Can I write about more than one subject on my blog?

I have a blog about recipes, could I still publish an occasional article about home care or gardening topics? Or, does everything on my blog have to be food related?

You can but you started your site strictly as a recipe blog, so i would recommend to keep it a recipe blog.

Its better to add content related to one topic.

A friend of mine started a similar blog about home cooking and recipes from meals she was preparing for her own family. And, over time, she has also shared many other types of home related articles including gardening and canning tips. You would want to create a special category for non-food related articles where you can organize everything not related to the main niche of the blog.

You know your website audience better than anyone. It's up to you to decide what's best for them.

Keep your reader in mind when choosing what your blog topics should be about. Will your site visitor be confused to find articles about home care on a recipes blog?

You might do well by including generic articles about cooking, baking and other kitchen related tips. Any gardening tips should somehow be related to cooking or recipes such as 'how to grow tomatoes for your own homemade stews', where you give tips for gardening tomatoes and follow up with your favorite tomato stew recipes.

Just stick to your main topic, don't stray too far into unrelated subjects like internet marketing which won't fit your cooking site niche at all. That will be confusing for anyone trying to read your blog, so stay to one path.

Check around to other related blogs and see what they have done for this specific situation. If it's alright for a big name food blog to have subjects not directly related to cooking, then I'm sure you will do fine with it too.

Yes you can as long as it is yours. Maybe you can start off with a general blog if you want to write about more than one subject.

It is your blog so you can do what you wish. If you like the idea of writing about more than one thing then do it!

I personally do not like blogs that jump all over the place. I would suggest picking one or two niches and going from there.

I would suggest only doing a few subjects. Sometimes when you have too many subjects, it just seems like the blog is all over the place.

I think it's possible for anyone to write more on the subjects. But people are focusing more on single topic. You can find that this way many people get good traffic. And it can also bring the comment. You can see that some of the time subject just makes the right way towards viral content. I have seen this happening in many contexts. You can't really get this done overnight though. Post one day at a time and see where this goes.

Its your blog, you can write and publish about what ever you want. However, the best way to attract regular visitors to your blog is by sticking to your niche. Your blog is a recipe blog, visitors will come to read about recipes, however, if they find articles about gaming, it will be a great turn off for them. It is always better to stick with your blog topic. Publishing on too many subjects will harm your blog. If you still want to write on random stuff, why don't you create a subdomain and publish blog posts on different topics on your subdomain.

Please take note of the SEO method that says contents should be relevant or directly related to the niche. Now, if the niche of your blog is recipe, that is related to cooking and food. But I don't think it is directly related to gardening although it will depend on the kind of writing that you do. When your garden has the vegetables that you can use for cooking then I guess gardening is relevant to the niche. With home care, I don't know how you are going to connect it to recipe. In that case, it is not advisable to include home care.
