5 eCommerce trends that will only get hotter as time goes on

One of the hottest website trends right now is getting into eCommerce and selling your own products as well as someone else's and labeling it as your own.  You can have a marketplace with other products and make a commission, or you can drop ship and still make a commission but people will think they're your own.  Either route you choose to go, you will make some profits and be happy you got into online marketing, but you need to know the hot trends that are likely going to get better as time goes on.

In this discussion, I'll be going over those 5 very trends for your eCommerce website that need attention if you want to be successful.

There's always an international market
A lot of people target customers in their local area or just their country, but you're just limiting your sales since you could actually sell to the entire world pretty easily.  Most people are worried about international shipping rates, but you can just use the USPS to do the package delivery and they will give you shipping rates to every country possible.

You could also go through WordPress and use WooCommerce with a USPS plugin so you don't have to calculate any sort of shipping since it will automatically be done for you.  If you can set this up, and you can because it's not difficult, you'll be able to easily ship across the world and expand the reach with your products or services 5 eCommerce trends that will only get hotter as time goes on

People will look beyond large corporate marketplaces like Amazon
A ton of people are abandoning websites like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart because they're bit chain stores online.  More and more people are going to the smaller shops that are equivalent to a Mom and Pop shop you would pass on your way to a big chain store if you were driving.

People are moving away from big chain stores online because they can't trust them as much as a smaller shop that focuses more in one on one time with their customers, unlike the bigger platforms that are more corporate.  Everyone is looking to be treated well, and these smaller niche sites are doing just that, which is why people are starting to flood them 5 eCommerce trends that will only get hotter as time goes on

Personalization is always a great thing
If you aren't sending out emails with the customers' name on them, knowing who they are before they contact you, and any other form of personalization there is, well you're just falling behind the websites that are.

Personalizing everything you can is key when you want to please everyone on your eCommerce website.  You can add their names to your newsletters, always have a welcome message when they come to your website that has their name in it, and pretty much anything else you can think of if you just know who they are before they get to your website 5 eCommerce trends that will only get hotter as time goes on  If you can personalize, you can capture a loyal customer, and they will always come back to purchase from you 5 eCommerce trends that will only get hotter as time goes on

Chatbots are on the rise and show no signs of slowing down
I've talked a few times about chatbots in the past, and they seem to be on the rise even now, so getting a chatbot working well on your website now will still keep you ahead of the curve when it comes to website design and marketing.

A chatbot is essentially an AI that has a conversation with your visitors so you can work on something else.  If your chatbot is programmed well enough, has the right responses every single time, and doesn't try to trick people into thinking it's an actual person, you'll see that your sales will get boosted drastically over time.

Fraud protection will only get better
More and more people are worried about getting scammed each day, which entices security companies to get online and protect more users for a monthly fee.  Most companies were charging hundreds a month, sometimes thousands, to use their services but that's a thing of the past since more people are searching for these services.

There are hundreds of services out there that help you protect your visitors, besides a basic SSL, and it will only increase the trust a user has on your website which usually turns into more sales 5 eCommerce trends that will only get hotter as time goes on

In conclusion
If you can focus on these 5 trends above, some being old and some new, you will be much more successful than the companies who aren't worried about hot trends.  You will build trust among your visitors much more than anyone else in the industry, making you the authority over time, and that means the most sales coming through your website than your competitors 5 eCommerce trends that will only get hotter as time goes on

I think that the Chinese market has pretty darn good grasp on the concept of international marketing. I’m originally from the U.S, but I moved to a European country not too long ago. I’m a big fan of online shopping, so I looked into getting some stuff shipped from old sites I used in the U.S. Not a single one of them shipped here. Then I looked into getting stuff shipped from the U.K, thinking it would be likelier since they’re in Europe. Still nothing. But Chinese sites like AliExpress? Perfectly fine with shipping to me.

So in the end, a lot of Chinese web shops are getting people’s business while others miss out thanks to their poor shipping standards.

Yeah, shipping is a very big problem with some online stores. I can remember having to wait for more than 2 months before I was able to receive a timberland boot I bought from one Chinese online store. There was a time when I got worried along the way with thinking if I had been scammed.

“There was a time when I got worried along the way with thinking if I had been scammed.”

Yeah, that’s one of the bigger issues with buying from Chinese companies. You can buy legitimate items for really decent prices—I’m talking the kind of prices that make you think it’s too good to be true—but you’re going to have to wait a long while before you actually receive them.

When I still lived in the U.S, I was spoiled by Amazon. I’d often pick next-day shipping thanks to my Amazon Prime account, so it was almost as quick as going to an actual store to get my item. But when buying from Chinese shops, it could take anywhere from 30-60 days.

A lot of the problem is that the smaller companies don't have the intelligence to ship overseas, even though they can use something like USPS and get it over there easily, they just don't offer it. Another problem with this is that some countries can't use specific payment methods, like PayPal, and that means the number of sales is limited due to people not being able to even purchase from certain stores.

I actually ran into this problem a while back when I was selling SEO services to clients. I only accepted PayPal, but they couldn't access it in their country, so I had to set up a 2checkout account and wait for it to be approved before I could start accessing the entire world. 2co accepts something like 85+ payment types or sources, including PayPal, which makes it extremely easy to capture a sale 5 eCommerce trends that will only get hotter as time goes on A little off topic, but I had my AdWords account targeting a worldwide audience and couldn't figure out why I wasn't very profitable. I was spending $10 a day and making $20, which profited me $10, and that's not a lot of money. I was talking to a bunch of potential customers and they said they didn't have access to PayPal, so I started thinking of ways to capture their payments, and 2co seemed like the best choice 5 eCommerce trends that will only get hotter as time goes on I already had an incorporated business, so the setup was easy, and after I made all my buttons I was then making $50 to $100 a day easily 5 eCommerce trends that will only get hotter as time goes on

So, if you're targeting international markets, make sure you can actually get paid by everyone who lands on your website and be sure you know how to do the shipping to get their products to them 5 eCommerce trends that will only get hotter as time goes on

The richest men in our country have Chinese origin and in fact the richest man named Henry Sy is pure Chinese that he has difficulty in speaking in our language. The Chinese businessmen are the experts in the industry that now we are seeing their success in the international scene. If it is not controlled by other parties I guess the Chinese will hold the commerce of the entire world with their savvy in business.

Hmm, seriously it's going to be hard knocking off Amazon from its ranking as the number one most used online store. There is actually lots of competition already but Amazon is still way ahead.

It's true that nothing lasts forever, even the life that we live isn't forever. I can still remember yahoo messenger how it came to be replaced. Such may happen to Amazon but it's not going to be any time soon from the way I'm seeing it.

Yeah I agree. Amazon has built its reputation and is now known worldwide. It is a trusted online shopping site. But sometimes it is also good to buy from smaller online shopping sites. Like me, I had known Amazon and I know that I can trust Amazon. But I prefer to buy from my local country online shopping site/app. By using or buying from my local country online shop, shipping time is more faster than if I buy from Amazon or other bigger online platforms. And I also like it that you can interact with the seller and it is nice that the seller is very responsive to your queries so you will get the right item and right order just like from the one online shop I have been using.

Exactly. It's how I feel about the reputation of Amazon when it comes to being the most popular and trusted online store in the world today. It's definitely going to be very hard to knock it off the spot that it's at the moment. I do agree that there will be competitions such like one from Aliexpress etc, it still going to take longer before Amazon would be put down.

Amazon was just about the only company I ordered from, back in the United States at least. When it came to shipping, the speed and quality was absolutely unrivaled. Not to mention that if the delivery service screwed up somewhere along the way—which let’s face it, happens a lot—Amazon always compensated me for my purchase.

The problem I’ve found myself in recently, though, is that I live in an area that Amazon doesn’t ship to. I’m in Europe, but my country isn’t in the European Union yet, so I think that’s a big issue getting in the way of amazon.co.uk shipping over here. Real shame really, they’re seriously the best for online shopping.

That has also been my experience with Amazon. I trust them because any time I've had an issue with an order, it's been rectified without hassle. Other online companies have felt like I was asking for a kidney if I needed help with a faulty product...but Amazon have always been really quick to fix any problems.

Your talking about Dropshipping which is being used by online stores in social media platforms like Facebook for a very long time. The process has similarities to Affiliate Marketing in part. In Dropshipping you must have your own store and then you'll register as a dropshipper of other stores both big and small and you're going to promote their products in your store and in your posts. You'll then get a commission on each sell. What's good about this scenario is that customers would order through you. So you'll know how many ordered a particular item and your income on the particular deal.

Having an Online Store is not for everyone. To tell you honestly I gave up on my online store because it was taking so much of my time corresponding to buyers and shipping their orders. Also I was into dropshipping and that added to the pressure. Usually dropshipping companies would send the wrong orders to customers and I would receive a lot of bad feedback and calls from erring customers. I had my store for 2 years and was earning about $15 a day when I decided to stop. At the end of the day the stress and time isn't worth the profit I'm getting.

I had one friend who experienced the same thing as you did with her own online store. She was into clothes but she never made any head ways with the online store business and she eventually had to stop. Maybe she was missing something back then and I considered not paying for ads affected her in not making any sales. It's never easy to own and run online store, it's why most people prefer going with affiliate marketing and get paid commission for promoting other companies products.

Yeah i had the same thought specially the shipping aspect. I had a problem on my store regarding shipping particularly the fees because they tend to effect my profit. Although there are options like additional shipping fee on products, but the problem is the overall price tend to be higher compared to competitors keeping my products on second choice.

The world market is boosting at the moment as we get to realize that people are looking for ways to connect with others from around the world on like minds. This is to show that the world is growing at a fast pace. Also, I have seen chat box being used on some websites and I think it is super cool as it is a way to show your visitors that you know what you are doing on the internet.

When I wantb to buy something I always choose the large stores like ebay, Amazon, Aliexpress and Alibaba. I have never bought anything on a small store. Your point "people will look beyond large corporate marketplaces like Amazon' surprised me. I will have to learn more about this.
I have to agree with your point on fraud protection. IN the recent times, online transactions have become as secured as offline transactions.

The truth is that people still use local small online stores probably because of proximity cases and sometimes these local small stores tend to offer more incentives to get more customers unlike those huge online store companies that aren't after begging anyone to purchase or not because they have millions of customers buying on daily basis unlike what small stores experience.

Branching out globally can be such a fantastic way to broaden your reach almost exponentially! In this day and age people seem to buy more and more from overseas retailers - and I think companies that don’t ship globally truly are limiting themselves!

The eCommerce trend of SSL is not only helping sales, but becoming a necessity! For instance, on Chrome it will soon be the case where non https:// sites will be flagged as dangerous. Anyway, I think that's overkill, but then again, only sites people are finding thru search would be affected. Anyhow, I don't think a lot of sites are getting search traffic anyway, but I could be wrong!

Good point about personalization - it has been proven time and time again that making your customers feel that they are appreciated will lead to bigger returns for your business. Even a simple change in your e-mails from "Dear valuable customer" to "Dear [actual name of your customer]" has been found to have a huge positive return.

I'm still active every now and then as a buyer as well as a user here on community discussions. But overall, at least for the time being, I'm not active as a seller anymore, this is why I long suspended my services. I was still getting orders every now and then and I hated the idea of canceling or talking a lot more time delivering them to my clients.

Over the years, yes, I'm pretty sure there are a lot of inactive sellers around. There are also a lot of sellers that don't log in often and only come back when they gain a new order, maybe something has to be done about sellers like this? Maybe sending them a reminder via email, informing them that constant activity on SC can be the difference between fewer orders and a constant stream of profit.
Cheers

I do agree with you on that a lot of people are getting tired of the big stores like Amazon and eBay. More and more people are choosing smaller shops because of several factors like better customer service and personalization. This is where small businesses can concentrate.

Having an online store is not easy and not for everyone to make. It needs a lot of time, effort, creativeness and honesty. Amazon is indeed doing such a great job in making their customers satisfied. My country also offers good service, on time delivery and quality products when it comes to online store. Some of these online stores have started targeting the international market. However, I think some of these stores need to focus and give attention to the 'fraud protection' of their customers as well.

I agree that people are now seeking a smaller store for their e-commerce activities. One friend said that it is difficult to be dealing with a giant because when there is an issue, the giant would just ignore you. Oh well, the sentiment is clear that some people have brushes with big websites like Amazon and Google. In order to get even, they will find an alternative that will take the place of the giant websites. Small stores are more considerate and understanding to the needs of their clients.

I agree that E-commerce is now a hot trend.I also agree that big stores like big corporations like Amazon are getting outdated. They mass produce while people are now looking for personalized products.I hate to go out and find that someone is wearing the exact same dress as I am.The customer service is getting even worse because they don't really care if they loose one customer. I disagree with chat bots, I don't really think they are the way to go. They actually sound like bots.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
@corzhens that is so true. A lot of people want to find the shops that they can easily confront the owners when things go wrong. With large corporations such a possibility is always near to impossible.

The chat bots I would need to research on how much of an investment someone will need. Is it even advisable for smaller sites where you need to build organic conversations with your audience.

E-commerce definitely one of the most popular trends these days and people who are able to do a decent business through it can make considerable profits. Often people are very scared of taking assertive steps to sell their products internationally and increase the potential of earning on a very large scale. If however they follow the tips given here in the post and try and venture in International markets then it will take their business at a very larger level and scale.

I like working on Magento. My site used to be on a different platform, but I contacted Amasty to switch to magento, and now I can buy plugins and extensions on the site of this company. For example, I recently bought this plugin https://amasty.com/admin-actions-log-for-magento-2.html to make it easier to work with data and store it. Also now I get information about all login attempts.
