When you say cutting down on the prices that means a cut on the profit and it will affect the revenue of the business. Giving discounts is one of the easiest and most common way of pampering the customer but it doesn’t work all the time especially when the competition is also doing the same. When the fight for discounted prices heats up then your business may be losing profits and you may end up in bankruptcy.

I feel like many small businesses fail already at your first point because they don't realise how important proper research is.

A good research and establishment of your target audience doesn't only drive more traffic but it will also have good conversion rates and save you money when it comes to advertising since you will be targeting the right crowd.

I agree with the research aspects fist. These are just some of the important aspects to running any kind of business. Even with excellent market research, the majority of businesses still fail in 5 years time. I think this goes for online as well as offline businesses.

Excellent Mike I am currently looking at doing paid advertising across different social media sites. I am working over some of my sites and some of my old posts to try and see if I can do more with the SEO. As I do feel some my old blog posts don't get enough attention so I need to work on those.

It's the same for a lot of blogs and sites I guess. They will have the same issue as you where some of their old posts will just not get the same attention as some of your newer posts and content. I don't see this as too much of a problem because it may be good that your newer content gets more attention and users reading it compared to your other content.

Paid advertising is great but you need to make sure that you do it properly because if not you will only end up wasting a lot of your funds and not increasing the exposure of your business. Do some research before to find out what things interest your target market and try to find out who your target market is exactly. By doing this you can take advantage of targetted advertising and only have your ads shown to those that might actually use your business.

I think building email list of your own clients and business takes time. People are more addicted to social media these days. And for this to properly work it's reasonable to make use of the social media ads and the post. You can also make use of the email lists in that case. I guess though it's easy to use the list for building clients. I think it takes years for making such reliable database. Also making decent money out of the lists is not going to be any easy. So people have to take their time and do the needful based on that part.

I have a small dairy business. I sell milk and milk products. The best way to advertise your local business is the word of mouth. I invite people to see my business and have a taste of the products I am selling. This will help me spread the information to my target costumers. I also advertise my business in local papers. Sadly, my business is staggering, it is not performing well. I have not taken my business online because my target costumers are locals who do not look online to find milk products.
I also have an online business. It is an affiliate store that sells affiliate products, mostly womenwear.

I think you cannot go wrong with social media. It is easier to connect to people especially if you already have an established network of friends and followers. All you need to do is to post a promotional item for your business and there will be an audience for it. In small local business, the focus on the people in the vicinity since they are the most convenient to be customers. Delivery will not be a problem with the cost and the duration as well. And the best advantage is that you can meet your customers personally.
