Never had issues much with spam. As long as it deals with the subject I have talked about, I usually do not care much.

Spam is basically advertising and those ignite flame wars and trolling. I delete them as soon as I see them.
Quality comments are those that stay on topic.

Ads on a blog comments really bother me, especially the ones for drug products. I don't mind if someone leaves a link back to a recent blog post, as long as it's accompanied by a quality comment, but blatant ads and spam linking (within the comments) is inappropriate.

So far, I don't have a problem with spammers trying to advertise on my comment section. Then again, I also use very good spam prevention tools too. So that helps a lot.

Comments like "your blog article is cool blah blah blah" then add something at the end, like a site name and such, is an instant delete on my blog. Like you said, advertising that are accompanied with quality and on-topic response gets to stay. But I nevcer really get that type of comment/

You have to be tough as a blogger sometimes and delete comments as spammers are everywhere. At minimum, you could leave up a comment and just strip out the offensive link if needed. That would discourage the person from link spamming you next time. Taking the link robs them of the incentive to spam.

Those are obviously spam comments with the attached links and they deserve to be deleted. There are two things that bug me about blog comment spam; the ones where there is a keyword as the name and the ones where the person makes a pretty good comment but then leaves a spammy signature line under the comment. Why not just say leave their name@sitename in the name field if they feel the need to hyperlink the site? That's how it's done on a CommentLuv blog.

I allow interactive comments and not ones that are spamming on my blog. I allow all at the moment and try to talk to those spamming on my blog in a bid to correct what they do.

If the comment is related to the blog topic and it is at least one complete sentence, I will consider it as a quality comment. Generic comments like "thank you" "good" etc. are spam comments. Comments that are not related to the topic are also spam comments.

I believe for a comment to be seen as a quality is a comment that is fully related to the topic, has at least 3-4 sentences, has great spell check and is a bit grammatically correct and readable. Not comments that has nothing to do with the topic and just naughty comments about sex or drugs.
