Using same content but rank in google

I was looking my competitor and found that he is repeating content in website but still on top in ranking.

Is this a good strategy to rank your website?

I see its two comparison pages where he just change overview paragraph and then whole content is same in both blogs.

i.e I write 2 blogs (SEO vs SEM) and (SEM vs SEO) with same comparison details just change the introduction paragraph.

Google penalizes anyone who publishes duplicate content.

However, content that is slightly altered may not be flagged as duplicate content (initially) which is probably the reason why the articles, though they are remarkably similar, both rank high in search. It is not a strategy I would recommend because you are risking much for very little. Eventually one or both sites will be penalized for publishing duplicate content. You would have lost everything overnight.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the system would thought that this is a form of plagiarism since these are two different sites even though it's actually owned by one person only. This is not a good idea because Google is very sensitive with this kind of situations. Even if it won't be detected quickly, it will still for sure after a day or so which would waste your effort on both sites.

I think, only a few people can write effectively and efficiently especially when it comes to originally. I've seen a lot those instances but it was revised that make it different. But, still the idea is the same. I guess, it will take a while before google recognize or might not recognize it unless it is being reported. Plus, it needs to have enough evidence to prove it's a copied one or which one owned the original write-up.

You can't rank by reposting old content. But if you add some new content to your old content then Google would think that it's a new one and that will help you rank.

I think it is a good strategy to rank high fast, but not a very good one to keep you there. Besides the fact that Google can at anytime penalize you, your readers and site visitors will soon learn of your duplicity. They just might not find it funny, and you risk losing them and all you've gained so far. The right way is often slow, but success that comes with it endures.

Do not encourage yourself to do the same thing just to be on top. It is better to be successful and you are doing the right thing. Unlike what he is doing that creating duplicate contents just to be on top. Just do what you think is right and success will be on your way.

This topic is a good thesis for the SEO specialists who say that duplicate content will harm your site. Now here is an actual example of a site with duplicate contents that looked obviously done with intention. What has Google done with the duplicate? If it is true that duplicate content can harm the site then the ranking should have been drastically lowered. Now we are learning that some SEO talks are just myths.

If your content is duplicate then according to Panda algorithm google can ban your website. In this case your website your website will not be rank on google search engine so you want ranking for your website you have to continuously upload fresh content for your web-page.
