Facebook and Twitter are battling spam and removing fake profiles

All over the world, there are fake accounts, profiles, and everything else you can think of when it comes to social media platforms.  Because of this, Facebook and Twitter are fighting back and removing hundreds of millions of profiles that aren't legitimate.  If you had various profiles on these platforms, you likely had them removed or they're on the platforms radar, so you could be losing them sooner rather than later.

Facebook alone deleted 583,000,000 million fake accounts and over 865,000,000 million posts, which is an insane amount of content if you think about it.  Now, Facebook has over 2.2 billion daily visitors who are using the platform like they should be so that 583 million seems like a lot of accounts to just vanish, but they were usually fake account or people posting extremely vulgar or gruesome content who shouldn't be seen on the platform in the first place.

Cleaning up the junk profiles
Like I mentioned above, the majority of the profiles that were deleted from the bigger social platforms were just junk or fake.  This means the community on your favorite social media platform is actually a better place to be since there isn't a lot of garbage content filling up your news feed, which is what people want to experience.

No one wants to see awful content, posts that are disrespectful, and generally content that isn't suitable for anyone in the world to see.

Removing repeat offenders
People who have been reported and then put in Facebook jail for a week or longer are starting to see their accounts getting locked.  These people tend to post something that is more rated R and not PG, so it will get reported by the people who are "friends" with the poster, then Facebook will take action against the person.

If you've been in Facebook jail a few times, you're likely on the radar of most social media platforms, so you should be careful what you post if you want to be safe and keep your account active.

They want their platforms to be more friendly
When you go on a social media platform, you would never think that they want it to be user-friendly, but they actually do because there is a vast variety of people there.  It's true that you can't please everyone, but you can do your best job if you keep everything PG, which means you need to police the platform just like Facebook and Twitter are doing currently.

They never know who is viewing what, because a child can get on an adults profile by accident and see anything within their news feed, which means if the platform wasn't being policed a child could see some pretty vulgar stuff.

Doing this could potentially reduce fraud
By removing a ton of fake profiles and almost a billion fake posts, Facebook is likely reducing fraud around the world from people who don't want to be tracked.  I've seen countless posts from people offering something for sale, but when you check their open profiles it just shows a few pictures and almost nothing else, and the account was made in the last few weeks.

Spam accounts are all over the place, not just Facebook, and that is why most platforms fight fraud by deleting fake profiles.

In conclusion
If you're posting to your own profile, not posting vulgar content, and not trying to mislead people then you should be just fine on any platform you frequently visit.  Now, if you're setting up countless profiles that you spam to, you're likely going to lose all of them and possibly your main account because it's usually not difficult to link them together.  Now, if you're using proxies and building accounts that way, you will last a little longer but eventually, you will screw up and everything will get deleted.  So, play it safe and use social media platforms for advertising but don't spam or make fake profiles to do it.  Run your business as legitimate as possible, as well as your personal profile, and you should be just fine Facebook and Twitter are battling spam and removing fake profiles

Huh... Obviously thay have to do that, since likes, shares, retweets become viral fever... I also read few days ago that Twitter was fighting against "Tweetdecking" which was taking big chunk out of their advertising income, where people joined large groups over TweetDeck with real and fake accounts, to reach large number of retweets and likes. But many also used this trick to cash out on selling this services, or access to such groups...

Well, keep it real, for as long it's possible Facebook and Twitter are battling spam and removing fake profiles

Yeah, these big platforms are essentially trying to clean everything up so the people registered on them aren't running into a bunch of different profiles and getting annoyed. One of the main reasons MySpace tanked, not only because Facebook destroyed them, was because of all the fake stuff that was allowed to be created. They essentially have hundreds of millions of users, and probably 25% or 35% of them were fake profiles for trolling or scamming other members.

If you have a website, and you're allowing fake profiles to run rampant, your platform will be overtaken with garbage that just spams links all over the place, and no one wants to see that lol Facebook and Twitter are battling spam and removing fake profiles

It looks like this is a long protracted war because from what I understand with people who are using fake profiles are also the ones employing the bots for the fake number of likes and followers in Facebook and Twitter. If the malpractice of creating fake profile and fake numbers of likes and followers will not be suppressed then the social media will lose its credibility sooner or later. Facebook is doing the painstaking job of clean up.

I'm glad these two social media giants are cleaning house. But it has been my experience that the fake accounts never really bothered me. I wasn't being stalked or harassed. To their credit, whenever I did file a report on a suspicious account or activity, both Facebook and Twitter responded immediately and handled it!

What I am really hoping for is for them to STOP those folks who hack somebody's account and pretend to be them. I hate it when I get a post or a message from somebody I KNOW saying something that I KNOW THEY WOULD NOT SAY!! It is so irritating! I'm like: "Dear FAKER: Who are you trying to fool? Get a life!"

Personally, not my favorite platforms. In fact, don't use them regularly, but I tend to keep them for business related issues. However, believe me I would love to get rid of those, specially Facebook, because it became a very annoying social media. There are a lot of annoying adds, and people transformed it into their personal therapist. So, actually I wouldn't complain if they don't want my profile anymore haha.

It is worse in Facebook and that is the reason we should all be very careful of ways that we do things in life. Understanding that not all the flashy profiles are real is going to help us stay safe from those that are using it to hack the accounts of others.

Some of my friends has gotten their accounts hacked and it was never easy for them to start from the beginning again.

This is certainly a great move from Facebook and Twitter as they are doing all they could to ensure that their platform are safe from the hands of fake profiles and those used to scam people. I have seen lots of profiles that have the names and pictures of popular persons while they are the people on those pictures. Those profiles are now been used to scam innocent people which is not nice.

Actually it is a must for them to find ways to get rid of fake accounts. Social media's has great benifits for us users, but oftentimes there are people who uses it for bullying, harrasment, fake news, spams. It is is actually a must for these two social media's to ensure the security of their users. There are millions of fake accounts that had been deleted, but opening facebook you can still see many fake accounts spreading on it. I hope they will find a way to really get rid of those specially they are using it to harrass or to mislead people from genuine informations.

Social media has made that young ones, that aren't mature enough, feel social pressure everywhere anytime, be bullied, exposed them to social predators, and turn them into these wannabe famous guys. Honestly, social media is for people with enough common sense, not for kids. Even fully grown ups feel social pressure about them, imagine the kids, and all those "cool" profiles are just fake images, they don't post their real problems and issues. As I said, I just use social media for business, but not to expose my personal life, that only leads to problems.

I agree, even us feels the social pressure in social medias. Better use it for business instead of posting most of your personal life. Actually hackers, bullies, and criminals will use them against you. Like posting where you are and your family are at the moment, you are giving them the freedom to get into you and your family. Thieves will have the information of whether or not they are safe to steal something from your home.
While posting almost everything from your life will lead to bullies use them against you. Some are making fake accounts using your name and information, most likely to bully you or to just use your name for their own benefit.

I know right! I just don't get how people don't learn by watching experiences. Social media is one of the main sources thieves and criminals are based on, they grab all your personal schedule, relatives, phone numbers, emails, in a super easy way. I'm more than tired to see how people get kidnapped, asking their families for rescue money, and they keep posting their whole life online. Seriously, that's not having common sense at all.

This is a good policy for the social media giants in order to put some sense into the quality not only of the posts but also of the profiles. However, it is not easy to ban a profile because the only determining factor is the IP address aside from the usual email. Well, the email can easily be created so it is a given that it cannot be flagged or banned totally. With the IP address, it is also easy to use another IP especially when WIFI is all around us. Nevertheless, I am happy with such a development.

Wow! I am very much happy that Facebook and Twitter are taking away spammers from their site. Its really annoying or irritating to have spammers. They really need to remove spammers so that social media can be a better place to enjoy with.

It's hard to clean spam/fake accounts but they can minimize it and soon, there will be just a low percentage of spam accounts. Some also post some fake links and your computer might even get a virus. There are also some computers that are already infected that when you tried to login to your Facebook account, it will send a spam message to which contains a link and when other users will click on it, they will be infected too. I tried that before and I'm glad that I was not reported for being spamming. So beware and be careful when logging in to public computer shops. Don't click any suspicious links or you can also use incognito. To be safer, use your own laptop if you want to login using your social media accounts or will make bank transactions, etc.

Yes for me facebook is better than twitter because it has everything you need on facebook, and also I do not have a twitter account so I would choose facebook over twitter. Facebook is very entertaining and a stress reliever for me so facebook is the best.

Facebook and Twitter are becoming really strict. The Cambridge Analytica Scandal has really changed things on social media. Social media is supposed to be something you do for fun however, you know have to verify your identity yet this is a private global company that you are giving your private details to. Social media companies are starting to act like governments, they are even begging to censor free speech. This is a monster we must stop.

It's a good thing that they are cleaning accounts and deleting garbages. It is bad for other people but, it can be helpful too sometimes those fakes accounts are made ti bring people down.

Well, that is very true, fake accounts are not only a headache to the companies themselves but also to genuine consumers on these social platforms. People will create fake profiles befriend you for a while. be very active on their profiles by posting, answering to there posts every day and somewhere abruptly in the process start spamming you and sending you promotional messages regularly through the inbox on a plethora of very unrelated and insane topics and subjects.

The move was good, and I liked it so much. Those who had many fake followers on Twitter were hit hard. Unluckily, I can see fake profiles have started emerging again on Facebook. I hate the platform.

it is a good thing that they are now deleting fake accounts. but i think up to until now there is a lot of fake accounts exist. they should inspect more accounts to check if they are legit accounts.
