Are favicons important?

A lot of sites have some creative and well-designed favicons but are they really important and do users take favicons into consideration when they first visit a website? Favicons are easy to setup on your site but the issue is that there is very little space to put much content on it. Usually, you have to have an image logo or an abbreviation of your website name. Because of this, favicons tend to be boring and quickly made by webmasters who just want to get it over and done with. But do you guys spend a lot of time designing a favicon?

I don't think it's very relevant. I don't think it's a problem when the favicon is "boring" - logo, abbreviation or name is a good enough choice. It only matters that it looks neat, I don't think it needs to be special.

I don't think they are any important. I have seen some of the favicon less websites. And there are not much bad in terms of conversion. In fact some of those sites are easy for earning. Favicon is luxuty feature and not something which is important. Many brands make use of the favicons for building their image. And that's how they make use of the logo.

Yeah, not really considered "necessary" but it is a nice thing to have. A well-done favicon goes a long way since it shows that you are a professional in this field.

It's not a requirement but it has an appeal if you have a nice-looking one.

Looks don't earn money unfortunately. You have to do things that make people buy service or click ads. And that's not something happen with favicon. So you can see that it's not really thaat easy for many to make use of the favicons for business. Branding is something that is good to see. I give you that.

Favicons are important part of the website for a couple of obvious reasons. When visitors come to your website and see a snazzy favicon get the feeling that the website is more complete and in the back of their mind they are building confidence in your site. It is always important to always try and customer build confidence by leaving nothing unfinished. This will make a visitor feel like the site is more authentic and complete. The second thing for favicons is SEO. I would take advantage of the use of alt text, keyword naming for the favicon picture to help or add to the on site optimization. Every little bit helps even the little things like a favicon. You can easily create a favicon with the help of some sites that can change your logo into favicon or you can hire a graphic designer for a couple of dollars. If you are thinking that favicon's do not play any important role in seo than i would state again that every thing you do on your website is important even the small less obvious tweeks that a webmaster can do. Building customer confidence, customer satisfaction, branding of your website or company all play an important role when promoting your website. This is my take on favicons and I hope it helps. I wish you best of success.

Favicon is important in case of website design. Like if you use a favicon on a website- than people will get idea about your website or business or services by that logo. For any necessary if the visitor come again than they will search your website by the logo even the visitor has been forgot the website address.

Favicons are definitely important. At least in my mind. You might ask why but it's rather simple. You can quite easily establish a level of trust and credibility by using simple favicons. It makes you look much more professional and therefore more trustworthy. And I think that we can all agree that this is important for any visitor or customer. Also, through favicons, you can raise your brand's awareness since people always remember images more than the actual text.

I agree. Not having a favicon won't break you. But! If you are building your brand and growing your reputation, then favicons, icons, logos, etc. are all “identification symbols” that get associated with you or your product or service. You might as well incorporate creating a favicon into to your online reputation and brand management strategy.

I think they can be important to show that your site is professional looking. It is one of the many things that you can use to make your site stand out and look professional. I think that some people might just want to do do business with someone or a site that has a professional look and feel to it.

Hi there,
Thanks for your query. There has some confusion about using favicon is it good or bad or very importance. To simply I want to say it is really good for any website. Nothing bad things there. As SEO concern, people may think Favicon very much need for search engine factor. Some also thinking so. This purpose I should say favicon only need for showing your branding. Yes, if you want to compete to your top competitor, you must to want full fill of your website. Is not it? If everything okay but your site do not contain any favicon, that will show incomplete site as like 5 store made without color.

So, I agree to use favicon to site to show my branding. It is tiny but important to attract visitors as completed website.

Favicon is very important to any website that wanted to brand itself. The design of it should be different from your other webpages . As a user, it's easy to remember which site is it by just looking at the favicon if I open many tabs. The favicon makes it easy to distinguish between different sites. So it's advisable for your site to have Favicon.

I believe having a Favicon is as important as having a Name for your website. Having a Favicon is good for branding and it aids easy identification for anyone who visits your webpage. It has a way of registering in the memory of a user who engages your site..
For instance, when you see the 'f" favicon anywhere, most times you just think of Facebook.

Web designers say it gives a site beauty, class and it perfects the whole site appearance. Even developers of major web browsers encourage the use of Favicons.

Favicons are a nice touch, but I don't think they are important. A bad favicon can definitely hurt peoples' opinion of your site though, so if you're going to do a favicon, do it well.

I do not think the favicons are very important, but anyway I think they put a tone of professionalism on the sites.

I even use favicons on all my sites, even though it is not very important.

My understanding of favicon is that it is an icon designed to enhance the URL. But to say that it is important, I don’t think so because with or without favicon, the URL remains the same and people will not click on the web address just because it has a favicon as prefix. Anyway, for purposes of design, I guess the favicon is getting to be a “in thing” and maybe in the near future most URL will have a favicon.
