How important is a websites speed?

I have always thought that website speed was one of the most important things out there as far as SEO and user retention goes, what do you guys think? Would you stay on a website and wait for it to load if it did not load almost instantly?

Website speed has become hugely relevant in today's SEO. Google admitted website loading speed is an important ranking factor.
So if your webpage loads in 3 seconds but all of you competition loads under 1 second for example, you are pretty much out of the picture and you won't rank for those relevant keywords you want to get traffic from.

So yeah. Keep your code clean, have a good hosting and optimize everything you can because speed is the name of the game in modern SEO.

Hi NattyFried thanks for your question. As per as I know website speed does not impact on SEO result. Though there has few contention somebody thinking website speed impact on SEO result and other thinking no impact on SEO. That another issue. If website speed does not load properly, you may missed huge resource like website traffic. If any visitors faced the slow loading site or content, he may leave website immediately. Even if your website looking very nice or very high content. It does not matter. And visitors will discourage to visit internet content or further back to site. So, if you missed visitors due to slow loading site, that should not be good for any sense.

I won't run away if a website doesn't load within a split second no, but if it takes a while I will leave. There have been some websites that I have found really interesting and I wanted to spend some time surfing around but it took a long time for each new page to load and then I give up because it will take way too long.

In this respect I think a website load speed will count towards SEO in a way because for example if your bounce rate is high then that will affect your SEO. Likewise if people spend a long time on your website and visit a lot of pages this will impact your SEO positively.

I would not say that website load speed is one of the most important things when it comes to SEO but I am sure that it does make a difference.

Yes! I do the same, Google realized this and made it a top priority. It's all about user experience in the end and Google wants to provide the best websites in its search results.

Oh I really didn't know it was a top priority. It just made sense to me that it counts towards SEO for the reasons that I already mentioned. Thanks for clarifying. I have honestly heard so many contradicting things about this topic.

I believe website speed is very important. I'll provide an example: I play an online MMORPG, and sometimes the server lags so bad that you can't play it for hours or days at a time. The owners of the MMORPG are aware of this, but they don't do anything about it and players just stop playing during the awful lag. Now, if this was an online business that sold products or services than it is very bad for business. You'll want your website to run as fast as possible, so you can process as much orders as possible. If the site was slow your businesses profit would be down.

A lot of the times, most businesses are typically fast in regards to speed, and are hosted with a reputable hosting company or they purchase their own servers, and datacenters like Facebook, or even Google.

I have found that the speed of the website is important only if the user is going to click on ads or if they are buying something from you. If they are just freeloader coming to site and troll in comments. I don't think there is any need for the speed gain for such websites. I don't think it help much in such cases. You have to understand that speed gain is overly saturated with the demand it doesn't help much.

Search engines give must importance to site loading speed when ranking the websites. Sites with poor loading speed are likely to downrank and sites with higher loading speed are likely to be ranked high. Low loading speed also increases your bounce rate. Bounce rate is someone lands on your website and immediately leaves the website. People do not have time to wait for the site to load.
Slow loading site also loses traffic.

Website speed is absolutely critical. Some people talk about speed because of the ranking implications. However, the whole reason it became a ranking consideration is user demands and expectations. The slower the site, the more likely visitors will bounce. The goal of Google and other search engines is to provide the best results. If a visitor is clicking on a result, them immediately returning to search results to select another option, then that website is not worthy of the rank and Google is likely to adjust it if there is a trend.

Site speed is very important if you don't want users passing by your site.Personally, I hate sluggish sites that take ages to load I don't repeat it twice I move to the next alternative blog.Bloggers should always test their site to find out it loads faster.Even ranking of a slow site would be reduced not when they're faster loading site,

I may be guessing but I think the speed of display of the web page does not matter much in SEO since search engines are after the tangible items like content. Speed is somewhat intangible since it depends on so many factors like the hosting provider or even the kind of network that the website is in. But with regards to traffic, the speed of display or access is a factor to reckon with because the user can be turned off when the web page takes time to display in full.
