How much time do you invest into your forum?

How much time will you invest into your forum to make it a success, either daily, monthly or yearly? And, do yo ever get paid back for the time invested?

I might invest a few hours daily into a forum, but it would have to be done after my real job as a forum that isn't earning much is not going to be worth the time investment.

About an hour a day, sometimes, not even that much. My site is mostly for advertising my services, so once I have checked new posts and messages and posted an answer or two to a customer question, I log out of the site.

It depends on the conversations, and what people are talking about. If it's something I personally find interesting, I will take part. I always take the time to welcome new members, then tweet their introduction.

I feel it's important to make your presence known, and to embark in conversation whenever possible. I don't want to be seen as a ghost, only appearing when there is a problem. If your regular activity is noticed, the chances of issues happening are decrease significantly.

At least that's how it is for me.

At least that's how it is for me.

A strong owner/admin presence is essential for the success of a forum. When the owner stops being involved the forum is likely to die, though this is usually more true if the owner is the main admin.

A forum owner should treat his forum like his baby or child that needs attention any time of the day. When you had created your forum, you should have the idea that you will have something to care for much more than a pet. There are times that a forum can be on its own but you cannot be too sure. If you don’t have much time for a forum then you need to hire a good staff to handle the operation. But still, you have to take a peek once in a while just to be assured that your forum is okay.

I don't own a forum but I'm a member of a lot of forums and I would spend about 2 hours a day on these forums. It's time well spent because I learn a lot from other members and sometimes opportunities arise and I'll earn a bit too.
