  • They said AMP is doomed to fail as another bad choice for Google in terms of projects. But Google AMP is growing into a success for the past year going from a few single digit percentage as a source of traffic to bigger more important percentages, in webistes, I personally implemented AMP it reached about 20 to 30 percent of the total traffic. Most viral stories over the internet use AMP nowaday.

  • Last modified meta tags such as meta http=”last-modified” content=”date” are useless for Google. If you didn't know, last modified meta tags don't mean much to Google so don't bother implementing them:

  • Facebook will track user's location (the ones who allow that) to figure out what physical store they visited in the best to flood them with retargeting ads. In my opinion, this is a huge step into invading people's privacy, but maybe this is just me, I rarely allow any app to track my location.

  • Google Maps Update. New Question and Answer feature. This is quite an interesting and useful update. If you have a company listed in Google Maps you can now add a list of FAQ for users to use and read but more importantly, the users themselves can add questions and receive answers.
  • Having canonical implemented on some pages but also having noindex? Some SEOs implement both canonicals and noindex tags to prevent canonical pages from getting index. But think about it, with the canonical you are telling Google to treat that page exactly as the source page, so in essence, you might also noindex the canonical source, this is exactly what John Mueller from Google said. So in my opinion, don't use noindex if you used canonical, Google is smart enough and will figure out that variations of that page should not get indexed.

Info about Google AMP says it is intended as a competitor to Facebook's Instant Articles. I tried writing articles on Facebook. It wasn't my cup of tea.

Heard the news about Facebook being able to track buyers. Incredible! People complain so much that the browsers create ad blockers because they don't want their privacy violated. But it's OK to physically track you from a brick and mortar store.

Like you, I see no point to using the canonical URL and then de-indexing it. (O.o)

Only problem with AMP is that it seems to be reducing the revenue of the websites. And that's bad. Considering we are already losing the revenue with the adblocker. And to top it off you can see that AMP is doing the same.Adding it's own ads and making it harder for people to make money. I think that's a bad thing and Google AMP team needs to work on the monetization part.

I guess the popularity of AMP is a continuing trend. Although some will not admit but the mobile browser is now the dominant factor in the internet over the computer browsers. Most of the website owners that I know are now focused on the responsiveness of their website. That is because they say that a website that doesn’t cater to mobile browser is doomed in terms of getting traffic. Of course, an accelerated display of the web page in mobile browser is preferred.
