The potential evolution of social media and what you should focus on

Just like websites and how they're built, marketing has evolved throughout the years, and that means social media platforms will play along and go with the flow as well in order to please everyone they can.  If a social media platform were to focus on large corporations first, they wouldn't live long enough to see any sort of seed money coming in, and that means the money is in the little guys like me and you.  Social platforms focusing more on the people will grow 10x more than companies who are setting up platforms with the idea they're going to just profit off of their users in one way or another.

Evolution is all around us online, just look at the search algorithms and how far along they've come since 1998, or look at how a website is built and the time it takes to get it live.  You can literally get a fully functional website up and running within a day using a domain registrar, WordPress, and a hosting account.  In the past, it would take much longer because you would have to custom code everything or edit a template for a week lol The potential evolution of social media and what you should focus on

Below are a few things I've been thinking about when it comes to the evolution of social media, and those things are:

1 to 1 relationships getting more attention
At the beginning of social media, there was a platform called Friendster that focused solely on building friendships and that's about it.  Now we have Facebook, which had the same idea, but it has evolved to become a platform for pretty much anything you need to do online.  You can chat with friends, customers, business partners, or you can watch tutorials in order to learn how to do something.  Social media platforms are getting too large, losing their touch with individuals, and that's why I think 1 to 1 relationships will get more attention over the next few years.

Social media platforms focus more on the overall picture and not the individual, and they're starting to take notice to people jumping ship, so they're starting to take steps towards a more personal approach to your profiles.

Pay for peace and quiet on social media
Some platforms may start charging a monthly fee so you don't see any sort of ads in your feeds or on the sidebars.  This is already a successful method in the mobile app industry, which makes billions a year, and people are paying to not see a popup or ad that disturbs their browsing or gameplay.

The price per month won't be anything crazy, because platforms will want more people to sign up and love the new ad-free services, so I assume it would be in line with a pricing like Netflix or Hulu and they will charge $10 or less each month.

Privacy will always be on peoples mind
When you talk about social media platforms, privacy is always within the top 5 notes of anyone making a new profile.  Over the years privacy has evolved for the better, and the individual making his or her profile is able to take more control over what they're posting, and they are able to actually delete it if they want instead of ghosting accounts or pictures.

Less addictive platforms proving quality atmospheres
A lot of bigger platforms have focused on building an atmosphere that pulls people back in, but now they're beginning to switch gears and make it more of a relaxed atmosphere in order to bring people in and keep them coming back on their own terms.  Social media addiction is an actual thing, and some studies say it's even more addicting than cigarettes, but I can't comment on that because I've never smoked lol The potential evolution of social media and what you should focus on

All mobile and no desktop type social platforms
Back when the bigger social media platforms started, there wasn't an option to go mobile since the smartphone was just a prototype and no one could actually access them.  This means that the big social platforms are sort of dual existence, one being a website and the other being an app, but newer platforms are starting to be solely apps and not relying on a website to run everything they have.

This is one of the biggest changes that I see coming, mainly because apps are getting bigger and better, and the cell phone usage across the world is increasing indefinitely across every demographic in the world.  More cell phones, more app only platforms, and more people not wanting to log into a website means this idea might come to a reality sooner rather than later.

In conclusion
If you can predict the future when it comes to anything online, you have a better chance to prepare, and this means you can be more profitable when these new features or platforms eventually get launched.  I would say to watch out for smaller apps who are gaining a lot of attention, because they may get acquired by larger companies trying to go solely app style platforms, and if you're already established on those apps then you have the traffic coming to you when they flood the gates of those apps The potential evolution of social media and what you should focus on

Ohhh you recalled so much of my memories. How difficult and time consuming was maintaining website back then. All manual work with a lot HTML and CSS learning. I spend so much time in learning Pearl to automate my websites at list something. Then PHP become popular and new scripts started coming up like crazy. I don't remember Friendster, but ICQ back then was pretty cool to get in touch with people from all around the world, and it was so exciting... Oh.. We evolved really much and fast...

So, about prediction... Sometime i think that desktop websites will not be necessary at all because mobile applications are taking over browsing of internet and etc., but somehow i still subconsciously that BIG screen TVs and Smart TVs will come up popular for web browsing, so i still keep updating my websites for mobiles and desktop versions regularly. Well who knows what the future will bring. To be honest i didn't expect so much evolution 20 years ago...

And about social networks... Well i see that much of people lately use Viber, WhatsUp and similar applications, so i am actually not sure about future of Facebook and similar platforms. As much it was exciting, i have feeling that people slowly cooling down with these kind of excitements like Facebook etc... We'll see The potential evolution of social media and what you should focus on

Right now the estimated number of mobile browsers have exceed the 50% level and has reached 60% and the number is still growing. That is owing to the convenience provided by the smart phone and the tablets. But maybe the number will stabilize at 70% because you cannot totally remove the computers in the scene. Desktops and laptops are used for complex applications like video and graphic editing, spreadsheet and other chores that can only be done using the computer which means the computer user will also be using it for their internet purposes.

I kind of question how likely it is for social media sites to focus on 1 to 1 relationships again. I think that the new standard for social media is a cross between feeling a 1 to 1 relationship with influencers, and then developing a relationship with the community who are fans of said influencer. This is what social media sites like YouTube and Instagram are kind of meant to be, while Facebook still very much allows you to maintain 1 to 1 relationships with friends and family.

What I’m getting at is, I don’t really see how that aspect of social media has gone away. It’s still there, just with a multitude of other options. That’s the way I see it at least.

Social Media is more becoming business centered nowadays unlike the old social media in which it's more one on one centered. Nowadays almost everything in social media is centered on business, investments, profit, services and stores. It's also evolving to become more business tuned.

This is because people are becoming aware that they can make a whole lots of money through social media. I have a pal that started a group, did some udner ground work which made him cool cash as he taught people some lessons on copywriting while they paid him for services rendered.

Yeah i agree, everything about social media nowadays if profiteering even if your not aware about it. There's a lot going on when you open a video, check a feed and even just in idle.

One gokd aspect of social media is that it is giving businesses the opportunity to interact better with their clients and that is quite okay. I always want to see a situation where people will get to understand that building a more personal relationship is one of the ways to work it around when we are using social media platforms to market products.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yup, getting into business with social media is just easy as a click. But now it's a jungle out there and there are always snakes in the jungle. Unlike before where people just socialize and have some fun, now they are likely there to sell or buy something.

I think social media has reached a saturation point. Yet, we see new social media apps and website being launched every now and them. Interestingly, most of the social media sites and apps are making huge money. These sites and apps are making huge money for their creators. We as consumers cannot use each and every social media sites because we do not have time to focus on such sites and apps. We have to choose a few and use them for our benefits.

You are very correct with the assertion of new social media sites and its application versions being launched on daily basis. The reason why such tread is growing is as a result of how effective these social media sites are when it comes to being linked with online business marketing and promotion. There are billions of people who are into one social media sites or another, and nothing stops them from checking out a new one to decide whether to switch to it or not.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

facebook has over 2 billion active monthly users. However, there are people who are not using facebook or dumping facebook for other social media sites. I think social media sites are not beein divided by age group. It is common to see older people using facebook and twitter and younger people more focused on instagram and whatsapp. Professionals are using linkedin whereas women are using pinterest.

Totally agree. Right now, I feel like there are hundreds of apps and websites, that have exactly the same goal, and work exactly the same way. So, why do I want to use the same repetitive platform? And also, who has so much time to spend in those apps and websites? Not to mention how annoying are the adds, emails, and notifications, they send back to you when you join them.

If any new social media network is still looking at setting up all desktop user site, it's sure as hell failed already because not many people still fancy using desktop or laptop computers to access social media sites. Most people who comprise more than 90% are using mobile devices for all their socal media uses.

I think it’s always important to keep up with the changing social media dynamics - there’s constant evolution of the platforms and knowing the best ways to communicate with clients through them is of utmost importance!

I agree that online marketing and marketing in general is evolving at the fastest rate. From traditional marketing that involves targeting, marketing these days has turned social. I feel that it is becoming more of an influencer type of marketer. People make purchases based on recommendations and popularity of a product as opposed to how good that product really is. Look at the rise of Amazon reviews, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. Even network marketing if done right can be very successful.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

fishbate
Yeah what you have mentioned is interesting and somehow true. I think it's a strategy to make use of influencer's to act as an advertiser. But it's really successful, nowadays tend to go for popular reviews and high ratings on products seen social media.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Social media right now is more on business, compare before, some of the business owners took advantages of this because it's very easy to advertise and promote the products. I think the social media like Facebook should become more aware about this because it might become the good place also to scam the people.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
As long as you can be able to write great sales copies, advertising about your products and services on social media has become that easy. One good thing also is that you get to see how far you are gaining from it as you are always in constant touch with those that are interested in what you've got to offer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
This is the reason why some business owners are able to pay for someone as their social media manager because Facebook is really the great tool to run business for advertising and to get customers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

fishbate
That's absolutely true, its more of a feel of getting a profit than just socializing. Unlike before that there are more post that are authentic and just on the social side. Its becoming a jungle out there...

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Facebook should isolate the business from the main social media to distinguish the legit business, but I know it's really hard to do that, because advertising is the main source of income of this Facebook and to do that, it means a lot of works.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

fishbate
I think they are doing some effort on this, they have some changes on the interface together with some additional features like the store icon. I know its not that convincing but i think its a good start.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
It's not really convincing, I agree with that. They allowed them to sell something without any identity and and important details about the sellers. This is the reason why there're a lot of scammers in Facebook.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Well facebook started or at least was created, to have personal access to friends and meet new ones. However, once they realized they could use for advertising, and all the money they could make, that app went to another level. So, eventually, it changed to this big mix where you can find literally anyone, for bad or good purposes, and personally, I think that's too dangerous, so I think they should split personal from business purposes there.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
I agree. They should make another Facebook for business which is completely separated from social media. So the seller should have the identity and all the important requirements to avoid scams.

It's so important as a company with a social media page to always reply to real inquiries or messages on your Facebook page. As you said, people are still looking for individual attention and interaction, and even a simple response to them when they message you will have a great positive impact for your business.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
This is the problem sometimes about the business in social media like Facebook. Business owners will not give all the details on their post and always reply the simple pm or private message, and then they're not able to reply all the inquiries.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

treecko142
This is the practice on Facebook because if they don't post all the details, then people will comment on the post or photo asking for price and other details, which will then bump up the post making it more visible for others. They do this so that they know which are the more popular products people are actually interested in, while at the same time bumping older posts for newer people to see. It's annoying, but it helps the business sell on social media (especially because the search and filter function of Facebook is limited compared to when having an actual online store).

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, that's right, but they should hire social media manager for that, who able to answer all the inquiries. They should expect the large volume of inquiries or better to give the link of their website.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NesMarcos
I strongly agree with this. I have noticed that business owners are hiring social media administrator to answer all concerns being raised or posted on their business pages. Hence, many are also like fly by night companies or businesses that do not care at all and just focusing on the profit that they can get.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

treecko142
Yeah, it can get difficult to manage social media pages by the owners themselves (especially if they're not tech-savvy), so they usually outsource through freelancers to manage their pages. Problem is, sometimes businesses do not value the importance of social media so they just look for the cheapest available social media managers, leading to poorer results.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NesMarcos
Indeed! There are numbers of freelance platforms to outsource social media administrators. Some are newbies and some are well-experienced. However, some online companies just go and hire for newbies where they can benefit more because they don't pay much unlike hiring well-experienced social media admins.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

treecko142
Yeah, sometimes it works out when you luck out on hiring a good newbie freelancer, but it's best to just invest in a good one with enough experience and not take any chances because they'll be handling your social media page which will be seen by most of your audience/customers, and any slip-up can cause backlash and negatively affect your business.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NesMarcos
Exactly! Good for the online business if they luckily hired a fast learner newbie. But in my opinion, it is best to hire a well-experienced social media admin because it is always better to be sure in any decisions making than taking risks.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

fishbate
That's really true, I have a friend that's very successful with his business and his first advice is attend all inquiries as fast as possible. He also says that a potential customers can bring thousands with him/her because of the domino effects of social media.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

treecko142
Yeah, people really appreciate a business that responds to inquiries quickly because it shows responsibility and commitment to service for your customers. Making sure that your customers are happy will make them your best form of advertisement.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NesMarcos
Certainly! Customers who are well satisfied with the customer support will build and increase trust. Though high competition among online companies is always there, by providing the best customer support team that gives prompt and accurate answers to all concerns will gain loyalty from customers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is a principle that I definitely endeavor to adhere to for my own business. I always reply, as quickly as possible to receiving a message - because I want my customers to feel like they can trust and rely on me, and I just think it's polite!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

treecko142
Definitely, communication is key and customers really appreciate it when the business responds quickly, especially since most of them expect it since you're already on the internet where messaging is instant.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
Yup, that's it. I always think that a business who doesn't reply fairly quickly isn't being run well - and then I am reluctant to purchase from them!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

"All mobile and no desktop type social platforms" I think it's all coming too soon. With the fast evolution of communication and online technology it's a fact that most people are switching to mobile apps for their primary means of communication. A lot communication based platforms has been obsolete since these apps where used.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, it's possible, and all the business will have their own app to become accessible. This one is very helpful for me, I can pay all my bills via app now, but this technology sometimes is the cause why there a lot of jobless people right now.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

fishbate
I'd like to think that technology has advantage and disadvantages, you may be right that technology is one of the reasons of joblessness but i think it is still not that significant. I like to view it as lots of opportunities but lack of knowledge.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NesMarcos
I agree. Looking at the negative side of these apps, since it's just a click away, it has no need for the companies to hire people for the job like operators because these apps are mostly powered by artificial intellect.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, That's right, this is the negative side of being in the technology era. Although, I admit that this app helps a lot to save our time, because in just one click all the transaction will be done.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NesMarcos
That's true. As we move along in an era where technology is moving drastically fast, it maybe beneficial to us and can also be a disadvantage to humankind.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

One part in your prediction is the use of mobile. I think mobile browsers are now dominating the internet and sooner or later it will be something like 90% or more mobile browsers which leaves the computer browsers as a small minority. For website owners, there should be a focus on the responsiveness of the website design to mobile browsers because even now, those websites that are not responsive are missing a lot of traffic. They have to shape up or ship out.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

fishbate
Your right about that, i think entrepreneurs and most industries knows that. But it may be higher on the e-commerce part. I think manufacturing and industrial networks will still be relying on computer based systems.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Agree, everybody tends to use mobile browsers nowadays. I would like to do it too, but honestly my phone can't keep up with all those new apps, they take a lot of memory. Also, I can't stand all the nonsense notifications they send diary, they can very distracting, and I don't have time to check all of them all the time.

Some people have no social media presence. They have their reasons. But folks like me jumped on the social media bandwagon even though it didn't stop to pick me up! The potential evolution of social media and what you should focus on

  • I like the 1 to 1 relationships I have been able to develop.
  • I don't want peace and quiet! Especially not if I have to pay for it! LOL.
  • Of course, privacy was and is important. That's why the stuff I wanted kept private, I kept it to myself!
  • I tried those “less addictive platforms”. They suck! LOL.
  • I know the move is toward all mobile, but I do hope the social platforms will always consider desktop and laptop users and maintain their dual existence. Believe or not! There's a bunch of old people out there who don't use a mobile but do use a desktop or a laptop and want to see pics of their grandkids and great grandkids! Have a heart!

The fast development of the technology will really be like a blink of an eye. Right now, I rarely using a desktop computer. I'm usually using laptop, mobile phones and tablet. Now, I think desktop user can only be seen in the cyber cafe and offices. Many homes are now using laptops because it is easier to use and can be brought anywhere.

I think that is very true. if one remains alert about the new trends in the ever-evolving market of online business and particularly the rapid transformations in the social media platforms and there use then one can be able to definitely use his knowledge to increase the potential of making huge profits from it. Use of the smartphones to browse the internet and also to access social media sites has increased exponentially in the last couple of years and is set to increase significantly in the coming years. if we are able to tap this change then we will definitely be able to gain more from it in the near future.
