What's so bad about necroposting?

Sometimes, I find a discussion that is very old and hasn't been responded to in awhile, but I really like the content. So it's nice to be able to respond to a good discussion that might have been neglected. Some forums don't allow this and insist that you start a new discussion, which is never as good as the original one was.

Maybe the admins and owner would not want you to necropost as they need new discussions to be posted. So just post a new discussion about a similar topic as the old one, rather than taking time to respond to it. Don't you think that would work?

I don't think anyone ever said that necroposting is bad. And it will just depend on what forum you are on. Some forums don't mind if you post to an old topic. I would rather just resolve a topic that is older than three months and let all new posts go on a newer discussion.

I also wonder why some forum admins don't want an old thread to be activated by a post. For me, a post is a post especially if it has substance so I don't see anything wrong in reviving an old thread. Anyway, it is my wont to post on any topic that is interesting to me regardless of the thread's age. Unless it is disallowed, I will post on old topics when I have a good comment to share.
