Starting small with your own marketing agency is your main priority

A lot of people want to start their online marketing agency because we always portrayed as super profitable.  Sure, some of these agencies have full teams of people and are doing millions each year, but that's not how it all starts.  You need to start slow, hit little goals, and gradually build over time, so you don't burn out and overwork yourself too quickly.

In this discussion, I'll go over a few things that I've learned to do with my agency, and any website for that matter, when I started.

Don't have big goals right away
When I started, I had a main goal of making $100,000+ per year in net profit.  That means after I paid for everything, even my taxes, I would have 100k sitting in my account.  When I started with this goal, I quickly realized it wasn't going to happen right away because no one wants to work with a nobody, but over time I could gain some momentum.

Iron out your details over a few months
You will launch your website, do some marketing, and always be tweaking every little thing on your site that you possibly can.  You need to think of your website as never finished, and you always need to iron out the little things as time goes on.  Don't do all the work in one day because you'll likely get burnt out and miss a few things that may not come back up for months down the road.

Go over each page of your website about once a month and see what can be edited, tweaked, or redesigned to make your business look even better than it did before.  Some of my pages look amazing now, but they were pretty simple when I started, and they look much better because I gradually tweak them over time with new design ideas and tweak my content flow on the pages.  My conversions usually increase after a full site tweak, and we all know that's not a bad thing lol.

Gradually streamline your business
When you start, you will likely have a basic template of a website up and running even if it looks amazing and has all the bells and whistles.  What you'll now be doing is streamlining everything you possibly can so you're sure anyone that comes to your website has a good time, has some info captured, and eventually signs up with you.

Most people won't get this right the first time, so don't be too harsh on yourself if you're one of them.  Launch your website, get some clients, and work on their campaigns as well as your site over time.  Your site is a money maker, so treat it with care and be sure everything flows well.

Automate what you can
Again, you won't be able to get this all done in a day because automation isn't something you think of right in the beginning.  After you get some clients on board, you will want to hire a content writer and maybe bring on some people to do SEO for you.  Yes, you're an online marketing company hiring people to do SEO, but this is what we all do because we're busy with our clients' sites lol.

You'll want to do the important stuff like generate leads, proofread content submissions, design the site if you can, and handle any money coming in or out of your accounts.

Find local startups and small businesses
Local startups and businesses will likely be your bread and butter for a while since you're a startup yourself.  You will be able to convince these people to pay you a monthly fee to do online marketing and SEO since you're "right down the street" and can go to their office if you need to talk with them.

You don't need your own office to sign on local businesses because you can always say "We stopped using an office three years ago because we have remote workers across the world and only two employees ever came in."  I said this to a bridal business, and they responded with, "I wish I could do that!" lol.

In the end, it's not difficult to start an online marketing agency since you don't need any certifications.  You can set up a website today and start saying you're an agency, but you won't get rich right away.  You need to get your first reviews, keep building up your clients websites, and become larger as time goes on.  You can hit my 100k a year goal if you stick with it, but it might not come around until year 2 or even year 5.  The more work you put into this, the more profit you can obtain over time.  Get people to sign up for monthly retainers, and you will have a nice income stream building up Starting small with your own marketing agency is your main priority

Yes, patience is key when building any sort of website or business but it's especially needed when you're trying to build up a client list.

People want to see that you're successful, professional, and responsive before they ever think of signing up. So you need to focus on the main factors of a business first before you ever try to find a client. Make sure you can respond very quickly via email or live chat, carry yourself as a professional, and the success will follow Starting small with your own marketing agency is your main priority
