Dealing with a forum that has lost it's focus

Let's say your forum is running great, plenty of discussions daily. But maybe the focus of the forum niche has been lost or is rarely addressed. How would you get the forum back on track? Or, should you even try?

If you never get regular replies on your forum, you need to consider shutting it down and starting over or just scrapping the entire forum as it's not worth the time to restart.

I understand your concern about the cluttered forum that even if it has a lot of new contents on the boards, the niche is not the center of the discussions anymore. Weaning the users to the niche is not an easy task because you have to be careful that they might lose their momentum. One solution is to create threads that are directly related to the niche. Another action is to send a message to the most popular users who are posting on threads that stray. Of course, your message should be diplomatic.
