How well do you prepare yourself to write?

You'll find that most writers do not just jump into writing a piece and in fact there is a lot of preparation that takes place before any writing happens. And, I know for my readers out there that a content that contains more detail and explanation is always more preferred. With that being said my question is what do you guys do to prep yourselves for the writing process, to produce great content?And, how many sources to you grab quotes from and/or is reading a part of preparing yourself to write? Does reading go hand in hand with your writing preparations does it help to read a lot?

It really depends on what I'm doing.

If I'm just writing a comment like this one, I'll just go with the flow and answer it

If I'm posting a tutorial here on the Community Discussion I'll take my time and get screenshots of what I'm talking about in order to convey exactly what I'm talking about. This way when people start to do what the tutorial is talking about, they will fall on the same pages and understand the screenshots I took. It's like holding someones hand through the whole process so they don't get lost lol.

Now if I'm writing an ebook and it's on a specific topic, I will take my sweet time and lay everything out before I even start typing. Usually I'll write down an index of what is going to be covered and then I'll play with the order a bit so that people aren't jumping all over the place in terms of experience and knowledge. An example of this would be if I were writing an ebook about how to build a house. I wouldn't start with how to do the wiring and then skip to how to put the roof on because it doesn't make sense. You start with the basement or anchors and then to the framing. If it's not in order, people will begin reading and feel like they're lost as soon as you begin skipping around

After I'm done writing something that is a few pages long, or longer, I'll let it sit for 24 hours and come back to read over it again. Usually I can find some grammar errors, grammar errors or find some things that just don't make any sense lol

Yea I guess you are right razzy and it does all depend on the content that you are writing. I know for comments I just go with the flow as well but when it comes to a more detailed piece then I take my time to find facts and evidence to support my piece. And, I do tend to see a lot of people that just jump around from experience and knowledge I think that what you have going on with your index is a great way to organize your piece it is a smarter way from what I see

Yes I agree with Razzy completely that it depends on the type of content. For me it also depends on which website I am writing for. When it comes to my addiction website I already know most of what I want to share with my readers. Also a lot of what I share there is about my experiences as an addict so it is not like I have to research anything.

When I am writing for one of my websites I usually plot out an outline of what I am going to write, then I fill in the gaps. I very rarely just write.

I have research thoroughly any topic I want to write on,I don't mind calling experts on the subject matter to get the real information. I believe one put out there must be accurate and up-to-date.

I make sure my network service is functional and that is it.

All I need is a laptop, internet access and good coffee. I usually do some research, making sure I'm accurate on what I'm writing about.

It totally depends on the topic I write about. If I write about something I have the knowledge about, then I'll usually just start to write. Write, write and write some more. Until I have a few pages full of content. When I've come to that point, then I'll go back and re-write and polish everything. In case I write about something I don't have all the knowledge of, or if I write about something I don't have experience at all from.. Then I usually spend a few hours researching.. After a couple of hours, then I'll start to write and use the sources in my writings to it's easy for anyone to understand it all.

However, before I publish anything, no matter if I have the knowledge/experience or not, I usually spend at least a few hours reading it myself a couple of times.. I often publish the content one or two days later.. Just so I feel good about it.

As I had posted in another thread, I have a ritual before I write. First is the outline which is a list that contains items or bits of information about the subject matter that I will write. I read and imagine the outline if it is substantial with information and if the information is interesting. If not, I have to research more on the topic. This outline is the framework of my article so I don't start writing unless I am already satisfied with the outline.

If I am well versed on the topic then I can't confidently write about it. There is no need for me to make any research. However, if the topic seems to be complex then I usually try to research more about it. I also plan how much time I have to spend on research and to write the article. I also make sure that my work is of high quality.

Currently, I have a $120 ebook contract. My client is paying me to develop an ebook on a certain subject. It has been almost a week since I have been awarded the contract, however, I have not started working on the book yet. I am doing a research for the book. Research is very time-consuming. You need to find the right resource materials. Once the research is done, I will take important notes. I will develop chapters based on these notes.
I have developed a table of contents of the book. I will develop contents on each topics.
