4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website

Whenever you start your journey online, you will likely be stuck when it comes to your websites design. This is a pretty common thing to run into since you're just starting out and most people in your position don't really know what they're doing. Actually, a lot of people still don't know what they're doing after a year or two in the game so don't feel so bad lol. Don't worry though, Tommy is here to let you know what you should have on your mind if you're going the WordPress route for your design 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website

We all need a nice looking design if we want to be taken serious, but that's just the first step in becoming successful online. You'll also have to focus on branding, email systems that are automated, choosing the right hosting, and even setting up all your social media profiles on any platform you can think of. Now, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to getting a website up and running, but it's what you need to think of first before you start your journey so you have some sort of direction.

Below are 4 of the top things you need to think about if you're going to use WordPress as your CMS

Selecting the right WordPress theme
You might not have any money to invest into a nice theme right away, but I would highly suggest saving up a few bucks and investing that money into a great design on themeforest. I usually recommend themeforest because it's cheaper than a lot of marketplaces and their support is pretty top notch. Sure, you could go to big theme designers and pay around $100 or $200 and get all their themes along with every plugin they have, but that's probably not something you will need right now.

A lot of people will search up their industry+WordPress when they're on the marketplace of their choice, but that will just limit you when it comes to theme selection. Normally I will do the industry+WordPress search and if I don't find anything I like, I will broaden my horizons and just search through a lot of the more popular themes that can be super customized. I don't really care what niche the theme is in, if it has a lot of features I like, it's good enough for me because I can change whatever I want on it 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website

Branding your WordPress website
Whenever we launch websites, branding might not be on our minds, but it should be! If you don't see your new website as something that needs its own custom logo, color scheme, style, etc. you should likely just quit now lol. Branding a website goes a long way and you'll definitely need to invest a few bucks into a nice looking logo that you can use on your website as well as all of your social media profiles.

Think about it, how many times have you gone to an authority website and seen a crumby looking logo along with a bad design and an awful color scheme? NEVER! They always have crisp designs, great colors, and amazing logos for everyone to love. It's not a new thing that you need all of these, but one thing that people forget to focus on is the content. Content can help you brand yourself, you can be seen as an authority within your niche in a short amount of time if you are consistently posting amazing content for anyone that wants to read it 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website

Setting up an email capture system
Many new website owners forget to set up their newsletter systems, which are just email capture systems that are automated to a point that doesn't seem spammy lol. Third party services to look into are MailChimp, ConstantContact, and aweber since they are some of the bigger services out there and are still affordable.

I personally love MailChimp because I can use them for free, up to 2,000 emails, and send out newsletter whenever I want. I can't automate this because that's a paid feature, but that's not a big deal if I'm just starting off a website. Once the website starts showing promise, I will invest more money into the email capture system so I can automate it to a point where I don't have to send out a dozen emails to newly created accounts. I won't send out 12 emails in a week, that's just annoying, I will send out 1 email a week to newly created accounts because that realistically turns into 2 emails a week from me if you factor in the newsletters I custom create and send out myself 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website

Emailing newsletter opt ins will boost your traffic exponentially because they want to read what you have on your website, see what your new products are, hear what is going on with your company, and much more. If you're not going to email these people, don't bother setting this up, but you should always set this up because it's a great way to boost your own business 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website

Selecting the right hosting
This is actually a big thing when it comes to extensive WordPress themes. A lot of themes will have a lot of pages and demo content that can be uploaded, but that takes a lot of resources and you will likely need a decent hosting account to do this. I like using NameCheap with most of my WordPress backed websites because of their support system. If I'm having a problem with my website, I can quickly contact them and they will figure out what is going wrong, then we can figure out how to fix it all 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website I actually had a problem uploading demo content a few months ago and Ania at NameCheap helped me out immensely. The hosting account I was on couldn't upload the content because it was stalling out, so Ania increased all of my parameters to max and I got everything done quickly and easily 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website She then reduced them to a lower amount, but it was still much higher than the normal setup 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website

In Conclusion
This may be a short list of everything that needs to be done when setting up your own website, but it's a few great things to start off with because you'll have some sort of direction and know what needs to be done. You'll likely run into problems with any theme you choose, but most of the time its user error and you'll just need to work through it. If you can't figure it out after an hour, contact the theme owner and ask them if they can check it out. A great thing about themeforest is that 99% of the time, you will get support for your theme for 6+ months and not have to pay a single penny for it 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website

I am in the process of evaluating the use of Wordpress for my planned blog. The other alternatives are Blogger which I have already an experience or a designed website for customized features. The cheapest is Blogger because it is already there but some freelancer friends are telling me to opt for Wordpress which is very convenient once I get to know the functions that I need.

An impressive logo and an appealing theme are critical. There is just no workaround for these in order to create a recognizable public image and build your reputation.

I am currently using a free service offered by Sumo. A pop-up appears as soon as a visitor arrives at my blog offering a free subscription via eMail. I am pleased with this service.

I have heard many good things about NameCheap. You are YASC. Yet another satisfied customer. 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website

I was about to ask what YASC stood for lol 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website

Yes, you can't really go cheap when it comes to getting the right design and logo done for your website. If you skimp on the designs or pay someone that doesn't know what they're doing, you will usually suffer. Sure, your optimization could be on point and your pages are ranking, but when people get to your homepage or subpages, they will likely leave because they think you're just a crumby looking website and they can find the same content on a better website that seems like it has more authority.

Sumo is definitely something I want to try out because I've heard a lot of good things, but I just can't get past the face I can use a free plugin or pay $50 to have something custom coded that will capture my emails in MailChimp or Aweber. What exactly does Sumo do? Are they just an email capture system or are they bigger than that?

I am using the FREE plan right now. It offers a suite of free tools for you to use. But mainly I like the social sharing buttons, the newsletter subscriber button, and a neat feature that lets me highlight text in my post and tweet it. What I have heard good things about are the listbuilder and the analytics. But I have not used them. I used to use a related posts widget but it's not available anymore. At least not via the FREE plan. They have Email Services Integration if you use MailChimp, AWeber or services like that. They have a SUMO PRO plan. The prices seem reasonable. As low as $24 a month. As high as $200 a month. Or contact the Team and they will work with you. Hope this helps. Sorry, I can't be more helpful.

I agree. I can't tell you how many times I've seen bad logos and unappealing themes. It just ruins the site's potential. So always consider these carefully before using it on your sites.

Thanks for letting us know more about Wordpress. Not everyone uses, it, and probably everyone should use it. It just seems to be the way to get the sort of website design you need. I think it is one of those options that is available to most people should they want to take advantage of it.

It's definitely the best route to take if you aren't sure how to code or script up what you really want for a website design. I'm a garbage programmer and designer, but I can use a WordPress theme, with a back-end builder, and make some crazy elegant looking designs that rival something a person might have paid $5,000+ for lol.

You'll need decent hosting when it comes to a WordPress website, but most companies out there offer "WordPress Hosting" and you can be set up in just a few clicks 4 things you should think about when building a WordPress website I always go for the normal hosting so I can easily access my code if needed, that way I can have a programmer go in and design something if I need it done. Some WordPress Hosting plans don't allow you to have direct access to the code, which is a bit ridiculous if you ask me lol.

I have a handful of wordpress websites. Theme is very important when it comes to design your website. If you are building your website from the prebuilt theme, you should select the theme based on your niche. Free themes are good, however, premium themes are best.
Branding is very important, therefore, designing a logo and banner are very important. You should also choose a color theme based on your niche. However, when it comes to branding, I am a failure.
I am with namecheap and I believe namecheap hosting is one of the best in the market.

Free is always good! I mean maybe the paid designs are slightly better, but sometimes you have to use what you can afford at least initially anyway. It is one of the choices that we have to make as an entrepreneur.

Yeah, saving up on a nicer theme can really spell the difference between success and failure as the appearance alone can already draw in a decent audience and having a unique theme will help make your website stand out over the similar ones in your industry.

I am not really comfortable when the writing site is by Wordpress. Maybe I am not used to it but I have difficulty in navigating my way inside the site. There is one site that I write for and sometimes I couldn’t enter. When I inquired to the admin, I got a reply that the site was under maintenance. All right, I understand that. And then the menu was complete again. But after a few days, I couldn’t see my posts again and I could not make a new post. I checked on the site every once in a while and after a week or 2, I surrendered and just treated that site as a bad experience.

Well, of course, you need to know your target customer when you are about to build a website, especially on WordPress. You need to know who are the persons that have an interest in the website that you will be doing. If you are going to build a website, make sure it is eye-catching, user-friendly, and you need to make sure also the color blending of the texts and also the backgrounds.

The first three points are relatively important to me, but the last one is very important to me and to all webmasters! Because almost everything depends on reliable and stable hosting! Even such an indicator as the speed of loading a web page. You and I all know that Google doesn't like slow sites.
