Promoting your content after you finish publishing it!

How do you promote your articles once you finish writing them and you click that "publish" button?
Promoting your content after you finish publishing it!
I'm going to share with your guys some of my favorite ways of promoting articles and content in general. Because you also need to promote it, my rule goes like this: if it took you 4 hours to write a good high-quality article then at least double that about of time on promotion!

1. Build an email list and send emails to your readers informing them another quality article was published;
2. Most of the emails you will send won't be opened, so be sure you have a follow-up to remind them, maybe include a snippet of the important things you talked about in that article;
3. Customize your email signature to include a link to your latest posts, this way no matter who you are talking with, you basically promote your latest article.
4. Start conversations of big communities type websites, like: reddit, inbound, growth hackers, boxnutt or bizzsugar;
5. Search for questions online you can answer with your new article. You can do this on active online forums or Q&A websites like Quora;
6. Social media - there isn't much I need to explain here, just make sure your new article is all over the social networks!
7. Publish your link in every profile for every website that allows links in their profiles, never miss such an opportunity, every time you register for something, have a look at their profiles, chances are you have the option to leave a link somewhere.
8. If you have a team or people working for you in one way or the other, tell them to also promote the new article you've written!

You are right, social media has a tremenduos amount of users and a well placed link / article can bring you both traffic and popularity. What is the most important thing, in my opinion, is what you do after you bring the traffic to your website. I've seen websites with a lot of interesting content, well written and easy to read but with a horrible theme and a lot of intrusive pop - ups.
I can understand one pop up or even two but when you have 10 it's too much.
Everything should be optimized and balanced.

Thanks Cristian this is an awesome topic and I totally agree with you. It is amazing how many people write their content and sit back and expect loads of visitors!

Not only does social sharing increase visitors to your site but it also counts as social shares and increases your ranking, in fact so many things you do after publishing your content will help it to rank better.

Gaining backlinks to individual pages as well as your main url is important too. I have seen that a lot of people share their main url all over but don't bother to promote their pages or posts!

These are all very good points Chris thanks. Sometimes people think because their work is great that they don't need marketing. I have talked to so many prospective clients that tell me they don't need marketing because the work they do is so good that it draws people to them. I try and level with them explaining it to them like this. If you create something in a workshop by yourself and nobody is around how will people know about it? You could have created the next big thing but its in your workshop and nobody can see it. Every time i use this they are like "oooohhhh ok makes sense". I am glad that you shared this so those types of people can read this and learn that having good talent is not everything.

Is the email still effective nowadays? I have seen its benefit when there was no social media yet. That was the time when the email was the primary communications in the internet. But with the potent social media now, I guess it is the best venue for promoting your interest. What’s good in social media is that it is free to anyone. And if you have an active account then you can at once do your marketing chores. Maybe you can post once a day with the link of your blog or article and for sure, your connections will see it.
