on your website which will have them posting to your actual page and not an iframed section that makes it look like the post is on there.

It helps increase your list size
A blog can definitely pull in a great deal of visitors from the search engines and increase your sales, but that's not the only thing it's good for. A great thing to use your blog for is to increase your list size! You can write up dozens of blog posts, but you won't grow you list at all unless you're asking people to sign up to it.

You'll need to be nice when asking users to sign up, you can't just bombard them with email sign up forms because they will jump off your website as soon as that happens. Having one pop up or drop down newsletter sign up form is fine for each time someone is on your website, but that's it. Don't have it pop up with every single page load because that's annoying. You can also have the form show up when someone is trying to leave your website, this gets a decent amount of sign ups when people are actually interested in your website but forget to look for your newsletter opt in form Why blogging can be your secret weapon

Builds trust before people make a purchasing decision
People regularly look through a company blog before making a purchasing decision. They will look to see if the website and business is active, if it is, it shows that they are serious about their product or service and help increase your sales because of it.

Building up your content will bring people in and hopefully share your content. You will also see people talking about your blog after they find you, and usually it's positive content that will show up in the search results when someone is searching for reviews about you in order to make a purchasing decision. So if you think about it, a blog is it's own sales funnel that will bring in plenty of visitors, sales, sign ups, etc.

In Conclusion
A blog is more than just a page on your website with some additional content about your niche. It's a sales funnel that encourages people to purchase from you without having to contact you first. If you don't already have a blog on your website, you'll want to get started on one because it has many benefits and can help you across the board Why blogging can be your secret weapon

Razzy,
Thanks for the keyword resources and links above--that is super helpful. I like your term, regarding blogs here, as a "Sales funnel". The benefits of a blog are wonderful, and I think that showing that you are connected to your niche and that you are actively engaged in discussing it inspires confidence in what you have to offer in your audience. If you can get many people visiting, sharing, and commenting on your page, then obviously word of mouth will spread about what you are doing, and the blog will hopefully become a great vessel for generating more traffic, that sales funnel you mentioned, to your page or pages!

A blog is really a nice way of connecting to people especially when you have a business to promote. Think if you have a thousand regular readers of your blog. When write about your business in your blog, that can be read by that 1,000 readers and there is a high probability that 10% will be interested to clink on the link of your business website. Aside from the traffic to your business website the visitors can also be converted to clients as buyers.

A blog can definitely help increase customer engagement and that can actually help you in a lot of different ways. New customers will be able to see your blog and see other customers discussing your product and other topics related to your niche. That will give them some confidence because they will realise that other people are interested in/have bought your product as well.

I agree. I always have a lot more confidence in a company or site when I see that there is some interaction from the consumers because then I at least know that other people are watching and commenting and discussing their thoughts. Even news sites that don't have a comment section bother me because I always like to look at comments whenever I'm done reading an article, and when there isn't one I find the site to be lacking or at worst, even fishy.

Blog = a sales funnel
Very well said Razzy! I believe for any business out there, especially small and medium-sized businesses, CREATE A BLOG, make an effort and write articles on a constant basis! Be helpful and actually provide quality information people actually use. Don't do it just because you have to do it, do it because you need too because you want to help people as well as your customers.
I guarantee the end results will astonish you and make you invest even more in the blog section of your website.

If you don't have a blog and you simply have 10-20 pages of "presentation" and poor written content you are missing out on the biggest sales funnel of them all, the organic search!

I have a blog for my ecommerce site. ON this blog I publish contents on the same niche as my website. By having contents in the same niche, I am able to pull customers from my blog posts. By having an engagement on my blog entries (comments), I am also able to lower my bounce rate.

Blogging would be your secret weapon because you would have your chance of sharing your interest to the target audience. You just have to choose a niche. This must be an idea you are familiar with. It must be something you can write about well. Blogging can be your gateway to financial freedom if you can do the needful before getting started. The needful includes getting a custom domain for your blog, hosting it using WordPress themes and getting ready to perform SEO tasks on it.

I think blogging helps make any person or the company be more human. We express our views. And those views can reach more people. So you can see that being secret here is reaching more people. So this type of the practice takes time. It may not be easy though. But this is something that can be done easily. You'd be surely be doing this for long time if you can. I think it'd be surely a good option in that case.

I totally agree with this post. Blogging is simple and easy. It gives someone a professional look and acts as a good CV too. Having a blog attracts others to you because a blog makes you friendly without even trying. Engaging with readers through comments will also help in growing your business.

Sales funnel? Interesting concept. However, why must everything be boiled down to dollars and cents? What happened to writing for the joy of sharing?

Seriously speaking, I think if we start to write with our eyes fixated on the bottom line, it will show in our writing style. And I doubt if anyone wants to read anything which is written expressly to make money for the writer.

The building of trust via your blog is one important factor in online business and freelancing. When you get to be trusted by thousands of followers, you can be considered an influencer. One local business analyst said that in the near future, an Influencer can earn money by being an endorse or by simply continuing with what he is doing. Having a captive audience with the followers, the Influencer is like a celebrity.

Not too long ago i read an article on how introverts can take advantage of a blog to motivate their character. I think a blog is not just a weapon but also a medium through which one can get through to the populace their inner most thoughts and creativity. For an introvert like me, i think it really means a lot.

Your tips and points on this post i can see arr very resourceful. I like the point on how someone like a blogger can actually make or earn a reasonable income through the site via sales. This should be a good motivational pill for anyone willing to start a niche.

If my business is successful today then blogging definitely has some part to play in it. I blog about my products very often and I interact with the visitors to my blog. I have also advertised my blog on social media. If SEO is done the right way then you will definitely be successful at blogging. If you have no experience then it is better to hire an expert. Blogging is not difficult. You just need to write quality content with very good titles and advertise your blog in the right way.
