How I got 7 interview invites in just one day with LinkedIn

Because I've been building my LinkedIn profile over the last couple of months today I wanted to test and see how good my profile actually is in the eye of potential employers, and not any employers, digital agencies located in the US!

But before we can go into the technical details here are a few of the things I've done obtain a complete and attractive LinkedIn profile:

  • Filled up my profile to reach "All Star" strength level - this means I've completed almost every section detailing everything I've done in my professional career from experience details to certification and volunteer work.
  • Made sure I got some direct recommendations from my past and current managers, this can be done fairly easy, you just have to ask!
  • I've published a LinkedIn article showing off my skills in writing and SEO as well as my sense of humor.
  • I've added around 2000 connections, most of them being people in top positions (decision makers).
  • Uploaded a good professional looking avatar of me.
  • I've implemented a kick-ass professional background that reflects my SEO skills.
  • I've changed my LinkedIn Profile URL into a custom one (without the numbers at the end).

After all, this was set and done I wanted to do a little experiment. How many real interview invites could I get in just one day?

So I did the following:

1. Went to LinkedIn Jobs section:

Set up the keyword as SEO targeting the US. Make sure you sort the results by post date not by relevance, you will get the latest job postings and getting your CV submitted first is really important when it comes to getting a fast response and interview invitation.

2. I ignored the agencies and jobs openings that needed me to leave LinkedIn to submit an application on their own website. Instead look for the once that offer LinkedIn profile applications.

Do this for every job position result that interest you and was posted less than two weeks ago.
The result will blow your mind, I was astonished:

7 agencies contacted me for an interview! Unfortunately, I will have to apologize for wasting their time because I'm not located in the US but I glad I've found this trick, it can be applied for any job openings near you without breaking a sweat.

Oh wow, this is incredible Cristian. Thank you so much for sharing this, I am absolutely astounded at your results.

Truth be told I didn't even know you could apply for jobs directly on LinkedIn. I was aware that it is a social network aimed at professionals and that it can help you get jobs but I didn't quite understand how it went about that.

Your post has made this very clear. I am going to show this post to my husband and explain to him. He works in Human Resources, so this might be a good way for him to find people to employ when there are positions open. It might take a huge amount of pressure off of him.

In addition I can maybe keep an eye open for him for possible positions in case he wants to move jobs...

Yes! Everybody in HR should use LinkedIn! Just make sure the area you living in also uses LinkedIn. For example here in Romania LinkedIn recruiting is still in its infancy.

This is something I do to find clients, but a bit more advanced How I got 7 interview invites in just one day with LinkedIn How I got 7 interview invites in just one day with LinkedIn

Adding the heads of companies will always look good when someone checks out your profile. Another good thing that comes from it is that these people may just contact you directly on LinkedIn after you become a connection to them How I got 7 interview invites in just one day with LinkedIn

I've had plenty of headhunters contact me because they found me through the LinkedIn search results, but these are typically worthless messages because they can't really do much with me since I don't have a degree. The people I look to work with the CEO's and Presidents of the companies. I'll usually send a message here and there after I get connected with someone who is high up at a company and just introduce myself. I won't pitch to them and say why they need my services, I'll just plant the seed of what I do and I'll try to carry on a basic conversation about either LinkedIn or their niche. People love talking about themselves so you can ask extremely basic stuff like "How's the weather been out there? It's absolutely miserable here". After about 10 conversations with these people, you can then see if they need your services. I say 10 because they will have their guard up for a while after you're a connection. They won't want to hear you pitching to them until after they know about you. You'll basically be a digital friend to them and they'll be more willing to hear what you have to say and they could even share your website or business with their friends, family or even their LinkedIn connections How I got 7 interview invites in just one day with LinkedIn

I might just try out your method to see if I can get some good contract work from companies looking to build an SEO and Marketing team How I got 7 interview invites in just one day with LinkedIn I'm sure there won't be many, but the ones that are interested will usually sign up if I contact them and treat them like a friend. Oh, and they'll get a discount to sweeten the deal How I got 7 interview invites in just one day with LinkedIn

Yes! This can also be used as a client hunt for freelancers. Because you already know they need people doing certain services and by doing your friend thing it will be a lot more easier.

I wonder if this works for other professional fields like engineering or similar? I gather also I need to use the premium one? will it be possible to get hired from linked in and work abroad?

Linknd is a internet application where you can create your account and attach your resume in it. There are times that people will add you because you and that person might have same work experienced or you can add them vice versa. You can also apply job in here but I dont think using premium or I dont know if theres any would help you to hire immediately. It still on process and will be based in your skills and experiences. You can apply also overseas using this site.

I have linkedIn account, I have just about 300 connections on LinkedIn. I have used LinkedIn to promote my web contents, however, I have not used LinkedIn to find jobs. This is something I need to consider.
LinkedIn is a social networking site for professionals. You can find many job opportunities. However, I am yet to use this LinkedIn feaature.

A big congratulations to you. I am wondering how you would feel and what are the outcomes of the 7 interviews you had from Linkdn. Hoping you had a good news from it.

I have been receiving invites to LinkedIn from people I do not really know and it is expected to be ignored. But I have read about LinkedIn that it is a good way of establishing connection to professionals. I just don’t know why I am not interested at all maybe because I have a full time job in the office and that my freelancing is part time only. Perhaps the connection I am talking about will be important when I go full time in my freelancing work.
