What do you think of broken links?

What is your view of broken links and pages on websites?

These pages annoy me and I wonder why the webmaster could not have taken better care of their website so as to prevent broken pages and links. If page is moved, simply update the links. That's not so hard is it?

You should have some type of automatic redirect set up that takes your visitors to another page, even a 404 page that offers links to additional content.

In a perfect world, a site would never have a broken link. However, there will come a day when you need to change the name of a page and then anyone who has bookmarked that page will go to a broken link.

To prevent this, you can do a 301 redirect.

Here's some info on how to do that.

Yes, 301 Redirect is best option to overcome Broken Links.

This is usually only done when you move to a new hosting company. However, it also works if you are permanently moving a page on your own site.

It could be two things. One, their site is too big, and they can't possibly check their links and two, they didn't install a link check on the site. Click a button, it checks it and lets the owner know to fix. I imagine they are not very website savvy.

Broken links send users to non-existing web pages. They are bad for your site's usability, reputation and SEO. If you find broken links in the future, take the time to replace or remove each one.

When a website owner deletes a page or post, or changes the URL of a page or post that has already been indexed by search engines, linked to in social media, or bookmarked by users, a broken link is left in its place — and broken links make the website owner look bad in more ways that one!

Broken links cause frustration and irritation — if clients and customers are trying to access information they bookmarked, a digital product they purchased, or an article that someone linked to on Twitter, and the links don’t work, their trust in you and your brand will diminish

I have come across some websites with broken links. There was a new forum that invited me and when I registered, I couldn’t find the web page that would allow me to upload my avatar. It was very basic to have a broken link. Perhaps the admin or the web designer did not spend time in testing the website’s design before releasing it to the internet. For me, it is a big shame for the designer to have a broken link.
