How to stop a former staff member from establishing a competing forum

Is there a way to stop a former staff member or admin from establishing and running a competing forum? This might not seem like a big deal, until they use their connections on your forum to steal your forum members and staff. What are your thoughts?

I do not think that there is a way to stop it. I mean how can you really stop it? If they want to make one, then they have every right to do so.

No there is not a way to stop it. I guess if it happens then you will just have to deal with it.

Try to address the situation head on by talking with current forum members and asking if they plan to stay on your forum. If they are leaving, you might try to find out what you would have to do to get them to stay.

But if they want to start their own forum, they will do it no matter what. I do not think that there is really any way to stop this at all.

Please allow me to tell this anecdote that is not directly related to the topic. My husband has a business partner who was his best friend in high school. When the business was flourishing, he didn’t know that his partner had established his own business that is a competitor. Slowly but surely, the clients of my husband’s business were being siphoned. That can also happen in a forum if a staff member would have his own forum that is a direct competitor. It would be easy for him to pull away some community members into his own forum. But in fairness to that staff, I guess it is okay if he will ask permission and inform the admin of his new forum. At least there is openness so it is up to the admin to boot him out or let him stay with some conditions, of course.
