Do you allow bumping of old threads?

Sometimes this is called necroposting, where you bump a really old thread (usually older than a year). Is bumping of old threads allowed on your forum?

I'd rather a member post a new thread, rather than necroposting. Though some of my threads on forum have over 1000 views, so I don't mind if the forum member wants to respond to a well trafficked forum thread as that only increases traffic more.

I do not think that there is anything wrong with that as long as the poster has something useful to say.

I agree with blueeyes. If you are just bumping it to bump it without adding to the conversation then that is not good.

I think that if it is going to serve a purpose then that is fine. But if you are just bumping the thread just because, it is not wise to do so.

I am really wondering why some forums discourage the so called necroposting. For me, age doesn't matter in a good thread. As long as the topic is relevant to the theme and relevant to the times then I don't see any problem with that. Especially when the thread is a long one which means it has substance then why disallow a reply to that old thread? On the other hand, I understand the rationale for the new threads, they are indeed important because the forum will look old without the new threads.
