It is not easy to post a backlink to Gov and Edu sites although you can always try by submitting something that is informative regarding a particular topic. But my take on backlinks for the quality is to find a big forum or a popular blog that are getting thousands of traffic in a day. I know that you cannot just ask about the traffic but you can discern with the posts on the forum or the number of active members while the blog’s traffic can be reflected on the number of comments that a blog gets.

edu, gov and org domains are most effective domains for the backlinking purpose. If you can get backlinks from these sites, then your search engine ranking will improve. Even a dot com provides effective backlinking as long as the website has top position on search engines. Basically, the sites that have high quality contents and are ranked high on search engines will provide effective backlinking.

What about leaving your footprints by way of commenting on a very popular blog? It is the usual style of my writer friends. They search for a popular blogger and check the latest blog then comment on it after reading. The probability of getting traffic from the link in the signature is higher than the use of keywords. That also goes well with forums that are popular which have thousands of active members.
