    Who gets a signature link on your forum?

    Although I allow signature lines on my forum, I'm very watchful too. If someone shows up and makes one post and then leaves a signature link to a spammy site, then I'll likely take the signature line out. Really, I would prefer that signature lines be for members who come by at least once a week and are not using my forum for backlinking purposes. That's just my policy and I'm sure every forum owner is different in how they handle things on their forum. What's your policy for signature lines? For instance, how many lines allowed, how many characters or links? Do you allow links to be sold in signature lines?

    I would only let seasoned forum members have a signature line. Not just members who meet a minimum forum post count but those who have been on forum and contributed enough content to deserve a backlink. For instance, you might move a deserving member into a special category. But that would require extra effort on your part as admin, it would not automatically happen when a certain post count is reached. Then you could ensure that only those who are invested into the forum would get a backlink or signature line.

    When I have a forum I will let anyone that is a regular member of the site have one as long as it is not spammy. They must visit the forum on a regular basis as well.

    I might use this idea as it would defeat the purpose of signature link spamming which happens when people post constantly to hit a minimum post count. It can be bad for a forum to get link builders on forum as they tend to use lots of irrelevant or copied content just to get that backlink.
