can we earn a living through blogging?

I have been writing online since 2010. I lunched my blogs and websites in 2015. Since then I have devoted in publishing articles on my blogs and websites. In have monetized my blogs and websites through Adsense and couple of affiliate networks (Amazon, LinkShare, Commission Junction).
How much I am earning through my blogs and websites. Zilch.
If there had been no writing jobs for me, I would never survive. My question is can we actually make a living through blogging. In other words, can we pull hundreds of thousand visitors and encourage them to check the ads and affiliate products (naturally of course)?

I have been writing on Hubpages for two months now.I have not yet earned anything but I believe it will take some time for me to start generating income.I think one can earn money from blogging if they put in the requisite time and effort. It takes anywhere from one year to three years to start making money. You need to create great content. This includes the use of graphics, images, text and videos in your blogs. You also need to establish an audience. Then you need to monetize the blog using advertisements(ads) ,product promotion, affiliate marketing etc.

I am on hubpages. I have been there since 2010. I received my first payment only in 2013. Can you imagine 3 years to receive payment from a site where I was working 2-3 hours in a day. However, good thing about hubpages is I am still earning from articles that were published 5 years ago. You may earn on hubpages, but you cannot earn a living. I tell this from my experience. Apart from hubpages, I have written for numerous writing sites, some sites never paid me and some sites were shut down. Do you remember, Squidoo, Helium and Bubblews?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jeffzod
Yes, I do. Unfortunately, many of those sites were shut down.I work hard on my articles.I recently I have started writing hub recipes. You can follow me http://hubpages.com/@jeffzod to check out my articles. I agree with you that one can not make a living from one site only. You need to have numerous sites in various niches to make it.

@jeffzod, instead of publishing on Hubpages, why don't you create your own recipe blog. Yes, it will be difficult to earn views and revenue, however, once you manage to pull decent traffic, you will learn better than on HubPages.

I am writing for Hubpages too, for 8 years, coming to 9 years already. I managed to get my first payment 4 months after I started writing for Hubpages, 1 hub per day for a month. Honestly, I have stopped writing at Hubpages for 17 months but they paid me $52 for my earnings of 14 months which I wasn't active at all. That is the best part about it.

That's the beauty of residual income. You work today and will continue to reap the benefits for many years to come. I am earning from my hubpages articles that were published in 2012. bad thing about publishing on the sites like hubpages is with the same about of work, you could have your own website and own revenue stream

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

How about you delete you hubs at HUbpages and moved them to your own site?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
I have not moved my hubpages articles to my site. When I created my sites, my primary aim was to move my hubs to my site. However, after publishing dozens of articles on my sites andd promoting day and night, my site could not generate even a dollat where as my hubs were making me around $50 every month on hubpages. That's why my articles are still on hubpages even though I no longer go to hubpages.

Heard about this too. And I got discouraged. Not that I don't want the small amount of money, but the way their payment works. I understand though that that's just the way it is and how it works for them. But I really can't.

There can be a long debate on how much money is a good money? For some people, if they are earning enough for blog maintenance, they will consider it a good money. For other people, they need some profits to consider good money. If ad networks and affiliate networks are the only monetization method for you, it is really difficult to make "good amount" First of all you need high traffic and you need ti every day. Secondly, the high traffic should convert. The visitors must check your ads, products, and services. It takes time to get established.

I am still at Hubpages , yes I still earn from there but not for a decent earning. I hate Bubblews because it still owes me USD$400. I learn from my experience that old sites are still the best. Blogjob and Literacybase had stopped paying too. yet, Hubpages still pays me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Hubpages was established in 2007, it is still paying the writers. Squidoo was established in 2005, but hubpages acquired squidoo in 2015.Hubpages survived whereas many sites collapsed because hubpages has a reliable revenue system. It earns from its own advertising program and Adsense and shares the revenue with the publishers. Hubpages is paying the writers as much money as their articles are earning.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes it will take a longer time to start earning. I had started to write for Hubpages for the past 9 years. Then I started to earn money after 4 months, with 50 hubs. Adsense and Hubpages Earning Programs are two earning sites helped me to earn money. Furthermore, until now, I am still earning from there.

I had enthusiasm to write in hubpages. I got problems getting GoogleAdsense which made my enthusiasm die out. Now I have adsense but I have lost interest. What I earn there is peanuts.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
One of the major drawbacks of writing on hubpages is you need adsense account in order to earn. If you do not have an adsense, you can apply through hubpages and approval rate is high. Earning on Hubpages depends on search traffic. If you are not getting search traffic, your have very low chance of earning. Another option for earning is through amazon affiliate marketing. If you are a good afffiliate marketer, you can make pretty good money from amazon product sales.

I have come across several discussions about Hubpages and I admit that I don’t exactly know the mechanics. But as you said that you have been writing for 2 months and you don’t get anything then you probably need to think about it. The 2 months could have earned you more than $200 already in a standard freelancing work or perhaps even more. Try some other sites that pay for writing, there are lots of them around.

How come? Weren't those ads working? And you also have affiliate links from other major online selling markets. I'm quite shocked! I was expecting you'd have some revenues because you have made a lot of articles. :/

Having ads and affiliate products on your blogs does not mean you are earning a big money. You might get a lot of visits, however, if the visit does not convert, in other words if the visitors do not click ads or buy products, you will be earning nothing. Some of my articles are pulling just about 400 views in a day. I am not dissatisfied with the total traffic on my blogs, however, the number does not mean anything if it does not convert.

Of course, you can earn a living purely through blogging. Just type it into Google and see how many manage to do it! It's all up to you though. You have to stand out from hundreds of other blogs - that is done by producing unique, creative and high-quality content nonstop. You have to post almost every day to keep the readers interested. Then you use adds and affiliate marketing and earn money. I am surprised that you aren't making anything with the things you've listed in your post. Have you ever tried using SEO?

I write on evergreen topics. I regularly update my articles. I write on unique topics and always avoid heavily saturated topics. All of my contents are optimized for search engines. I do onpage SEO as well as offpage SEO. I use long tail search term as my title, I use meta tags. There is nothing that I have not tried.
I get more traffic from the US (US traffic makes more money). However, my problem is conversion. I earn through Adsense, however, the earning rate is so slow that I will making just $100 in one year.

Make a living is a strong term. But do you think it's possible to earn a side income? Say 100-400 dollars a month? I have just got into blogging and I always wonder if it's possible to earn some money even if it's a small amount like that.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes, it is possible to earn side income through blogging. I have been doing that since a long time. Since I am a freelancer and I don't have any regular job, I trying to make blogging my full time career, however, I am unable to do that.
If you have good writing skills and have knowledge on SEO, you can easily make $100-$400 a month through your blogs. However, you should try various monetizing methods not just adsense or other ad partners.

Of course we can make living through blogging and not only a living we can make a fortune through blogging. I know many millionaires that made their wealth solely through blogging. What we need to put into consideration is picking a niche that one is so good in and give the contents depending on the targeted audience. Making the audience click on or check the ads on the sites as to do with writing strategy. But when you start getting the visitors in numbers little worries will be on how to make them check the ads out.

Finding the lucrative niche is the main problem in the blogging world. Most of the niches are already taken and if you start the blog in heavily saturated niche, you make never outsmart these established blogs. Yes, if we manage to get good traffic, there will be ad clicks or product purchases; however, the main problem is ad blocker. These days, many people have ad blockers. When there is ad blocker, ads will not be displayed, when ads are not displayed, there will be no ad impression. No ad impression means no money.

Nowadays is very much harder to monetize a blog, however is not impossible in my opinion. You have to provide something unique in order to get many visitors to your blog. Adsense is a great step, if you had a good experience with it!

I feel it is possible to earn a living off blogging as long as your in the right niches. It all depends on the content as well as the traffic coming to your blog and how often you blog for. I have started to see much better results lately on my blogs. I do wish you all the success mate try add your blog on postloop.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I have often pondered into using post exchange features. However, I don't know how lucrative this option is. I am on postloop as a writer. I post on number of forums and blogs, however, I never check the ads, products and services offered by these forums and blogs. I am concerned only with doing my quota of posting. I don't whether I am helping these blogs or forums or not. This would also happen to be if I add my blog on postloop.

I was on Forum Coin. This is not a good earning site, however, you can do a low-cost promotion, and the best thing is you don't have to spend money, you can earn credits for your activities and you can use those credits to promote your work. The site offers you a booter backlink for about 40 cents.

The problem is you're getting into the market when it's already over-saturated with people who blog. You can find a blog on almost any topic imaginable, so it's up to you to develop a unique topic, or have a take on something that hasn't been done before. The content of your blog is what will continue to bring people back, so it's important that whatever you're doing, you're doing something fresh.

I agree with you. For example, if my blog is on mental health niche, I should publish articles sharing my own experience. First hand experiences are always trusted. However, the main problem in this, there are many people who think like you. When I created a travel blog, I decided to blog on traveling to the himalayas. However, later I discovered there are already hundreds of blogs on this niche.

Yeah but more than adding your own experiences you can research on the topic and add your very own conclusions on the matter. Like me for example, I have spirituality blog. It's easy for my niche but it might not be so much for other niches.

I don't see blogging as making a living as very viable, however, there are still ways you can make money with your blog. I am thinking of converting one of my blogs to an Ebook and using that for revenue. This is just one of the things that you can do as far as I am concerned.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

As a person who has already published couple of ebooks, I don't see the market of ebooks. If you are a first time author, it is really hard to convince people to buy your ebooks. Many have already pointed out that the timing is not right. Blogging alone might not bring enough now-a-days. Modern blogging is more service-oriented. Many bloggers provide services like courses, training modules, and consultation along with affiliate marketing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Agreed. If you can have multiple earning options on your blogs, you can make money. For example apart from having adsense and amazon product ads, you can also sell your services or products. However, if you don't have anything to sell, you will have to completely rely on ads and affiliate products. If you want to sell services or your own products, you will have to thing about something new.

It was possible before but it seems after the adblockers the earning capacity of many bloggers have gone down. And with time they are going to move to other money making resources. Adblocker is one of the major problems in earning from blogging. Many people install ad blocker on their browser. When there is an ad blocker there will be no ad impression, hence no earnings. Another problem is with mobile traffic. These days many people use internet on the mobile devices and mobile browsers have inbuilt ad blockers.

Another issue is that people also seem to be buying less from affiliate links. So that does cut most of the revenue sources. And this is one more reason i personally find the blogging to be less helpful. But people should make use of the resources whenever possible. I think blogging can be used as a way to promote the content. I think influence is something that can be one way to leverage blogging.

Apart from writing online, I also write for print. I spent couple of hours writing an article, submit to a publication. Upon acceptance, I get paid instantly. Every month I am able to publish 3-4 articles on newspapers. However, when I have to publish online I have to spend few hours for researching, one hour for writing and another hour for optimizing. Yes, I have to wait for months to see the traffic. I get rejections on newspapers, however, I earn more from print articles than from my blog posts. Online writing demand a lot of patience. We have to wait for our articles to generate traffic and money. However, the main question is how long to wait?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think it's about more on patience and your diligence on spreading the word about your own blog. Although your skill as a writer is topnotch, gathering crowd and audience is another skill so you'll have to work on that skill too. Results won't come right away so you will have to bear with it and keep on working. Your hardwork will then pay off, if you don't stop finding ways.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Couldn't say it better. It's not always about the writing skill, sometimes we just have to do a leap of faith, either by investing in traffic sources or content. Being a skillful writer is a big step and you should maintain your grip if your gut feeling says you can do a great job online.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

At least someone else understands too! If you want to actually go far with getting audience, the key is you don't just leave your blog there and wait for people to come, but you have to make actual effort to ensure that people will at least view your blog. It's not that bad to post links of your blog posts to social media to promote your blog, since it's actually required if you want traffic that bad to earn money.
The thing here is that you are gonna be hoping most of the time that people will actually do click your links and there are countless factors that affects that. It's even better if the social media that you are sharing it on previews your blog post.

I agree with you. You write well does not mean you will earn well. In order to earn from blogging, we need to be a good writer, however, this skill is not enough to make money. We also need to be an SEO expert and a good marketer.

If your blog is a very good one with a lot of visitors, then yes I do believe you can. But it's huge hit and miss, just like being a Youtuber. True, blogging may be easy enough for a lot of people to get into, but it's hard enough to let a lot of quality bloggers go unnoticed. In our country, there is a popular saying, "if you can talk, you can sell bad items, if you cannot talk you cannot sell good items."
The saying emphasizes on the power of marketing. If you publish blogs, you can't wait for something to happen. You will have to market your blog, try to bring a huge traffic and earn money by converting your traffic to sales of ad clicks. It is easier say than to be done. Even though there are lots of free marketing channels, marketing may at a time not bring the desired results. patience is the key, however, how long to wait for traffic to come and traffic to convert.

As a new blogger and content provider, this is quite an unsettling forum to read. I don't want to give up yet, though, and I have a poetry blog and personal blog which get a lot of traffic everyday. However, how do I solicit people to click on my ads so that I generate revenue? It seems over the top to just outright ask, even though I have 5000 friends on facebook and am a published author/poet...

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Don't give up. I started writing online in 2010 and received my first payment only in 2012. If I had given up, I would never be here. Currently, I make my living by writing online.
In my experience and observation, poetry and personal blog have less chances of earning because of contextual advertising. Ads are based on the keywords you use, a poetry or a personal essay is really difficult to optimize. Since you don't have specific keywords, random ads will appear such as "join facebook" "download now" "wallpapers." Now who is going to click these ads. You have chances of earning through affiliate product sale. You can earn by selling amazon books.

It can lead to a lot of frustration if you start blogging today and assume that your blog will earn enough money to support your lifestyle within a few months or year. Blogging is something that will require a lot of passion, dedication, and sacrifice. It's something that you need to squeeze some precious hours on when you know you could be doing something else that can give you sure money. While it has potentials to be an income-generating site, it will help if we think of a blog as something that will showcase our expertise and knowledge in a specific niche or our strengths as a blogger or possibly a web developer. Now, that can translate to money in another way. A blog, therefore, is a type of investment or a tuition fee for learning the ropes.

I agree with you blogging is not a make money fast scheme. Blogging requires a lot of patience and commitment. Actually every start up blogger must first put the idea of profit making at the back of his or her mind. What should be the priority is the blog content, success plan and how to get the bushfires and keep them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It is true that blogging is not "get rich" kind of scheme. You should seriously consider about blogging only if you have patience. I seen people blogging just for pure fun. Traffic or earning do not matter to them. If 10 people visit their blog and 5 leave comments, they will be happy. However, if you consider blogging as a job, then you should also think about money. However, money is hard to come.

The answer to these kinds of questions is almost always yes - the real question is "how difficult is it to do so?" In my opinion, I think it would be rather tough to do so. While some people can earn a living by blogging and writing online, it's definitely going to end up being a very small minority. But as long as you enjoy doing it, if you can find any way to make even a little bit of money out of it then that makes it beneficial as a supplemental income as well as a source of recreation!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Most of the people who write online believe that it is possible to make good money through blogging, however, what they don't know it the difficulty associated with making money through blogging. You can of course earn some money, however, earning a living through blogging is actually very hard. The market is competitive. Every niche is already taken. Furthermore, people have become so smart that they have ad blocker installed in their browsers. Therefore, there will be no ad impression. Even if they are not using ad blockers, they don't click ads and they are not buying affiliate products.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JackDan
It all depends on your niche because the more influential your content is the more visitors you will get from your blogs. Being successful on the blogging platform is definitely not an easy task and we all know there are a lot of competitions these days. You need to work on your niche definitely and also building up trust with your readers online.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
Every niche you can think about is already taken. All topics you can imagine have been covered online extensively. Unless you cater to a small segment of people, you will find the market very competitive. Travel is heavily saturated. Traveling to India is also saturated, however, if you focus on a niche, for instance traveling to South India, you have chances of surviving. However, if you break down the niche and focus on a topic that has been covered less, traffic is very low. If you target keywords that get less than 500 hits in a month, you will earn nothing. On the other hand if you focus on keywords that gets more than 5K hits, you will have difficulty in ranking high.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

MariaC
Well, I don't believe in saying a niche is saturated. When you see people trooping to it, that indicates it is working. You have to work hard and be creative.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Laibrown
Yes when people troop into it that shows that niche is selling I agree with you. But it also shows the competition in that area will be high too. The right thing is not to stay away in that aspect of course not. But more effort have to be put so as to promote your blog, and also there's need to stand out of the competition.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
Sometimes it is really hard to survive the competition. If you have to work hard, why don't you work on something that had a chance of becoming successful instead of something that does not have a good chance of being successful. You need to find a niche, that has less competition, yet is also high demand amongst internet searchers. You also need to drill down your niche. For instance, trave is a broader topic, you need to focus on the niches like trekking, mountaineering etc.

Blogging is one of the trends nowadays. I believe blogging is worth it way to earn money. If you're talented writers and have a unique perception on any things this portion is for you. I myself is a blogger and I can say that I earn good cash on it. I can help my parents and at the same time pay my monthly bills. It's just you need to find the right person or website that can appreciate your work. Someone that values your talent and don't let yourself down just because of a small amount of money.

If you pay your monthly bills and also help your parents from the money you make from blogging, you are already making a living from blogging. This is not happening for many people.
The first requirement is knowledge. You need to know everything about running a website, writing and publishing contents, search engine optimization, social media marketing etc.
Second requirement is you need to have some spare money to manage the running cost
You also need to be patient and dedicated. Blogging does not pay the very next day.

Blog monetization is very common in these days. I have a blog since I was a teenager, because writing and sharin thoughts and experience is something I'm passionate about. I feel that all this tendence of making money from blogging, people are doing it for the wrong reasons. Most of bloggers that make it for a living are all very similar, like there was a pattern.

There is a new way of blogging where a lot of people are making hundreds or even thousands per month. You do still need to build up a following but if you already have a big following you could end up making thousands per month right off the bat. One guy that already had a big following on youtube did a blog post on this new site and made $15K his first day. If you do a post every single day that also helps get a following even faster. If you want I can make a video on it and post it on this thread. It's not the usual blogging platform though you have to be willing to learn something that is new to most people but it's not hard at all to learn.

I am interesting to know too, please share with us your video explaining to us how work this way you are talking about and how to build up a following. You said that it's not the usual blogging platform, maybe it's another way right? We are looking forward to hear from you soon.
Thank you in advance.

I will work on a video for it soon, but I will put the video links into a ebook to sell here on seoclerks. I can see that there is a very huge demand for this from looking at all the responses on this thread. And I can see that no one on this thread also even has a clue on the type of blogging that I am talking about. It is a new concept that I am not seeing anyone on here know about yet.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well, you want to sell your idea, i thought it's for free because you are the who offer the idea here. Anyway good luck to you.

Think about what you just said. You want me to give away a method to make a lot of money and yet you see from this thread there is a huge demand for it. So think about how stupid that would be. How many people on clickbank, warrior special offers, or jvzoo do you see just giving away money making programs? In fact for that matter how many people do you see on seoclerks just giving away money making systems or software? Why do you think we are all on this site in the first place??

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

In the begining i thought that it's just a simple method what you offer, if it will work or not. But you say that your method will make a lot of money, and maybe you don't need to sell it if you really earn a good income with it ( just an opinion that's all ). I don't have any problem if you want to sell your method, just let us know when it will be available, i want to give it a try.

I am not making a lot of money from it yet. I recently started on it. But like I said earlier if you already have a big following then you can make a lot of money from it fairly quick. If not then you need to also build a following on it. But there is a lot of people making $50 - $100 per post that they do. Some have made well over $1K from there post. The more of a following you have the more you will make but you can still build up a following as well. But either way I have never seen any blogging platform make as much as this is making. And like I said before seeing so many people on this thread wanting to how then yes I am going to sell it and not miss out on it. I am only going to sell it for $5 so it will be affordable for everyone.

okay that sounds good, we are waiting your method.

Blogging and vlogging are entirely differet. When you blog, you are using writting words to deliever the messagem, and when your are vlogging, you are using video to deliever the message. On the internet world, people like to view or watch more than read. That's why videos have more audience than the written word.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The method I am talking about you can do both write or post videos. So yea I know the difference between writing and vlogging. I have been into internet marketing for well over 10 years now. I have had bot failures and success so I know exactly what I am talking about.

The main idea of this thread to explore whether we can earn money from blogging or not. We are not talking about making money from the internet in general, but making money through blogging, by writing and publishing articles on your blog/website.
I earn good amount as an online writer, however, I am not earning good enough from my blogs.

You can earn a lot from blogging, but, you should have something that is worth,,for example something that no one else but you have it..so, you should put effort in your blog if you want it to become successful and start earning huge amounts of money.

Well I suppose like anything. Someone has to make it happen for you with search traffic. I mean after the foundation is put in the links created and reasonable well serps established the traffic to your website well..... from my experience.... is next to impossible naturally let alone any quick fix's. I think a blog that would get 1000 views a day to be a livable website. Perhaps in Singapore or mainline china at least. Not sure about USA or Canada but maybe it would become similar to a welfare adendum or monthly bonus per say.

I have never for a moment thought that blogging and writing would be an earning hub. For me it is a great pass time keeping my brain active, learning and sharing information. What I earn is a bonus for me and that jingle in my account makes me happy.

I think that people who has a blog for over years now and currently are making money out of it started just like you... doing it only as a hobbie and because they were passionate about writing. And that's great! But now people are trying to become a blogger WITH the goal of making money out of it and I don't think that's honest. People should only do it if they really like it!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I don't think you can... I mean not just by blogging. I think you need to complement it with some other freelance activities otherwise is going to be hard. Also I don't think one can depend on a single "job", especially in this field. You need to keep your options varied just in caso something goes wrong. I'll say maybe if you don't have to support a family and you are alone but to make an entire living I don't think it's possible.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I would say it might be possible, but it will take some time to achieve such goal. Making a good blog, keeping it updated, become a popular one, until you finally get a profit of it, that takes a lot of investment, and i mean time and effort. Obviously there are people who are even famous trough blogging, but it took quite some time to be there. I would recommend you to work on your blog with patience and effort, but also have a second option or additional income, until you finally see your baby blog grow up and give results.

Oh come on you guys you make it sound like it can't be done and being someone that was well on there way to success back in 2003-2004 know that this isn't just back in the day..... Its possible again to make money consistently blogging with companies like amazon and adsense compliment each other. Let me put my hat in the ring and say its possible.

Not only is it possible but I already wrote a guide showing how lots of people are making hundreds per day doing it. It is different then traditional blogging and in most ways even easier but you have to be willing to learn a little bit on how it works. But maybe that is the problem so many people are afraid to learn something new.

How do a new blog would bring such a huge traffic unless it has trigger via a niche content or a topic that is hot on discussion.I think it is an art of writing that makes huge difference from tons of content available online.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

You are a great writer does not mean you will earn tons of money from blogging. In order to earn from your blogs, you also need to know everything about SEO, SMO, SEM, SMM etc. If you optimize your blog and blog posts for search engines and social media, if you market your blog in search engines and social media, you have better chances of bringing traffic.

I have come to realise that we can actually make a living through blogging. This can be achieve by getting serious with your work. The same energy we apply in a regular job should be duplicated with blogging and see us making tons of dollars.

we can make a living out of nothing, what we need is consistency and passion for the work.

A lot of people dislike me because I am a realist and I crush hopes and dreams by being 100% honest. And I will be honest you have a better chance of going outside and getting stuck buy lightning on a sunny day then you do by earning a living off of a website.

Having said that I am not saying that it can't be done, but there is a 99.99% chance that you're going to fail. Because all of the big markets are already taken by major blogs that have huge budgets. But that's not saying that you can't earn some side money, just don't expect that if you put up a blog you're going to be making a living off of it.

You're right too for being realist. The reason being earning through bloging requires a lot of traffic and your name out there. Because if you are not known then you can forget the affiliate sales too. Another thing is that you have to consider daily wage concept. By that concept surviving in US and Canada is lot harder. You can survive in Africa at the most with 12 to 50$ a day or even month. Even asia is getting expensive. And so blogging and earning on that is not going to sustain many people much.

When I say earning a living from blogging, I mean earning the amount that is actually required to pay bills and buy supplies in your home country. In Asia and Africa, cost of living is low compared to Europe and America. In Nepal, I just need around $700 in a month to pay bills and supplies.
Yes, the market is already glutted with all sorts of topics and niches. If you search online, you can see every topics and niche are already taken. There is no point in being 1 of 1. You should be blogging on the topic that gets search hits, however, the market is so competitive that you cannot outrank your competitors.

I know some very successful bloggers. My friend has a blog about cooking and she earns a decent amount each month. I have a blog too but I do not really earn that much from there. I have advertised my blog but still could get much visitors. This is the most difficult thing about blogging. The reason why I can't earn that much is because I can't devote much time to my blog. I think if your content is of high quality and you use the correct marketing strategies then you will definitely succeed.

I believe we can earn a decent amount of money through blogging. However, my question was whether we can actually earn a living from blogging. In other words, can we earn full time income from blogging? I earn my living from writing, however, most of my money comes from writing to the clients. I also have blogs, however, I am not been able to earn good revenue. having high quality content and using correct marketing strategies can help, but will it help you to earn a living?

I have experienced co-blogging work where I was paid good money. That was the kind of work that I like and it is one of my alternatives when I retire from my job in the office. Having my own blog and working on it as if it is my career can give me good earnings that can be my livelihood. I had interviewed some popular bloggers and they admitted that money is easy if you have thousands of regular readers of your blogs. That means you can continue building your audience by uploading fresh contents that have substance and relevant to your niche.

Posting articles on someone's site or publishing articles on article sites is different from blogging on your self hosted site. You might earn upfront if you post on someone's site or earn revenue from your articles on article publishing sites. However, it is really difficult to make money from your self hosted blog. I have been paid between $2 to $50 for an article, however, I hardly earn $10 a month from 200 blog posts I have published on my half a dozen blogs.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

you can use adsense on your self hosted blog/website or google's products like youtube and blogger. You cannot use adsense here. However, if you have adsense account, you can use your code to earn from third party sites where they allow google adsense. For instance, you can use adsense on hubpages and daily two cents.

Nowadays it's very hard to earn from the traditional methods like affiliate marketing and third party link sites. It's time consuming and takes away the fun in blogging. The best thing to do is to grow your authority. This would later on open doors for big bucks and gigs.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
Growing your authority is the best way to earn traffic and generate revenue. However, it is not an easy job. I have a travel site where I publish articles on traveling to Nepal. Since I am based in Nepal, it can be assumed that I can become an authority on this niche. However, so many people are already publishing on this niche and it is difficult to rank high. Every topic you can think of has already been taken. Therefore, best way to establish your authority is to focus on niche instead of broader topics. For example, instead of writing general articles about traveling to Nepal, I could focus on trekking in Nepal. This might leave rooms to build an authority.
