Do older forums rank better in search engines?

More well established forums have the advantage of many thousands more posts than newer forums. But then again, some older forums are very inactive, even with all that content. Who has the advantage, a very new forum which is very active or an older forum (with many posts) that is not as active? Which one would rank better in search engines?

So long as new posts are being added daily to an older forum, it should rank better than a newer forum, considering most of the pages will already be indexed by Google.

In search engine ranking, domain age and site age matters. Therefore, old forums are likely to ranked higher than the new forums. However, age is not just a factor ther determines ranking. There are other factors as well, for instance, quality content, keywords, backlinks, social signals etc.

I guess the older forums can rank better in search engines provided the older and newer forums have the same contents. The content is the backbone of the website and I think that is the first and foremost factor for the search engines. So if the older website has new contents regularly against the newer website then it will get a better ranking but not because of its age but due to the contents.
