    Do you have a portfolio? If so how is it working out for you?

    Back in the early 2000's I believed in the if you build it they will come mentality and I made a attempt at a portfolio and in the end it was a ton of work to maintain. It was 5 different websites that was making around $15 a month. And when I say a lot of work I was putting around 50~60hrs a week into 5 different websites. So that equaled out to $0.25 per hour for all my efforts.

    I ended up shutting down all the websites because I was overwhelmed. And my new approach is just to focus on a single website and grow it to the best of my abilities and go from there. How about you? Do you have a portfolio? If so how is it working out for you?

    As a videographer and photography, it's incredibly important for me to have a portfolio. Being that I deal is such a visual medium, my clients naturally want to see what kind of product I'm able to create before they decide if I'm the right one for the job or not. Overall, my portfolio has worked very well for me. While I was in the full swing of freelancing, I was booking people very regularly. It wouldn't be odd for me to have something booked every weekend of a month sometimes.

    I still keep my portfolio up to date in case I want to send in a bid for a freelance job. Better safe than sorry, and I've got the resources to have one, so I might as well maintain it!

    I have yet to add portfolio on my site. I have added the image slider where the people can check the work. But that's all I can add as of now. But there are plenty of things I have not yet added. So considering that part I'd say I have to focus on the content too. I have to add real testimonials part along with the project part. This way I can surely manage the portfolio page on my website. I personally think that it would work out for me.

    I don't have a portfolio because I have never really thought of designing websites or graphic for other people. I never thought that I could do well by selling websites or graphics for other people. It's not exactly the work that I was looking for. But if you are a website designer or a graphic designer then portfolio's are extremely helpful. They give an idea to your potential clients about what they should expect and helps people decide whether or not to purchase your services.

    Being that I operate in a very visual medium (i.e. photography and video), it's very easy for me to build a portfolio. In fact, it's actually essential that I have a portfolio of work to show clients before they decide if they're going to hire me or not.

    Being that a lot of online freelance jobs are for writers, I've wondered quite a bit how you could build a portfolio if you're a writer instead. Do you primarily do writing online? And if so, how do you market yourself to clients?

    I don't know if you can call it portfolio but I do save all of my work onto my spare USB external SSD. That way I can always check the things that I've previously done or written about and also send my clients great samples of my work. I could probably build it into a proper portfolio to promote myself and my services but I think that it would take a while and I'm lazy Do you have a portfolio? If so how is it working out for you? you did give me a good idea though.

    Generally speaking, if you're a writer almost every client asks for a sample article anyway. So, I have a few set to the side to quickly send them.

    Well, you need to have a portfolio as part of your professional development. And The main point of the portfolio is to show your work. It’s easy to talk about what you can do, but in a multimedia industry (that’s mostly
    visual) it’s important to show what you can do.
    Ideally, you can show real projects, but as we know that’s not always possible. In those cases, you either have to create dummy versions of
    the courses or build your own modules. I prefer the “build your own”
    route. This way you can build demos that are more interesting than the
    typical type courses you may be forced to build at work.

    I think it depends on what kind of website you have and what services you offer. It is always good to be able to show your work if you are a designer or even a writer of some sort, but I think it is not always necessary to display that work. Being able to point to some of the work you have done in the past is important, but taking huge amounts of time to compose a portfolio may not be cost effective in the long run.

    Yes! - It helps when your next employer types your name on Google, and the result shows a professional person who is socially active and uses his skills such as entrepreneurship to make money. Shows them that you can add value to any place you go to.

    - It does not help if they Google your name and all they can see are awkward pictures of you getting drunk.

    I am just a freelancer for paid forum posting that I don’t think I need a portfolio for now. But maybe when I embark on providing SEO service then I would definitely need a portfolio so that my prospective clients will get to know my skills and my capability in the kind of work that I am offering them. In the office we have the business card and I know that the portfolio is the counterpart of business card in the internet.
