Once I was part of a really nice myBB based niche forum. And, the forum owner changed to SMF and then Xenforo. I loved the original forum so much, it was difficult to adjust to the change. Almost wish I'd found her forum after she converted to Xenforo not before as it's a really great software. But it was so different to use from Xenforo. It was like starting over. Did you ever find that your members had trouble adjusting to a new forum software after an upgrade?
If you're upgrading from a free to paid software, your users will have many more advantages. For instance, Xenforo is so much easier to use than many of the free software. I don't see a reason why you would want to switch forum software, except for an upgrade to a superior software. In that situation, the upgrade will only benefit your forum community.
