How many keywords is ideal for SEO?

Instead of focusing on one page per keyword, focus on one "idea" per page. The term "keyword" is misleading as a keyword is usually a phrase because rarely does a single word query result in a click-through unless the term is a brand. The best way to start is to "silo" your keywords into related columns within excel. If a term doesn't match the other words in a silo, it should be moved to its own. Then, instead of targeting one page per keyword, target one page per silo.

I recommend using your chosen keyword about 3 times for every 500 words of content you post on you website or you risk being penalized by the penguin update for over-optimizing the page. Remember its easier to go down the search engines than it is to go up

I think 2 or 3 keywords are the best way of getting indexed in higher rank. You can use Google webmaster tools to research the best keywords for your dearest websites then apply the others SEO work on it. Thanks.

Maximum words are better in my case. I recommend using your chosen keyword about 3 times for every 500 words of content you post on you website or you risk being penalized by the penguin update for over-optimizing the page. But if we want to maximize the keywords, you can provide more than 3 keywords.

I am not well versed with keywords yet that’s why I read the entire discussion when I come across one that is about keywords. In one discussion that I had read, keywords should be a percentage of the contents something like 5% so that it will not be too obvious that you are stuffing your contents with keywords. But for me, maybe just 3 keywords to appear on the content is good enough.
