I think mindfulness definitely helps you keep calm. I have found that people who keep their head calm can easily get out of such things. And though this sort of routine requires a lot of practice. It can make you lot better in terms of the practicing things. You can also use the mindfulness songs and the books in such case.

It is natural to overthink situations sometimes, its just your imagination playing with you. Many times I randomly start playing perfect scenarios/worst scenarios in my head and as crazy as it may sound, I kind of think of this as a short temporary escape from the chaos of reality and it either lifts my spirits or puts me in deep anxiety. I usually refrain from negative thoughts but if I do think negatively, I always remind myself in the back of my mind to just snap out of it. I listen to music or sing, watch a movie for a while maybe. I also watch TV to take my mind off of my thoughts.

Some vouch for meditation and Yoga as a way of calming down and finding your middle balance. Well, I don't meditate or practise Yoga as I don't believe in the origin. What I do to calm down in times of stress, is to go somewhere quiet, preferably a public park with a water-view. I sit for hours, look at the water and listen to some soothing music. If I am not able to get away, I just lie down in my room.

I know what you mean by troubling thoughts. That is thinking negative. Whenever I would have worries like that, I am lucky to have a husband who always gives me assurance. When I had a case in the office that caused my one day suspension, my head was swirling with speculations. With the soothing words said to me, I had reason to think positive. Now I have developed that habit of thinking in a positive way.

This is true. Life is not easy. And there are always some problems coming at us from various direction. And this means you can see that being calm is lot harder. And that takes a lot of time to normalize. You have to understand that being calm here takes a lot of strength. And that's not something you can easily manage. So learn how to be calm in that context.

All you need to do is to convert those thoughts into positive thoughts and try as much as you can really make use of your time instead of thinking that much. I don't give negative thoughts space in my life for I always use positive thoughts to take it off almost immediately.

These troubling thoughts always come to me, at night when I'm in bed. Seriously, why do they have to appear right when I finally want to get some sleep, and rest like a baby? Well, those are one of the causes of my insomnia, because I can't stop thinking about them once and again. So, how do I stop them? By changing them into positive ones, and trying to give myself a dose of hope and strength. I don't know if that's the best way, but at least is giving good results so far.
