What if you saw the same reader on your blog daily?

Let's say you saw the same reader on your blog daily, making comments on blog posts. Would you assume that person was really interested in your blog such as trying to be a regular part of your blog community? Or, would you think they were only interested in spamming links?

There's no way to know what a person's motive for reading your blog happens to be. If the person is constantly reading and leaving spam links (such as links inside the comments), then you know what they want, to get a backlink. However, if they are merely commenting with a good length response and then leaving a link in the website field, linking to their home page (without any type of keyword for a name), then it's just likely they want to be part of your blog. And, you should just feel flattered.

If the person is taking time to read my articles thoroughly enough to not only comment about what I've said, but to add a literate sounding analysis, then I know they are not just interested in spamming. Otherwise, why would they take such time and care to read the article fully if just for a backlink? That doesn't seem feasible.

Even so, I would keep my eyes open, just in case that person decided to start leaving bad links later on.

Sometimes, even spammers have patience and don't mind working to gain your trust, only later to violate that trust with a spam attack.

Depends on if the comments are high quality or not. If they are of high quality then they may be truly interested.

Exactly. If they have meaningful comments then they surely are not just reading to spam the site. Most spammers do not make sense.

If the comments are good and pertain to the post then I would be thrilled.

As you say, most spammers do not make sense if only because it's not a real person making the comment. Those spam comments are made by software which first spins a comment and then posts it with a spam backlink. That's why it makes no sense to you when you read it.

The person might like your style and want to hang around you more. No reason to suspect foul play unless they start spamming you with links. Give the reader a chance, she might surprise you.

Anyone is welcome to read my blog once a day or many times every day, just however they want. And, I'm lucky enough to have a niche that allows me to update several times a day, so it's not unusual to see the same readers on my site many times every day as new posts are being created.

I think it is safe to assume that the regular reader that you noticed should be considered a regular reader or perhaps a lover of your blog. It’s not good to have negative thoughts because you may be paranoid with the readers of your blogs. And let’s say you see that regular reader posting a spam, it’s not reason enough to block him. Send him a nice message to the effect that spamming is not allowed in your blog and that you would be happy if he continues with his usual ways of commenting.
